HipHopDX Premiere: Former professional motocross racer and electronic/Hip Hop producer Sixo has just released his third full-length album, The Odds of Free Will, via Connecticut-based indie label, Fake Four Inc. The record stars several indie rap heavy hitters, including Open Mike Eagle, Milo, Ceschi, Awol One, Myka 9 (Freestyle Fellowship) and Canadian artist Gregory Pepper.

One of the first singles, “Christmas Past” featuring longtime friend Ceschi, has been privy to a visual treatment courtesy of director Shane McLellan. Billed as a dedication to the “memory” of Ceschi’s beloved dog, Lonestar (also known as Loney), the dark video finds Ceschi dressed up as loose incarnation of Santa Claus and a plethora of strange, costumed characters.

“This video was quite a process,” Ceschi tells HipHopDX. “I wrote up the concept then ran it by Sixo and the New Haven director Shane. Sixo flew into town. Friends and family did the acting. Amber [girlfriend] broke candy glass over my head. My little nephew Orion acted in it. Gregory Pepper did the children’s book illustrations. We made an absolute mess for a couple of days and it was unforgettable. This video means so much to me. It even has a clip of our little dog in it who unfortunately passed away two weeks ago. It’s funny, sad and beautiful for me to have this type of document of an era of my life.

“‘Christmas Past’ is a song written during some difficult moments in my life,” he adds. “Relationship struggles, financial troubles and deep depression. The second half of the song is meant to be an ode to spring and positive return of love. It’s about not wanting to die young like those ‘kings’ and ‘princes’ we admired.”
