After kicking off the year with the surprise release of his eleventh studio LP, Music to Be Murdered By, Eminem is ending this universally shakey year the same way. Released as a deluxe version of the LP, Side B is a 16-track expansion that delivers familiar territory with some pops of Em at his sharpest.
As always, he remains incredibly self-aware — whether verbalizing common and obvious criticisms à la Eight Mile B-Rabbit vs. Papa Doc while flexing a 2020 rap flow on “Book Of Rhymes” or reiterating his Rap God title on the White Gold featured “Zeus.” The latter, aside from an ominous warning to Drake, Future and Migos that fans will one day turn on them, too, includes a rubber bullet shot at Snoop, who publicly snubbed the rapper on his personal greatest rappers of all-time list (“Snoop doggin’ me, man, dogg, you was like a God to me, nah, not really, I had “dog” backwards, but I’m starting to think, all these people takin’ shots at me.”)
But his patented method of repurposing perceived slights into rap-fuel seems a little weathered. As if … we’ve heard the story before?
In the song “Higher,” Em spits, “Every time I think I hit my ceiling, I go higher than I’ve ever fuckin’ been.” While musically that may have been a worthy argument in the past, he more so has reached a high altitude and mashed the cruise control button for the duration of the flight.
None of Marshall Mathers’ career runback is a new exciting territory by any stretch. The theme of murdering women on record (see the dry-running “Black Magic” for example), or the almost ironically titled “Tone Deaf,” which is a whole lot of his thematic shticks of late wrapped up in one track.
That doesn’t mean Side B isn’t without its charm; there are some shiny moments worthy of praise. One such moment being when D.A. Got That Dope and Guaranteed Millions lace “Killer” with a breezy West Coast bop that Em slides across with the poise of a gold-medal-winning figure skater.
A host of nostalgia dripping from “Discombobulated,” the Side B closer that sounds like Relapse era Em over a beat that could pass for a leftover from 50 Cent’s Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ sessions. He even references Fif’s iconic and long-running beef with Ja Rule — tossing a (featherweight) jab in the crooning MC’s direction (“Ja’ll actually spit a bar/That’s not from a Dr. Seuss book).
Then there is “Favorite Bitch” featuring Ty Dolla $ign — a contemporary spin on the concept first made famous by Common on his seminal single “I Used To Love H.E.R..”
Here, we hear the veteran spitter briefly contemplating the thought of letting go of his “bitch” (Hip Hop) while reminiscing on their long and sometimes strained relationship as the culture has evolved, adapted and moved on in some respects.
The album hits peaks with the timely “Gnat,” laden with coronavirus references, an MGK swipe and possibly the most current production on the tracklist and his collaboration with his mentor Dr. Dre, “Guns Blazing.” Seemingly a continuation of MTBMB‘s “In Too Deep,” Em describes in detail the fall out with an unknown woman named Michelle — sending pockets of Reddit sleuths into a frenzy.
While some of his punchlines may border on cringe-worthy dad jokes, and some of his concepts feel less than fresh rehashes of other things already made, he manages to keep hunger intact, even if slightly unfocused as a whole. But, Em has proven himself commercially cancel-proof, regardless of what detractors (journalistic or otherwise) may think of his output in recent years.
“They ain’t never gonna get rid of the fight in the dog,” a defiant Eminem raps on “Gnat,” perhaps best summarizing his current outlook on the game he helped transform so much. Side B is not Eminem at his absolute best, but it’s substantial in the larger context of Hip Hop — and sure to keep Stans satisfied. Unfortunately for those praying on his (musical) downfall, you’ll have to keep holding your breath.
Not as good as Side A, but more than we can ask for B-sides-wise. I think 3.5 is pretty accurate.
I give a solid 4. He’s self aware, doesn’t explore much new content but what is there to go over? I figure it’ll be 2 years plus before the next album. It’s good for what it is. Extra tracks, side B, part 2. Call it what you will.
I absolutely love this album Extention it’s a new tone for Eminem and it fits pretty well in that in-between spot of new and old school rap
great
Yo creo que es un gran álbum en el que sigue demostrando su habilidad lirical y su madurez para mi una obra maestra como toda su discografia
Eminem is the GOAT. Yall praise Mumble rap and lil baby but dog the greatest rapper alive. Top 5 DOA. without Em the culture wouldn’t of ever got as big as it is. The lack of respect is pathetic
U reachin’ hard with that without Em shit though…LMAO..fUkotta here kid
Hip hop was big before Em, but Em made it huge. He brought a whole new fanbase to the genre. A rising tide lifts all boats, and his tide was way, way, way, bigger than anyone had seen and it still hasn’t been matched. Drake is the closest in terms of popularity and that is also because he brought in a different kind of fan. Nobody said hip hop wouldn’t be big, but it wouldn’t be AS big, that’s not a reach. Without Allen Iverson it wouldn’t be as big either (the clothes, the association between basketball and hip hop grew because of him and his outward love for the culture). Without AI, maybe we don’t get these rap songs being the soundtrack to the Finals today. It all adds up, and Em is one of the biggest contributors to the advancement of hip hop popularity, so please be nice to “Thekid” because he didnt lie
Bringing a new fan base I can agree with….so lil uzi…lil nas x have all done the same by ur standards….u typed a whole bunch of nothing LMAO
There is a difference between bringing international attention and bringing in young teens’ attention. BIG difference, TheReal.
