Major League Entertainment has dropped 6 albums featuring artists from the New York area. “The Subway Series Vol. 1” consists of a who’s who of all-star underground talent, and is a nice addition to the Major League album roster. Appearances by The Beatnuts, Babu and Evidence of Dilated Peoples fame, Masta Ace, and Rasco round out this compilation.
Major League’s own Tribeca headlines numerous tracks on this album. “City’s Finest” is a fine sounding track, with a melodic chorus, and harmonic vocals as the backdrop. The hard hitting and introspective “Pony Express” is also a Tribeca standout. Other notables on the album include: “It’s Time”, “Throw Heat”, and “Get Large” with Masta Ace, Tribeca and Lord Tariq. A definitive listen is the Babu produced “Duck Season” with The Beatnuts featuring Al Tariq. The beat, laced with The Beatnuts’ bravado filled lyrics is catchy beyond belief. Of note, interspersed throughout the entirety of the “The Subway Series Vol.1” are interludes featuring the great Yankee Stadium PA announcer: Bob Shepard.
The album is solid overall, and an easy recommend. With a broad spectrum of New York talent and feel, this album is great a listen. Major League Entertainment has definitely been consistent with the quality of their releases, and this one is no exception. Sooner rather than later however, one of them is bound to hit it out of the park. For the time being, we’ll have to settle for a triple.
