From Chamillionaire To N.O.R.E., Michael Jordan’s Hip Hop Relationship Has Its Share Of Horror Stories

The Last Dance, the latest installment of the critically acclaimed ESPN documentary 30 for 30 series, chronicles Michael Jordan’s last season as a Chicago Bull. Originally slated for a summer release, the brass at ESPN wisely moved the release date up to April 19th due to the current NBA season being in limbo because of the global pandemic caused by the spread of COVID-19 and hardcore fans could not contain their excitement. The behind-the-scenes look at the last days of the Bulls dynasty is sure to raise some eyebrows of its portrayal of the arguable G.O.A.T..

Getting ahead of the narrative, Jordan recently said that the doc will make him look like a “horrible guy.” The same tenacity and drive for excellence that made him the ultimate competitor, are the same attributes that made him such a pretentious jerk at times, especially in regards to his relationship to Hip Hop culture.

When it comes to rap lyrics, no other professional athlete has been referenced more than Michael Jeffery Jordan. His company, the Jordan Brand, has partnered with several rappers over the years. But MJ’s relationship to Hip Hop as a whole has been a contentious one, to say the least. Although MC’s rock his sneaks, compare their greatness in rap music to his adroitness on the court, and admire his capitalistic prowess, the love hasn’t always been reciprocated. In fact, Jordan has reportedly been downright rude to a plethora of MCs who just wanted to show him how much he was appreciated and idolized.

In anticipation of The Last Dance, here’s a handful of Michael Jordan Hip Hop horror stories. Whether they’re true or not, we’ll let you decide.

Bow Wow Claims Jordan Trashed His Allen Iverson Sneakers

During a 2013 interview, Bow Wow talks about making one of the biggest mistakes of his young life when he rocked some of Allen Iverson’s kicks, the Reebok Answer 5’s, in Mr. Jordan’s house. Reminiscing on spending the night over MJ’s crib, Bow Wow told Desus and Mero, “Michael Jordan threw away my Allen Iverson sneakers when I stayed at his house, me and his son, Marcus Jordan … Every time my tour came through the Chi, I would just stay at their house. I remember Marcus was like, “Yo, I know how you are with A.I.”

Bow Wow added that Jordan woke him up and had some questions for him. According to Bow Wow, Jordan asked, ‘Whose is these? And who has Duke shorts on in my house?’

Jordan allegedly threw Bow Wow’s sneaks in the garbage and told Marcus to get him some Jumpmans.

Bow Wow learned the hard way that in Jordan’s crib: it’s Nike or nothing.

N.O.R.E. Swears He Heard Jordan Diss The Culture — & Redman

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NG2JXO2qsA

Before N.O.R.E became the co-host of one of the most popular Hip Hop podcasts, Drink Champs, he was a multi-platinum MC. Because of his stature, N.O.R.E. was rubbing elbows with the “who’s who” of the entertainment industry, including partying with Michael Jordan in 1999. But the party take a left turn when the Lefrak rapper allegedly heard his Airness say some foul things about rap music.

Being interviewed by another renowned Hip Hop podcast, Rap Radar, N.O.R.E. exclaimed his run-in with MJ. “I seen him shut Redman down at a Def Jam Christmas party. We were all sitting there waiting to speak to Michael Jordan. N*ggas said, “Yo, Redman and Method Man is here.” MJ said, “Fuck rap.” I seen the nigga say that — quote me! I believe it was Redman and Method Man, and I’m to the side, so I can directly hear his voice… That shit hurt me. Def Jam Christmas party, Mariah Carey hosting and shit like that. He only spoke to Hov, but he spoke to Hov. That’s without a doubt.”

N.O.R.E. also alleges that MJ refused to be in his “Oh No’ video as well. Naturally, Jordan’s camp denied saying anything derogatory towards any rappers but N.O.R.E. had some receipts. On his Twitter, he posted a pic of Jordan next to JAY-Z at the party where the alleged conversation transpired. N.O.R.E. added this caption to the photo, “Does this look like a happy moment?”

Chamillionaire Says Jordan Sonned Him Over A Photo

Chamillionaire’s hit “Ridin”  went all the way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006 but it must not have been Jordan’s jam. Probably the most infamous story of Jordan being a Hip Hop hater is his treatment of Chamillionaire at a celebrity event.

In a video, Chamillionaire attempts to give his side of the story about what allegedly went down between him and MJ. I was just like, man, this is just that one moment. I’m gonna ask Mike for a picture.” The rapper approached Jordan, who was sitting next to filmmaker Spike Lee and members of the Boston Celtics, including All-Star Paul Pierce. “They were just chilling and I said, ‘I don’t mean to be rude, but Mike, I just wanted to know if I could get a picture.” Although Chamillionaire was prepared if MJ declined but he wasn’t ready for his alleged response; “I ain’t taking pictures with no n*ggas!”

