Less than a decade ago, nobody in the Hip Hop world knew anything about New Orleans, Louisiana, except of course for Mardi Gras. But there was an incredible scene bubbling under the surface, with young up-start companies like Big Boy Records (original home of Mystikal and Fiend), No Limit, and Cash Money. It would not be long before the majors got wind of this fresh new sound and wanted to get a piece of it for themselves.
First, of course Priority hooked with Master P to bring No Limit to the world but soon, their major rival Cash Money, would ink a multi-million dollar distribution deal with Universal and then suddenly New Orleans was the new Hip Hop hot bed. This CD is a collection of what set Cash Money out from the rest.
Basically a tribute to in house producer Mannie Fresh, who produced every track, and their ex-group known as the Hot Boyz (Juvenile, Lil Wayne, Turk, and BG) show they are either individually or collectively responsible for almost all the songs on this platinum hits album. From their first hit “Ha” to the infectious banger of the summer of 99 “Bling Bling”, Cash Money brought a different and fresh twist on the materialism that we are so used to in Hip Hop. Almost all the songs on here like “Back That Azz Up”, “I Need A Hot Girl” and “#1 Stunna” on this album shows how much Juvenile, BG, and Lil Wayne, and Mannie Fresh help to make this company.
One of the first things you will notice is that Mannie doesn’t really have a signature but he has the ability to produce hot beats that sound totally different from the each other, “Project Bitch” doesn’t sound anything like “We On Fire”. Overall you definitely can’t be mad at the CD because it gives you all your favorite Cash Money together but it does bring up the question now that Juvenile, BG, and Turk has left Cash Money, what will Cash Money be worth without it’s MVPs?
