Barack Obama Puts DaBaby, J. Cole, Summer Walker & More On His 2019 Playlist

Several Hip Hop and R&B artists grabbed the attention of Barack Obama for his annual end-of-the-year picks. The former president named Summer Walker, J. Cole, DaBaby and more when choosing his favorite books, movies and music of 2019.

“From hip-hop to country to The Boss, here are my songs of the year,” Obama tweeted on Monday (December 30). “If you’re looking for something to keep you company on a long drive or help you turn up a workout, I hope there’s a track or two in here that does the trick.”

Walker’s “Playing Games” leads the playlist with Beyonce’s “Mood 4 Eva” and Lizzo‘s chart-topping “Juice” among the other selections. J. Cole’s Grammy-nominated “Middle Child,” Lil Nas X’s remixed “Old Town Road” and Young Thug’s “The London” also make the cut.

Obama’s inclusion of “Suge” by DaBaby prompted a Twitter storm with both the track’s title and “Barack” trending on the social media platform. While it ranked as HipHopDX’s 2019 Song of the Year, Twitter users had fun grappling with the image of the former commander-in-chief getting down to the Baby On Baby slapper.

Along with promoting the likes of Mustard, Burna Boy and Wale, Obama compiled his music picks into a nearly two-hour Spotify playlist.

    1. Sellout piece of trash. Anything to remain relevant. Do you think a man that educated actually listens to a bunch of millenials whining monosyllabic sounds offbeat?

      1. Damn you jump online hating in record time. It’s music that man can listen to what he wants. He’s a success showing love to artist that makes music he likes. That’s not phone that’s what real looks like.

    2. Obama has always had bad taste in hiphop. I mean, he’s a big fan of Drake and Chance… And he’s a middle aged man lol. What kind of grown man listens to that junk?

      1. He doesnt. He just wants to be the cool dad who is hip to what the kids are listening to nowadays. Wish he would’ve cared more about running the country than being cool.

      1. Yeah man, hiphop used to mention Trump a lot as a idol to be like. I think he was buddies with a lot of rappers at different points. Hell, I’m old enough to remember when Jesse Jackson and AL Sharpton were hanging with Trump. That whole “fuck you” attitude is definitely big in hiphop music.

        1. Yall are lame AF. why do people keep saying this like its still the 90s or early 2000s. Trump isn’t a run of the mill corrupt businessman anymore….he’s literally the most corrupt president in the history of this country. If you were a logical person you’d see why it made sense rappers stopped f ing with Trumptheiid

    3. Damn, Obama likes a lot of shitty mainstream radio crap lol. Kinda weird considering his age… I’d like to think most black men in there lates 40s to 50s don’t really vibe with the new wave, and prefer the more classical hiphop. Even Jayz and such aren’t touching what they once did. I’m a young dude who feels like an old head lol

    4. So ‘Bombing Iraqi civils’ isn’t a hit anymore? What about ‘Destroying Venezuela’? That was on the charts too. Mofos also loved ‘How to make the well functioning Lybia a war zone’ and ‘Kill everybody in Afghanistan’. And he missed the biggest one ever, the ‘I made ISIS’? That was an anthem. Obema changed. Damn. I hope he can DP himself with his Nobel Piece (of shit) Prize.
