JAY-Z Shares “Kill Jay Z” Footnotes Video Featuring Chris Rock, Van Jones & More

JAY-Z dropped plenty of gems on his new 4:44 album, but he’s got a few more to share with his fans. After previously releasing footnote videos for “The Story of O.J.” and the title track, the Roc Nation boss has dropped another one (that’s TIDAL-exclusive right now) for the LP’s opener, “Kill Jay Z.”

“It’s really about the ego,” Hov says in the video. “Killing off the ego so we can have this conversation in a place of vulnerability and honesty. JAY-Z the public persona couldn’t have this conversation. It’s really Shawn Carter speaking to JAY-Z. And he has to convince him to move aside.”

Just like the previous footnote releases, JAY enlists the help of some other celebs to examine the song’s subject matter. Chris Rock, Mahershala Ali, Van Jones, Trevor Noah, Anthony Anderson, Michael Che and Charlamagne Tha God share their thoughts on how ego affects people.

Watch the footnotes video above if you’re a TIDAL subscriber or check a preview below.

    1. Borrring…Doong too much to show your celebrity influence. Like paying and/or convincing other artists to big up / promote your album. Why would the young guns give him props when they e always wanted Ruth old heads and artists? Jays just using a page from wifey celeb prowess now. Stay woke people. 4:44 is wack. Listen to Michael Rapaports review.

    2. *JAY-Z dropped plenty of gems on his new”, quote one gem that hasn’t been dropped years before by another rapper.

    3. this infomercials are not working, all this fake propaganda created by yourself is not real, you are not interesting, your shit is boring and pretencious, and bringing satanism to the community is wrong

      1. So if Hov should go back to rapping about selling crack to his own people and bragging about his chain would that be more interesting to you. Some of ya’ll is clowns I swear. No wonder all these corn ball rappers taking over the game

    4. I dunno, I don’t hate Jay but it is kinda funny that Nas has been dropping intellectual bars for decades, along with dropping heat. But the moment Jay says something semi not ignorant people are saying he reinvented the wheel, kinda silly

      1. I agree Nas has intellectual bars, but it’s not like he makes a point to make them accessible to the general public like Jay does. He is a great rapper but in terms or artistic direction outside rap, he can’t keep up with Jay. 2) Jay Z is more pop culturally relevant than Nas is right now. Nas features on two DJ Khaled Albums saying his album his done. Jay drops a new, fresh album littered with dope beats and life lessons. There’s a reason people are listening. 3) Jay Z’s been spitting knowledge since Reasonable Doubt and he’s spitting straight wisdom here. ‘semi not ignorant’? That sounds like hate to me. It’s like those people who say ‘I’m not racist, but…’ 4) They’re both dope rappers. But until Nas releases a new classic I don’t think people will listen,