Technical abilities, word play, and overall rhythm of his flow is unmatched. It continues in side B
Always leverance of the Best quality Music ??
The king
Quit hating. Em is one of the best lyricist ever and that’s coming from somebody that would’ve never like that type of rap, but talent is undeniable……You didn’t have to like Michael Jackson yo know what he was…..A Great. Keep that shit up Em …….you’re a Beast bro.
This is a good solid album .. although he took snoop dogg comments to far.
Or not. Snoop needs to get checked
Word. Snoop is getting into weird territory aka Flavor Flav ten years ago. He’s promoting fast food delivery in Australia, Energy drinks in China… he’s on some serious C Grade reality television-star ‘say yes to anything’ bullshit. Dude needs to vanish for a while to rebuild some credibility
Snoop is entitled to say his opinion but not this way and not on the show of the dude that’s known to hate on everything Eminem does.
Hot Trash. Gold medal winner at the cringe Olympics. A corny writer at 40 is corny forever. 0/5
You obviously don’t understand lyricism or word play. Keep bumpin DaBaby or whatever trash you listen to.
Fuck off
Be nice
Bitch
Yeah let’s rap about cars and xan….. Nah man, you can fuck off with that shit. I don’t think you know what cringe actually means.
Every great rapper has weak or cringy bars. However, not every great rapper can pull off the next level rhymes like Em. That’s why he’s Rap God. You look at the lowest points and reduce him to that but ignore the vast majority of his lines which are generally great. His technical writing is better than ever and since the Chloraseptic remix (who else can write a verse like he had on that lol) he has been flowing so much better. You hating just to hate
A great sequel to mtbmb
3 words…Bars, Bars and more Bars! Tracks like Book of Rymes and Gnat. Show you Em still got it. All the tracks on this new album are fire.
Until these new rappers can stop talkin about b***es, money, cars, and drugs and actually flow like water, Em will continue to ? on them. You don’t have to like Em just respect the fact that his internal rhyme schemes, puns, and more are unparalleled.
Joseph
Ems new shit is on another level , I can’t believe people say he’s lost anything , he hasn’t . He’s lyrically so far above anyone else it’s not even a competition. And the reason he has to keep rapping about his haters is because they continue to keep hating on him .
Absolutely brilliant, Eminem has done it again. I’ll tell you what when music to be murdered by came out I thought that it was his best album in years. Now Side B has come out I can’t imagine even listening to side A. Back to the lecture at hand I just had to leave a review.
By far one of the technically best albums he’s released. You’ll be catching lines for years.
GOAT
He is and always will be the GOAT mad love to marshal
Rapidy rapping stays alive. Someone has to since K dot never drop.
Perfect Christmas gift
Who ever reviewed this CD is a ducking moron……he’s such a lyrical genius that no one will never touch…EVER again in our life time so learn music you incompetent reviewer
FUCKING*
The fact you referenced this shit as a CD tells the world everything we need to know GRANDPA hahahaha ?
Yea delete my comment cause it says the truth about your ignorance in reviewing good music
TWENTY SIMILIES WITHIN “GNAT” that demonstrate why Eminem is a pop star and not a lyricist:
“My name rings out like a sponge mop”
“Bars are like COVID” “Like trying to fight off a gnat”
“This s— is like child’s play” “It’s like K9s in a brawl”
“Got stripes like a tiger” “It’s like pneumonia symptoms”
“This s— lookin’ like a horror scene”
“Back the f— up like 10 yards”
“Like me metaphorically” (They’re not metaphors you dumb—, they’re similes)
“Like they just keep getting more extreme”
“Like Monroe, Norma Jean”
“Mom fed me valium like air”
“I got a contact like eyewear”
“You drop the ball like time square”
“I’m like the G.O.A.T”
“Got her at the pole like voting”
“Nose in the air like a Boeing”
“I be soppin’ like a hundred miles an hour”
“Like you took a bite off that”
If any other rapper put that many LIKE words in their song, it would be career suicide. It’s retarded. It’s literally TWENTY TIMES in this song that he does this. It’s like a college student starting every sentence with “the.” It’s lazy. It’s unoriginal. It’s also completely retarded, I can’t even explain how retarded it is. And if he was a real lyricist, he would sit down, read that s—, and be like, “OH… they are right. This sucks. That’s what the problem is. I’ve got 1,000 instances of the word “like” on my album. All I’m doing is comparing one thing to some other random thing and it’s nonsensical.
Real lyricists listen to criticism and revise. Fake lyricists do what Trump does: They keep on Trumping until everyone can’t stand the sound of them.