Stunned, Chamillionaire thought that Jordan didn’t hear him properly and explained that he recently copped one of his jerseys for $7,000. Jordan reportedly told Chamillionaire that if he spent $15,000 for one of his jerseys, then he would take a pic with him.

Pierce even tried jump in, but MJ allegedly said, “I don’t give a fuck, n*gga.” Chamillionaire was then given the indication by Spike Lee that that’s just how Jordan is. Damn.

Yung Joc Allegedly Got Disrespected By Jordan — Right After Chamillionaire

Yung Joc, who currently co-stars on Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta, also claims to have had an encounter with Air Jordan where he was allegedly disrespected. Interestingly enough, the alleged incident with Joc took place at the same party where Chamillionaire said he whiffed the foulness from his Airness.

Chamillionaire recalls leaving the party and running into Joc who was heated. When Chamillionaire asked him what was the issue, Joc reportedly said, “Yo, fuck Michael Jordan!” Apparently, Joc was had on some adidas on the red carpet and that’s a “no-no” when in the presence of MJ. It’s alleged that Jordan wasn’t feeling the gesture and Joc left the party feeling some kind of way.

Check out Chamillionaire’s description of the alleged incident in the pre-set video above.

The Last Dance airs on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET.

    1. If I had the chance to disrespect bow wow, nore, chamillionaire and yung joc in one lifetime I’m shooting my shot. I’m jealous of MJ right now.

    2. A grown man that doesn’t want to associate with clowns. I don’t blame him. I love hiphop. But rappers are like overgrown kids that didn’t get enough attention and never got over it. Mike’s not cut from that cloth.

    3. I worked at a casino for about 10 years. When I did blackjack a lot of the dealers worked big places like Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. Jordan was notorious for being rude and cheap. Said he never tipped. Also met a caddy once that said Jordan was a super cheap tipper on the course. Jennifer Lopez was also supposedly cheap with tips. Said when Affleck tipped she would pull some back. Sure he has done his share of charity work and all that but the stories I’ve heard aren’t flattering.

      1. I met a casino worker from Atlantic City that told me, j-lo took back a $500 tip Ben affleck once gave her. Smh

    4. Respect the “legacy” and all but this is why I stopped buying Jordans a long time ago. The guy is and has always been a psychotic asshole. Say what you want about LeBron James. Maybe he’s not the winner that Michael was. But he’s a greater human being without question. Dude has always used his platform to lift others up and never felt too threatened by the youth to mentor them. As great as Jordan is, lately the guy just always seems miserable and crabby. They had been trying to make this documentary for years and Mike didn’t give his blessing until LeBron won the chip in 2016 which just reeks of insecurity from the GOAT smh

        1. Ive seen LeBron give a pair of shoes to a girl who worked at an opponents arena because everytime he came to play there she wore an exclusive pair of his shoes. He remembered her. Ive seen LeBron give free education to not just kids, but to the parents of those kids as well ! I can go on and on with all the cool shit LeBron has done for other ppl and he hasn’t even retired yet. All MJ has done is overcharge for cheap shoes while also belittling and berating the ppl who support him most. Prove me wrong.

          1. “Belittling the people who support him most”…. By what metric do rappers support him more than any other segment of America? Is he obligated to respect them because they make songs about killing each other over his sneakers?

            1. The people who support him most are the fans. Whether they be black, white, or rappers. To you maybe being the greatest means you’re allowed to treat the people who support that claim, watch your games, and buy your merch like shit. Well I don’t buy into that. I think that shit is wack and I think the people aren’t able to see that are even more wack.

    5. And yet folks in the hood will continue to dole out exorbitant amounts of money to wear his shoes when they can barely afford rent.. and they wonder why they’re always broke….smh.

    6. Surprised that nobody has slap Mike, how all these guys let him get away with this stuff. Nobody checked him???
On that pic Jay just look like he reach his hand out to Mike and Mike said put your hand down ni–ga lol.

      1. Mike is 6’6 and wasn’t far removed from being the most elite athlete on the planet lol you think one of those frail dorks is gonna check him? He was dunking on fools like Mutumbo and Pat Ewing! What’s Chamillionaire gonna do? hahahahah

    7. I stopped listening to Chamillionaire after he told that story and said he still wears J’s I lost all respect for Cham.

    8. Grown ass men crying about Michael Jordan treating them bad because he didn’t want to be in a weak a$$ o no video and clowned them for wearing adidas and reboks and not wanting to take a picture with them like how does this make Jordan a horrible person

      1. Fuk mj! He ain’t do shit for us! Except Jeep selling them high ass sneakers. He did his thing in the nba but is a sellout to his race

        1. Michael has made plenty of donations to charities (Helping blacks all across the nation) and has organizations that look to help those who’re in need. Michael isn’t perfect but I’d be quicker to take his efforts over your average rapper, who doesn’t have anything more to offer than contribute to making music, that’s filled with negative stereotypes.

