Produced by Mv Riot, Mark Steele‘s latest single “Wave” finds the Durham, North Carolina artist still riding the momentum of his sophomore album, Almost Time. Crafted on his birthday (December 5), it’s become an annual tradition to celebrate the life he lives with a song.
“December 5th has become a tradition,” Steele said in a press release. “It’s not only the day I was born, but because it’s so close to the year’s end, it’s always the perfect time to reflect. I just so happen to manage my reflections through song. Someone told me the other day, ‘You’re on a wave right now.’ I took it not in the sense of I’m the ‘biggest thing out,’ but more like I’m so focused in the mindset that I won’t let any obstacles or distractions get the best of me. See you in 2017.”
Steele, who is mentored by producer 9th Wonder, shared one of his most recent singles, “Ain’t Real,” at the end of October, which found him swapping verses with Hip Hop vet Rapper Big Pooh. Check out the lyric video for “Wave” above.