You hate so much that you comment the same shit on everyone else’s comment. You’re sad. Mention the “godliness cleanliness” scheme, mention the black thought tariq 6-8 line scheme, mention other shit. In the same song you criticize for similes he has the “mike pence will get killed” line which becomes “mic pens (or pencil) get killed” because his raps are ill and violent. You ignore that, you hear what you want and shit on it because you have no life. *Trump voice* Sad!
Thank you, Lol.
Joe… we’re at 9 now. I’m worried about you. Do you need someone to vent to, it sounds like you have a serious hardon for this one that you can’t let go of. That’s not healthy. Maybe you should talk about that.
Side b is just as strong as the whole album! GNAT is RIDICULOUS! THE BEAT IS LIT!
5 outta 5 more bars than alcatraz. Reviewers are people who review everything but have mastered learning about ANYTHING. Of course your entirely due to your opinion. However when your opinion is based on the fact that your ears are missing every other bar you should just chill. Listen to elevator music and review burger joints or something.
“Check out my ball hair, make sure it’s all there.”
*20 forty year old white uncles s— themselves at once and call everyone they know to let them understand they’ve finally found someone they relate to*
*Entire rest of the world throws up all at once and calls a doctor for this guy*
To Joe,
8…. bordering on obsession now, Joe. Instead of shitting on him with the same lines, tell us who is better. Tell us the lines that are wittier, please be more enlightening.
I said it before, I’ll say it again. Em continues to dominate in terms of technical rhyming and ability to string sentences together. Excellent cadence, flow and storytelling.Where he falls short every single time is content, unfortunately. Take some notes from nas and black thought. A solid offering though, imo better than side A. 4/5
“Check out my ball hair, make sure it’s all there”
*20 white men who’ve never heard a real rap song faint all at once*
7 for Joe, guys! Still on the ball hair too. Man, you must be a fascinating human being in real life.
Eminem is so talented in relation to the genre. Hes an incredible vocal talent. A well defined character with incredible skill, who works his ass off to entertain the audience. Eminem doesnt get enough credit for creating entertaining music. Even at his worst, hes entertaining. The flows, the inflections, the theatricial sounds and high drama. Hes incredible til this day. Live a little life, go thru hard things, experience the pain of life. Then consider the things you love to do. This man is driven. Keeps going, and hes working hard. Huge respect. I think eminem is fully capable of delivering work that is among his best. He has so many styles and so many things he can do now… just depends what you want. Hes trying to give ppl everything. He should do it all for him. I like that hes producing more of his own stuff again. Eminem makes great eminem beats. Mtmb side a and side b will be considered seminal work when em ultimately goes… appreciate this man while hes still going. Hes a transcendent talent. Book of rhymes is a piece of art in it of itself. Props to em. Great album.
Every black rapper on this album – AND Skylar Gray – rapped circles around him on this album.
This album was so bad that I’d be afraid to listen to it around anyone. Like it was a curiosity I listened to, but it was embarrassingly bad. But I’m sure you got a few dollars for typing that out. Only Interscope could pay for a review like that. Anyone else reviewing it is embarrassed for the guy. This was the DUMBEST album I’ve ever heard.
Poor white boys: “I love Eminem. he’s not like other rappers. He NEVER talks about himself.”
*Eminem makes three albums doing nothing but bragging and talking about himself and his money and how he’s better than everyone else*
Poor White Boys: Yeah, but when he brags, he uses 10,000 similes for every 6 bars. AND ruins every chorus. Not many rappers can do that.
*Literally every single rapper could do that but doesn’t because they’re not stupid*
To Joe
6 Joe… 6. Starting to worry about you. You seem to be taking this to heart.
Still the BEST!@ ABSOLUTE FIRE!! ALWAYS ORIGINAL!!
Pockets and word play. Dude had a scheme of multisyllabic rhymes and metaphors with dinosaur.
Essence of hiphop in an album.
“Check my ball hair (What?), make sure it’s all there (Yeah)”
You’re right. The world couldn’t live without this kind of lyricism. Thank GOD he was able to get that message out.
This album was s— like a toilet. There, I can use similes, too!
Your insistence to bash the same couple of lines repeatedly over so many comments shows how little you actually listened to this album. You shouldn’t bother, anyway, 98% of his bars are sure to go right over your little head.
You are obsessed with this line. You didnt listen to anything else. You fail to recognize his checking his ball hair is also a reference to him getting ready to rap his ass off (notorious for grabbing his crotch with one hand). So he isnt just saying that shit out of nowhere, but why would you get it? It isn’t even a tough analogy to understand but your brain has been warped from all that hate and other bullshit you listen to. It’s all good. Merry Christmas, may God help you find peace in your heart.
To Joe,
We’re at 5 now. Ball hair is still in play, got anything else in your bag of tricks, or are we tapped out there?
Zeus……… enough said.
YEEEEEEES!!!!!!!
