Hip-hop’s hottest artists from the west coast resurrect the funk with their tribute to the G-Funk godfather, Roger Troutman. “Still More Bounce” features interpretations of Troutman’s sound as performed by Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, DPG (Kurupt, Daz Dillinger), Chico DeBarge, Ice T, Tha Liks (J Ro, Tash, E-Swift), Ras Kass, B Real, Stylz, Kam, and introducing Wolfpac Records artists, Shae Fiol, and Merciless Styles. This album is executive produced by J-ro of the Liks fame.
This album is jammed packed with 13 phat tracks, all exuding that nice G-Funk west coast flavor that all heads love and appreciate. Roger Troutman’s sound is obviously prevalent on this album, and the seamless collaborations of the artists on this within the sound is fantastic. Standouts include “Still more Bounce“, “Throw it up“, “Crushed Grapes“, “Let Me C’ Ya“, the re-interpretation of “I wanna be your man” by Chico Debarge [best remembered in the movie “Love & Basketball“], and the spoken word track “Brokenhearted” by Myeasha Meks. The sound is vibrant, bass heavy, and indicative of the sound Roger Troutman made famous.
Ironically enough another deceased visionary is not on this album, but his voice would have been very welcome. Tupac Shakur better known as 2Pac is nowhere to be seen on this album. A verse from him may have further strengthened the album, and is missed. On its own however, “Still more Bounce” is a very strong album, and all the parties involved should feel proud knowing that Roger Troutman is smiling in his grave.
