HipHopDX Premiere: Hi-Tone has unveiled a new short film detailing his creative process and what’s it’s like being a Mexican-American rapper. Titled The Voice, the 10-minute documentary dives into his struggle to find his own “voice” in such an oversaturated market.

“I created it to give people knowledge on the uphill battle it’s been just being a Mexican American in the rap game,” the Covina, California artist said in a press statement. “Just because people continue to put me in a box based off ethnicity doesn’t mean I’m gonna stay in that box forever. One day the box will get opened up and people will appreciate what was in that box for so long.”

He added, “This is to show the world me and my people are equally talented as everybody else in this music industry. They just gotta listen with their ears and not their eyes.”

Hi-Tone has been brutally honest about his struggles with addiction and depression, which he detailed on one of his last projects, No Xanax Needed (NXN).Hi-Tone’s new album, Price Of Admission, drops on December 15.