You’re right. Of all the things a hip-hop artist could have addressed this year from the world, it’s telling that Eminem chose to:
1. Let us know how long his ball hair is
2. Let us know he didn’t appreciate a rapper better than him not putting him in his top 10
3. Took the time to put verses over the perfectly good chorus of Zeus and ruin the entire song
4. Continue to live in a white boy bubble and diss rappers 10 times better than him
5. Realize he was a 1999-2002 flash in the pan that capitalized on Dre’s fame and fit the “suit”
This entire album is an affront to hip-hop. But I am glad that he took the time to do a side B where every single black rapper raps circles around his circus act and still doesn’t get any recognition for it
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go clip my ball hair and write a song about it. I’m sure it’ll be #50 on Spotify.
Man you’ve had that much time to click on this and then write a whole paragraph about it? It’s simple, if you don’t like him, don’t listen and don’t click! It’s ridiculous how much garbage rap albums with zero content that comes out everyday but people leave all that and decide to pick on Eminem… Go get a life man…
You keep repeating yourself. Time to try a different tactic now, “Joe”.
Yes, I am now looking for every single time you have commented on this article. We’re at 4 now… can he go for more?!!! I’m starting to enjoy this game.
Meant towards JOE. Sorry, David!
The bars are starting to border on corny and cringeworthy.Em will always be regarded as one of the best to ever do it but Father Time catches everyone. He’s capable of some dope songs but the filler far outweighs the good music we expect from him. When you hear the dad joke punchlines and he’s dead serious about them you know there is something wrong. The Alfred theme joint alone made me cringe a bunch of times.
This album was so bad that if anyone else in the industry had put it out, it would have instantly killed their career. I’m embarrassed for the dude and beginning to think that he may have had a ghostwriter early career (maybe Proof?).
Ahaha okay Joe. Keep making things up, it’s obvious you’re a hater and didn’t even listen to the whole album (maybe none of it, even). Your ghost-writer comment is laughable and really shows how stupid you are.
That statement is borderline retarded, especially considering his writing has improved over time. The songs have been up and down, but the verses/bars are at an all time high.
Again, your opinion here is unnecessary. You didn’t like it, that’s fine. You should put your time and energy into supporting the artists and the work they put out that you do enjoy. There really seems to be no need for you to be on this website at all.
My last comment was directed at the pseudonym “Joe”, not “Em one of the nicest but his LP’s dragging now..”
Alfred’s Theme also had some of the best bars and schemes of the album. The whole “filthy, clean up the act, godliness next to cleanliness impossible to be beside myself” thing alone shows he is still above the rest.
Great music on this album, has everything that we love in hip hop.
You’re right. 10,000 similes and a serious discussion about how long the rapper’s ball hair is is EXACTLY what has been missing from “hip-hop” for so long.
Please don’t insult the genre by calling this Cat in the Hat joke of an album “hip-hop.” This is so bad it’s pretty much novelty comedy right now. And it’s not funny because it’s funny. It’s funny cause it’s not.
Again, simply don’t listen to it. Listen to what you enjoy. Your negativity here is unnecessary.
10/10
It’s such an great compliment to the original album. Super flows and returns to his accents. Love it
A great combination of vintage Em and current rap production/styles. Feels like he is enjoying the craft musically. He is doing it all for fun at this point, and still creating entertainment for fans in the process. This album has a much more cohesive sound than Eminem’s other attempts at mashing battlerap lyrics with semi-pop hooks (Recovery/Rev.
Awesome album
His best album since TES
Book of rhymes – genius
3.5 ur ass bitch.
Its 5/5
In my opinion Eminem is still the absolute best when it comes to word play. This album is no different. His rhyming skills are just utterly impeccable. On top of his rhyming skills, there aren’t many that can match his downright ability of delivery. I see so many people who have so many negative critiques for Eminem. But it’s a reason that no other rapper on this planet come close to Marshall’s stats all across the board. Name another rapper who can drop a surprise album with no promotion or radio play and still go number 1. I’ll wait!!!
I mean all the haters say enough and hope to catch up it’s lonely at that top
This album was so bad that no one even finished it to criticize it. A 50 year old dude talking about how long his ball hair is is not what I would call groundbreaking lyricism. Dr. Seuss could rhyme anything with anything, too, but it didn’t make him a good rapper. I’m shocked even 70,000 people bought this garbage.
Why are you here then? Just don’t listen and move on.
The b side was great overall and plenty of tracks with replay value. Side A is still the highlight of the year for me though. Dr. Dre featured track was disappointing to me as it’s their first in so many years so I was hoping they had a better beat/concept in the vault. That Key (skit) was completely unnecessary.
Smh.. Are you clout chasing? Want Em to mention you on his next album? Smh so sad. Go do a report on Lil Pump…
Great project. Much love to Em
An insanely good side B that could even be a different album as it has everything, I’ve been jaming mostly guns blazing and favourite bitch all day love the production.
Nice album
This is the @brokencalculator comment section…like, it doesn’t count.
Another terrible review, nothin new
The more Eminem raps the more he sounds like he is his own competition. I have this album a 5 out of 5, since it charted in 30 countries at number one, plus Eminem is way too bigger than hip hop music, he is global artist.