      2. No grown men crying just grown men telling storys on how fucked up mj is. Nothing more nothing less. If you think its cool on how mj treated human beings than you just as fucked as he is. Get a life & some therapy while you at

    9. I’m assuming he wanted to lace bow wow up with legit gear as opposed to the Duke and AI’s. Just looking out for a dumb narcissist…and why not? Shoot, I’d lace up the homies with my gear if I were an icon. I’d be like “f*<k those Timbs…now these Vans nucca? Aiyo, I got you…”

    10. Michael Jordan is dick! Still gonna watch the special, but fuck buying anything Jordan brand. Aye yo MJ, FUCK YOU NIGGA!!

    11. Michael Jordan is really trying to get in front of whatever is on the documentary about him.

    12. Moral of the story is stop dick ridin and treating these cats like they are special. He’s the greatest player ever and has some dope shoes. Leave it at that.

    13. OH NOES MJ DOESN’T LIKE THE HIP HOPS! Grow the fuck up you childish clowns. Rappers are the softest mf’s on the planet

    14. Man you guys sound like you believe the hype. Jordan does all kinds of shit for the black community. Do some true research before getting an opinion off of some bs tabloid or remark you hear on social media

    15. He shouldn’t have said phuck rap, but I don’t hold it against him if he doesn’t like hip Hop. Jordan never spoke on political issues, black culture or anything urban. Never. The closest I heard him talk of it is in this documentary when he mentioned growing up with racisms in NC. I repeat “mentioned”. That’s all it was. No specifics.

Now we hear this story about him as a rookie seeing his teammates with drugs and hookers in a hotel room and how he felt about it. Hip hop was transitioning into that. Gangster rap. So he probably associates rap with negativity.

    16. Jordan, was liked..Kobe, was loved..If, Jordan was to die tonight, he wouldn’t get the Reciprocation that Kobe got..Not..only that..Jordan. got investments in the prison system as well as Oprah

    17. That’s why I like players like David Robinson, Hakeem Olujawon, & Tim Duncan over assholes like Kobe & Michael Jordan any day of the week.

    18. Well Jordan is great the epitome of driven and winning.Yet his philanthropic givings is his business but he is a rotten human being. Telling little kids get the fuck out of his face demonizing his own people he’s great but he’ll never be a Muhammad Ali great or Kareem great or maybe he wasn’t striving for that acceptance. God bless him and carry on.

      1. rotten human being? the fuck are you talking about? demonizing his own people? because he’s not dancing around in everybody’s gangsta rap video acting like jail makes you a man? How’s the jail life now? All that money on commissary cure that corona?

        1. Shut the fuck up. MJ does nothing for his people. We all started somewhere and I’m sure if Jordan ask one of his idols for a pic and they denied him he would fell some type of way. Jordan ain’t shit!

    19. Why should MJ care about some stupid shit like broke ass tattle tale ex rap stars? These guys got big mouths and that’s it . None of these dudes are worth a cent. They don’t want to build the game. They’ll die before they give dudes like Ransom their just respect yet they want to cry about real hip hop and whatever because some company put a record of theirs out 25 years ago. If being a gangster and a crack dealer is so profitable, why don’t these guys just go back to the block?

    20. Black people MIchael Jordan does not owe you shit! Get it please… get the F out his face!!!! All serious! Respect someone space….

    21. MJ is NO Jim Brown, he’s NOT Muhammad Ali. Yes he’s an icon, yes he is the GOAT (Lebron is coming) but MJ was JUST a baller, that’s it. Because he captured our imagination on the court we wanted him to be more. He claims he doesnt want to take pictures with niggas well niggas are the ones buying his sneakers.. He’s just a baller. Hes not on my Jim Brown, Ali, Lebron list

    22. I know Jordan was a great player but thats doesn’t excuse you from being a decent human. Jordan doesn’t HAVE to be Ali or Jim Brown but he can at least take some time just to say hi, take a pic or something. He doesn’t have to be a asshole to people just asking for a pic or autograph. If he doesn’t wanna do it just respectfully decline. Don’t have to make people feel like shit

    23. This ain’t about rap music or any of that. It’s about being decent to your fans who made you what you are: a mega-wealthy 1 percenter who got to retire in your late 30s. Most of those fans just happen to be Black, yet MJ acts like he’s better than them and tries to set himself apart at every turn. Remember his “Republicans buy sneakers too” comment about that racist politician?

Nobody’s asking him to be Ali; just don’t pull the “I’m not Black; I’m OJ” crap. Dude has a serious chip on his shoulder and needs therapy or something. Just because you play golf doesn’t make you better than somebody who listens to rap and plays dominoes or craps on the block in their spare time. He’s bought into the idea that hard work and determination make you superior and are the salve to all problems, personal and otherwise. Props to him for his achievements but that doesn’t give you the right to look down on others. Dude needs a big dose of humility.
