John Calhoun is pleased to announce the release of the video for “Written,” the first offering from the Michigan artist’s debut project, ♛989♛. Directed by Hunter Lyon, the visual was shot in Michigan’s Tri-City area, giving an unfiltered look at the environment that shaped the sounds of Calhoun’s forthcoming EP. Bold and charismatic, “Written” showcases his knack for imagery and vivid lyricism over production from Smoke A Sac.
Calhoun’s scope on the record is clear- make his hometown proud and help to shed light on an often overlooked piece of the Midwest’s hip-hop scene. “It’s important to me to share our point of view with the world,” Calhoun says. “An artist has never broken from the 989, so kids around here don’t grow up with the sense that this is possible. I want to change that.” Look for ♛989♛ towards the end of summer 2016.