Eminem………welcome back I guess
The best to ever do it. NO CAP
Great body of work??? Aren’t we having an issue with gun violence and murder??? Yet you speak nor help any community let along the rap community and the first thing you drop is about murder. Fuck outta here ? thats the problem. Old men wanna be hip and sale records and not care about the consumers. Fuck outta here ?
Wow are we still blaming Eminem violence in America? Is this the year 2000? Totally brain dead.
Go eat a taco Michelle D and as Em said, ‘Shut the F*** up!’
Music is entertainment and fictional you dumb fuck,if you actually listened to this album and basically any album he’s put out he brings a lot of awareness Toruń violence and the unlawful killing of black people,he’s got his own charity foundation that donates millions of dollars to underprivileged kids in Detroit, donates millions to make-a-wish foundation and donated 2 million dollars to the Manchester bombing cause,as for him not caring about his consumers he has helped millions of people with his music and helped them find the strength to pick themselves up so shut your misinformed bitch ass up
3.5 is about right, I would say like 3.8 or 7.5/10. I love Em but he has such a huge fanbase to satisfy and that has probably limited his ability to put out another classic album. He makes songs for people who like bars, others who want the psycho shit, others to motivate, others for those who want pop. I prefer to listen to him bar out for minutes on end (a la Alfred’s Theme, Premonition, going back to Rabbit Run and beyond) and his rapping is still amazing (corny line here and there but overall it’s masterful). His songs are not what they were, I almost feel he should avoid having hooks in his songs altogether (the Zeus one is ill though), but there’s a solid 8 track EP to be made for me from these new ones. He’s still a legend
Epic album,
Rap god well bless you…..
An overall great album, I felt like no songs here were bad or skip worthy, and I love to see Eminem like this. He has adapted, changing a few aspects to fit into modern rap while STILL being Eminem. I love to see it, and I love this album.
Feminem is really petty for takin’ shots at Snoop. Snoop was payin’ homage to legends like Rakim, Kane and KRS. Feminem does not belong in that list, he is not a pioneer, he only profited…
Racist
You’re an idiot
U r insane em is a pioneer …theres no great better than him, I would only give that to pac if anyone else, snoop is just disgruntled, when are people going to realize not everyone is into gangster rap, some of us just love rap, and em is the goat, em took rap global to a level like never before, honesty rakim kane cnt compare to em , they were just there first, lol snoop is an entertaining rapper not a great rapper, lol even mgk is better than him, I dont get what people cant accept that a white rapper is the best, I dont even like this new album that much but u cant deny EMS talent on it, lol Americans need to understand that rap is global, n we dont give a f about your gangster shit, we want music we can relate to universally and we dont wana knw about rappers money and britches, we wana hear spiiters who can rap about anything
Feels older!
Great Album.
Over the years.. I always thought he picks garbage beats, but why? I think I know the answer after all this time… he must be liking that kind of beats. And if he does, if he really likes the music he makes, you know what I like it too, even tho I don’t. Side B is a good addition to a bad album and now it’s an enjoyable listening session, it is what it is
He’s the goat.
The NEW School has destroyed RAP, this is a good RAP Album by a GREAT Artist. Period!
This is best album of 2020
Amazing deluxe version
Had a thrill with Zeus, couldn’t skip any song cause they all hit differently. But Em should please make an album with dope beats all through.
They say it gets no bigger and badder
then Marshall Mathers
but I eat 1000 MNM’s
Trash 50 cent candy rappers
U a punk.!!!
Your comment is unnecessary. No one is forcing you to listen to him. If you think he’s trash, go off and enjoy the “rappers” you like. It’s literally that simple. Unless you just enjoy being a troll?
Guns Blazing is a fucking BANGER
Very solid addition to an already great album.
This album is so good this has a mixture of every Eminem we’ve ever seen on the mic and book of rhymes wow ?
? ? ?…that is all that needs to be said…?
Please let me know when Em makes an album where I dont skip at least 30% of the tracks
Maybe it might grow on u
Cmon man – the big homie obliterates this record flow-wise. Sure, the beats are forgettable – but, the man raps his ass off! Anyone hating on this record only gave it one spin or less. It’s much more personal the Side A. I hope he raps until he dies, spitting bars from an old folks home! Thank you Marshall!!!
“She calls me Dumb Bell, she lifts me up and then puts me down” LMAO. This dude is whack As fuck now. And to whoever wrote this article to say that “Em slides across with the poise of a gold-medal-winning figure skater” is not only a horrible writer but a dude scared to mess up his industry ties. Guys flow is ass
You obviously got horrible taste..smh.. Whos your favorite rapper 69 or lil pump? Nobody I repeat NOBODY in the game can do what em can do…Hes hands down the goat of this rap shit..
There’s plenty of quality music out there right now this ain’t it incel. Try Griselda Conway in particular Freddie Gibbs then get back to me how Ems the Goat he’s dated AF. Just cause we ain’t all sniffing Ems farts don’t mean we like 69 or that trash.
What rappers are you listening too? We will wait!
In my personal opinion I feel like this is the best Eminem we seen in a while. This album deserves way more credit than what is given. To me this was better than kamikaze!!!!
