HipHopDX Exclusive Premiere: NewDay is a triple threat, playing the roles of artist, producer, and director. Now, he chooses “My Religion” to introduce his new EP and musical direction. With the video’s powerful and thought provoking images directed and produced by the artist, NewDay takes listeners on a spiritual journey through the struggles every religion faces. He declares on the song, “My Religion, True Religion, New Religion.” His influences, led by Kanye West, Christopher Nolan, Steve Jobs, Pharrell, and Spike Lee, are evident in his sound and statements.
NewDay expresses, “I just want to touch people with my music. I also want to break down barriers with my three different passions knowing I can win one award at the Oscars for film and a Grammy for my music. Be Yourself, Be Free.”
Brooklyn’s Joell Ortiz rocks a verse showing his support and commitment to scouting and discovering new talent.
As NewDay accomplished and earned director, filmmaker, and producer credits, he also realized he had yet to fulfill his true passion in becoming an artist. When Joell finally learned of NewDay’s ultimate goal, they quickly began working together on new music. Shortly after the discovery, NewDay opened for Ortiz during a sold out show at “The Wick” in Brooklyn. NewDay’s impressive performance led Joell to sign him immediately.
