On Tuesday (October 23), inside the confines of Hollywood’s Recording Plant, Quality Control Music co-founder and Billboard’s 2018 R&B/Hip Hop Executive of the Year Pierre “Pee” Thomas stated the obvious when he pointed out Migos member Takeoff was “a man of few words.”
No one has ever accused the silent, “Bad & Boujee”-less MC of never having skills but without the features ubiquity of Quavo or gossip-rag-attracting relationship like Offset, the 24-year-old generally gets ignored in conversation.
Come November 2, the entire QC imprint is looking to give Kirshnik Khari Ball household name status with the release of his solo album debut, The Last Rocket, and HipHopDX is here to give out a non-spoiler preview.
Okay, one spoiler: Quavo and Offset are both featured.

A Rhythmic Win
With the process behind Migos’ recording albums somewhat of an enigma, the spotlight is shone on Takeoff’s ear for picking beats, which — for all hyperbolic purposes — borders on Rick Ross-levels. There are plenty of curb crackin’, 808-heavy hybrids that gel together with underlying astronomical sound effects that play into the album theme. Also, look for The Last Rocket to serve as a coming out beat party for DJ Durel, who manned the bulk of the boards for the project.
Experimentation
As long as the “Migos sound” isn’t broken, don’t expect any of factions of the group to try and fix things. However, The Last Rocket will surely gain attention for the midway album cut, “Infatuation,” which incorporates strobe light, 70s funk-spliced with a dash of Euro-trance. It will either be a triumphant or WTF moment for longtime listeners. Only time will tell.

Honesty
The “man of few words” dedicates plenty of bars to family, fame and anything that’s floating inside his head that will compensate for his (lack of) presence in his group’s interviews. Like Pee expressed to the onlooking Capital Records employees, promoting the album will be an uphill battle and collective effort but the music should speak for itself.
The Last Rocket drops on November 2. Follow Takeoff on Instagram @yrntakeoff in the meantime.