I thought this was his best collection of beats, flow and cadence in a long time. It’s funny to me, they talk about rehashing previously used topics being a negative. I mean, have you heard some of the content today’s rappers are talking about? At least he is clever in how he puts it all together. 4.5 out of 5 for me.
Side B has no skips for me, whereas Side A had one. And I fucking loved Side A! So this deluxe definitely deserves a 5 from me. And with Em using more current production, it sends the replay value through the roof. I don’t care if he recycles topics (’cause what else can he really talk about at this point in his 3-decade-long career?); he always brings clever bars and an expert level of technicality to his rhymes, which can make the most mundane of topics enjoyable beyond measure.
He will always be one of the best to ever do it. And at 48 y/o he can still spit that fire like a hungry newcomer tryna get a deal.
He is the difference between a rapper and a lyricist he is in it for the love and culture that is why he keeps getting better and has longevity and rappers are in it for the money then they disappear an want to hate on Marshall. Like kids at the zoo fucking around with lion then crying that it bit their MF arm off! From my hometown Detroit I present to you Marshall Mathers keep killing them.
Eminem spits bars nice flows definitely 10/10 5 stars Chef Ramsay of rap
Eminem always be my favourite rapper
I give it a 5…I give everything hes ever done a 5…Hands down the best and most talented rapper in the game…Who can compete with him lyrically? Nobody has the word play he has..
be on my own (Yeah), head up in the clouds like Zeus
When they say, “You ain’t the GOAT”, I come down like, “Who?”
It is always amazing that what he is doing at this age. Still there is no rapper out there who can meet his lyrical level. I just want him to never stop i can’t imagine my life without Eminem’s music.
Maybe his most listenable album as of late
Lit. Af
Always
The album is fire. He has outdone himself. First with Kamikaze, then with Music to be Murdered By, now with Side B. He is an unparalleled lyricist.
Everyone came after Eminem that he’s guest or he doesn’t belong. With this kind wordplay, meaning, flow and beats he provide , are you crazy to say him guest.
dope 4 sure. he was calm and the beats all special sounding good as fuck and stuff. yeah. well done “old” man.
now do a disc where u say something else. like a story telling cd or some hehe nono just keep doing you man. you to listen
This album is fire
Dope album
Pure fire
A newish different side of Em… Dope though!!
Masterpiece
Solid project and has replay value… I equally liked all tracks however the one with Dre was a bit disappointing as I’ve been waiting for this collab for a long time and expected a better beat and topic. Except for Em’s haters who love to do so, both sides of this album got a great reception and already went platinum even before side B came out. We all are already waiting for his next album.
When I found out about the album, I had to go genius lyrics to follow up. That’s the thing with Eminem, he’s become so complex, too complex, too good with his rapping. I love the album, his true fans will love his music no matter what. But he won’t be winning over new listeners, and he will lose the average listeners as not everyone has the time to pay that much attention to the lyrics or browse up on it to get what he’s saying. So they’ll easily miss what it’s about. The best Eminem songs of all time were not complex lyrically. They were songs you hear and just relate to them so easily and feel the passion in them. Mockingbird for example, there’s melody, there’s passion, it’s smooth storytelling, you get caught up in the message. These days, to get the message, you need to browse the lyrics, or play over and over again and something new hits you. Also, music factor. Forget what he’s saying, how sweet is the music to the ear? He’s lost that a bit too. He’s lost in his over technicality that other aspect of the “music” suffers. Higher and killer are two of my favourite tracks from the album, coz when I am not paying attention to the lyrics I am still bumping to the beat.
Anyways, he still blows my mind with his rapping and everything. Love the man forever. Eminem is is a huge part of my life. His voice has the same effect for me as a mother’s voice for a child. I don’t think there’s any other artist I grasp their lyrics as much as I grasp Eminem’s. And he never fails to be a complete genius. I understand the media these days are pissed, because, he’s not conforming to what you want or expect. Can suck it for all I care. Write as much crap as you want. His music is for a group of people who do not give a fuck what the media says.
That is probably the best and well thought of comment I’ve seen,
I’m definitely a stan, love his old and love his new. But your absolutely right, he got too good and technical.
I could listen to a track 30 times and still miss a fukcing line and some of his best work was the
music you could just bump (Eminem Show) or his really emotional, straight from life shit like mockingbird as u said or
one of my favourites Hailies song….beautiful…..when I’m gone…no apologies fuking amazing.
Still absolutely love everything he’s putting out…this was a really good album, fukc the haters I hope Em
raps all the way to his grave and keeps pissing everyone off along the way.
Goat ?❤️??
MTBMB A and B is some of the best music eminem has put out this decade.
It is along with MMLP 2 but seriously, especially for him, that’s not really impressive.
Absolute ? from A to Z
Wouldn’t have gave it a 5 but it’s closer to a 5 than a 4. My man Em is on a different one. Glad to see him move forward and really dominate his new style of rap. Definitely on the top end of Em albums and no we will never see another SSLP… different time, different mind set, move on.
White ppl need something to cheer about since Trump lost…Eminem aint it cut that bullshit
Yeah, because all white people are trump supporters, right ? Let’s just do something you never done your whole life and think logical about that ignorant ass shit you just said ….. Why would anybody that supported trump also support eminem when he has constantly bashed trump ?? Did make you feel good bringing up white people for no reason ?? But since we talking about race the truth is it’s hard for alot of people to accept eminem as one of the greatest simply for the fact that he is White. And since you mention the presidency .. Yes , let’s be all happy that the man who created a bill that specifically targeted black people and still stands by it today… won ! I’m sure this is gonna turn out great for the culture !! Even though he has not once given a policy to even suggest that ….. And for the ones who keep trying to give Kamala the title ” the first african american woman ” as VP , She’s half Indian and Half Caribbean not African American .. and she was one of the biggest supporters for Joe bidens crime bill ….. Ironic your name is “your dumb as fuq” !!
Shady is just on another level. Word play, rhyme scheme, flow switches man just crazy.
Lyrical genius. Never seems to disappoint.
His albums are social commentary. You won’t like won’t you don’t want to see. He speaks on what is happening it’s a reflection of America. All of its ugliness.
Amazing album, side b is fantastic
Orasatha bars punchlines after punchlines double entendres what more do you want from a hip-hop artist
Top of the tier album!
Side B will have us catching new bars on every replay
We all know by now if lil isn’t the first name of the the rapper it is automatically garbage according to the “critics”. Em is hand down best lyricist of all time.
That is seriously not true. Open up to more music, seriously.
You know what , I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt , please share who I should listen to that will make me rethink eminem isnt the best lyricist
Totally agree bruh, nobody can stand up to Em’s pen game and look at all the O.G’s saying he’s the GOAT ? they can’t all be wrong. Can they?
Top shelf lyricism from the disses & punchlines to the wordplay schemes that seamlessly transition.
Classic
What eminem did with this record was just crazy he made everyone rethink everything because he proved he is the giat
Very addicting album with fantastic production and outstanding rapping.
Discombobulated is rap pornography. And I am here for it. Best believe.
Dam you haters are straight simpletons!! Must’ve went over your head. he addresses y’all like fuck too! if only you had the mental capacity or attention span or critical thinking skills. ?even if the sound isn’t for you, you can’t deny the lyricism, em is the best .
Damn. There’s still people like this. I bet they caught more bars on this project alone, than you did throughout your whole life. Open up to more music than just Eminem. That was a child’s reaction
Damn. Talk about seriously underrating something truly great
Not completely satisfied. Some really great wordplay schemes and interesting concepts but also some corny lines and underwritten songs. Some snazzy tunes here and there like Killer, which sound like they have Eminem a Tyga leftover beat and I’m not really satisfied with that Em did on it either. Very lyrically and musically weak track. My favourite is probably would be Discombabulated, love the throwback, the bars, the flows, the Dre production on here and the hook is mental.
MTBMB was the best Em album since The Eminem Show and side b only made it better. It’s sonically very pleasing and actually gave me the vibes. Yet, the album is still full of bars. Easily the perfect Eminem album.
It’s the best sounding Eminem album since 2003. Tons of punchlines, humor and some nostalgic moments.
Rapping wise, very high level.
Yo this thing is fire!! Why does gnat get all the love when Book of rhymes is such OP song?
I really love the songs.
Was surprised with some of the shoots towards other people in side B but still amazing to listen to. Gnat is my favorite one out of them. book of rhymes being 2nd.
Very solid album for a side B project, can’t ask for more, now please drop the BadmeetsEvil2!!!
Em’s music is like a great book, keep reading into it, and dig deeper into it, and you can really appreciate it and understand that this is music from a talented and experienced rapper and lyricist. G OA T.
Eminem still sonning these new/next-gen sissy-boy wrappers … it definitely isn’t his best work but it’s entertaining nonetheless. The Lil Pumps are butthurt because they sound like kindergarten wrappers with the same brain capacity and vocabulary and flow etc etc etc …
Very Good overall project, especially for a B side. Beats are slapping, flow wise is untouchable, and not to mention the lyrics..
Solid project! One of my favs
I fucking love this
Dr. Seuss with his “Same” nursery rhymes.. “nothing but old trash”
Nothing but old trash yet in the line before you say something similar to what em said on one of the songs off this album so does that make you old trash?
Entire album is garbage!
Why don’t u do something better instead of being a hater? If you don’t like it, don’t wate your time writing!! Trash is you!
This Deluxe is nothing short of amazing.
This is A LOT better than side a. My favorite tracks from both makes one hell of an “album” if you put them as a playlist. Best Eminem in a long, long time. Just don’t like “Favorite Bitch” and “She Loves Me”. 4.25/5
Lyrical masterpiece
Great album
A cool listen, discombobulated, book of rhymes, higher, guns blazing, gnat, favorite chick, killer etc just a few to mention
love every song
Eminem IS TRULY A RAP GOD ?
Deffo my top 5 and nomba 1 to me
He’s the goat still known ones come with it like him
3/5 on every Eminem album from critics, but 5/5 from his millions of fans. Music critics are the untalented bottom-feeders of the press. We know it, Eminem knows it, and as long as he stays true to his fans, well keep ignoring the critics.
Great
well deserved 5 outta 5
1 out of 5 to offset the Stans
Mediocre album. 6/10. The A-Side was way better.
Solid. Alfreds theme is fucking insane, weird that the article doesn’t mention that.
Can’t tell if I like this more than side A, but I believe B is more complete with nice chill flow, awesome wordplay & great beats, as good as I’ve heard Em since the eminem show.
Just OK.
I keep trying to give his new music a chance but every time it gets more and more cringe worthy. “I passed with flying colors…like I tossed my crayons!” who lets him write this stuff? he keeps tarnishing his legacy putting out this trash.
Criticising one line from a song isn’t an album review, 1/10 for your effort.
??
5/5
Loved side a and B many great rap albums in 2020 and this is one of them?
Eminem is a creative genius, he is the original troll of Rap, haters can’t help but love him, and the Stans can’t get enough.
Side B showcases yet again how his limitless technical ability with the pen surpasses anyones belief on how far a human being can take wordplay.
Every bar leaves you in awe, some are corny yes, but sometimes I think that is his intention.
He weaves so many intricate patterns, schemes and flows into each masterfully written song that it’s absolutely impossible to catch every bar on the first listen.
His beat selections in recent times have been quite poor, but Side B has some fire instrumentals to offer, very pleasing on the ear this time round.
The perfect mix of Slim Shady and Eminem on this one with an entertaining overall theme of the album, and an assortment of different tracks jam packed with bar after bar for everyone to enjoy, a million miles away from the repetitive, regurgitated content we are presented with by other rappera in this day and age.
Incredible.
9.5/10
There are so many lines that you don’t catch until you listen to it over and over. Lyrically he’s a genius. This album is one of his many classics and I cannot get enough. It’s not for everyone but he’s an artist that is able to change and still sounds great doing so (like Taylor Swift).
Love the production and his new direction of sound
Solid album
Great direction and concept.
Great album.
Good shit
As always, eminem drop straight fire when it comes to lyrics.
Em coming with the bars, as always. Subject matter is a bit annoying and all over the place though. I like more songs then I don’t.
Masterpiece. His best since the holy trinity
Thanks on my payment thanks again to the skids very much thanks o
Thanks again to my work and I have
Great album ?
Great Album !! *
Best album 2020.
You mean best album YOUVE heard in 2020
Lol he didn’t say it was the best you heard or the best William h. Macy heard……i think it being HIS comment comes with the context that it is the best he’s heard……..oh you were just being a dick?……my bad
Music to be murdered by – Side B Deluxe has no skips, it’s a classic album filled with insanely great songs
Bearded Em is masterful on MTBMB Side B
Once again a masterpiece. Critics always gonna hate on Em. As my man said, “Drink your wine bitch and get offline, Quit whinnin”
So that’s all, loved the album and just don’t give a fuck about your stars or whatever shit it is.
Once again? Eminem hasn’t been close to releasing something similar masterpiece since for 20 years already
Garbo
he needs to take some time and stop rushing out these trash albums.
Masterpiece of shit.
AMAZING.
Fire fire fire
Give it 5 love the details to every line. People may call it corny but it the dpuble and tripple meanings. If you dont get it, it wasent ment for you. All good still a 5.
Yes, it’s as corny as ever and maybe Cormier but, it’s also more witty and clever than ever.
The rhymes and lyrics where top notch at a level no other mc has reached although the mostly old subjects.
Eminem is getting getting better and better,i don’t enjoy revival, but i enjoy side b.
Best work since relapse both A+B. Side A is a slightly better but I enjoy side B a little more because it sounds like he’s having more fun in the songs, also the beats are better. Side A sticks more to the concept/theme of the album and had the strongest song in it with darkness one of his best crafted song, on par with Stan, sing for the moment and beautiful
??? Back to what we expect
Looks solid than most rap projects these days
Not good as expected.
it’s still good for extra songs that otherwise would have been trashed
This album really made me laugh. i was a huge eminem fan but had drifted away from him because of albums like this and his last few. 🙁
Both sides are decent
It’s not his greatest work (we’ve seen him better) but hey, Em stans just want to hear him still make music and be creative
There are some fire songs (I love Alfred’s Theme, You Gon’ Learn and I Will) but the rest are just solid 4/5. Main thing I don’t like are the beats of most of the songs. I’m not biggest fan of Trap in general (only Denzel, K-Dot and J.Cole trap songs I listen to in general) and featured hooks (except Q-Tip and Sly Piper ones)
Also the fact, that Dr. Dre dropped great verse after all those years of silence in music is (and Alfred’s Theme with Book of Rhymes), probably, only reason, why side B is 4/5, not 3/5.
Yes
It’s good but I like Kamikaze better
Just keeps crushing it
