Chief Keef – Finally Rich

Perhaps 2012’s greatest viral success story, Chief Keef’s rambunctious antics captured through video and social media have made him a troublemaker and an unassuming branding expert simultaneously. The source of heated debate, his captivating and unpredictable persona has practically guaranteed each concurrent online appearance to be a multimedia event, as fans and naysayers alike gather to watch and discuss a possible train wreck in action. Lending question as to whether he’s more savvy than his immediate impression, Finally Rich is Chief Keef’s long awaited debut aiming to capitalize on the overnight hoopla that spectators find puzzling, disturbing and compelling at once.

As the breakout star of Chicago’s self-contained drill scene, Chief Keef makes art without fabrication detailing the activities that led him to house arrest at age 16. A chance at redemption a year after being written off as a lost cause, Finally Rich does little to help Keef’s case as he basks in unapologetic ignorance at every measure. The rousing chants of established hits “I Don’t Like” and “Love Sosa” as well as album cut “Hallelujah,” the flagrant usage of Auto-Tune and the overall disregard for clear enunciation on “Kay Kay” and “No Tomorrow” all demonstrate the Windy City adolescent’s reckless lack of concern for decorum and convention.

Never a stranger to controversy, “Hate Being Sober” is Chief Keef’s catchy but morally questionable substance abuse anthem featuring an out of place 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa, who only manages to be a slight asset. Though French Montana fits well on “Diamonds,” his presence distracts from the youngster’s appeal with similarly dull results stemming from rivals Young Jeezy & Rick Ross on “Understand Me” and an updated “3Hunna” respectively. These flaws along with the senseless experimental delivery of “Laughin’ To The Bank” water down an otherwise exciting listen for anyone willing to humor Keef’s madness. Assisted by frequent production collaborator Young Chop, Chief Keef has maximized the internet’s potential and designed a lane for himself as Hip Hop’s present poster child for disenfranchised youth.

A fair assessment can see his dangerous character as a product of his environment rather than simple glorification of wrongdoing, with Finally Rich creating entertainment out of hopelessness. Having taken off in a short time span while growing into adulthood, immaturity is certainly a big part of his shtick, but most importantly Keef’s rise puts a mirror up to devastating socioeconomic conditions all too often swept under the rug.

      1. Best at what? What lines stand out in one of his songs? What creativity besides coming up with multiple things he dosent like? I have heard some yung chop beats and their not bad but havent heard any crazy rhymes from Keef. Please point me to some?

    1. How the hell does a Chief Qweef album get as high as a 3? lmfao!! DX, you guys seriously need some new journalists/writers on here.

    2. i waited for the album it its verbal diarrhea after listening to great albums this year Jesus piece , God kid.M.C , O.N.I.F.C and the G.O.O.D album and then this junk i felt like smashing my head against the wall to make it stop .

    3. “captivating and unpredictable persona”?? really, hhdx?? he got lucky with a viral hit and got signed soon after. there’s NOTHING special about this kid. you could wander the streets and find plenty of others just like him.

    4. Apparently rapping about the same things over and over again while also doing a terrible job at it is enough for a 3/5. Cant say the production saved the album because, though the beats are nice, they are also repetitive. I can’t name another rapper who raps the same way on every song, raps about the same things, has the same sounding hooks, and the same kind of beats on every song. There are rappers who do some of these things at times, but Chief Keef is the only one I know who manages to do them all every time

      1. “I can’t name another rapper who raps the same way on every song, raps about the same things, has the same sounding hooks, and the same kind of beats on every song.”

        Rick Ross

      2. @anonymous Nice try but at least Ross has a mixture of hard beats and more laid back ones. Not much change but theres some

    5. HipHopDX is right. For me, listening to Chief Keef IS like watching the replay of a car crash; it may be sick, but it’s exciting. The secret of white gangsta rap fans. 5/5 for the best ignorance that I’ve heard in a while.

    6. lmfao so game’s jesus piece is only a half star better than this trash… the reviews on this website are a joke

    7. Seriously, this site is a fucking joke, and the idiots that write these reviews need to kill themselves. You write 4 sorry ass paragraphs bashing the album and then give him 3 stars??? Its as if you gave him stars for being one of the worst rappers/humans alive and making it big rather than judging the material of the album. Its called a ALBUM REVIEW you morons, not internet savviness review. I often wonder how u clowns get these jobs.

    8. Of course with him being a major label I won’t even lie I was anticipating DX to review this album. I was at a friends who actually bootleg’d (I think lol. I decided to listen to ‘Love Sosa’. The mix was crispy, really good mix. The song of course was as interesting as watching paint dry, but just listening to that track you can hear the major label engineer in that track.. didn’t bother with the rest.

As for the rating – perfect example of sensationalist journalism. This album should be rated 1 1/2 stars – 2 (maybe) because of the ‘major’ features. HipHopDX just wants you guys to get all riled up about this ‘solid’ (3/5 = solid) rating. More comments, more views/clicks, more money.

It’s all about money with this culture and you can tell by the reviews made and the journalist they hire. Don’t be sheep, your wasting your time arguing about the ratings and missing the bigger picture by giving these artists like Keef more attention

      1. One of the realest comments I have ever read in this site. By the way hip hop is, there always will be people who understand and are passionate by this culture and message, but we will never see them on big screen. The problem are record companies, who don’t give a damn about nothing, no spirit, just cold and money.

      2. is there an argument that giving it a lower rating would’ve driven clicks higher? Polarized reviews incite both extremes: the haters and the lovers. A 3 rarely – if ever – does that.

    9. this album is pretty left field, and definitely not for everyone. it kind of reminded me of futures album though not quite as polished. i really enjoyed it, at the very least its great workout music. i give it 5/5 just because it doesn’t sound like anything else

    10. What every ethnicity say during butt sex:

      1. White: Oh yeah keep sticking your huge cock in my tight my tight little ass hole

      2. Blacks: Put that dick in my booty

      3. Asian: Ooooh you put it in meh bott

      4. Hispanic: Damn holmes you got your deek in ass

      5. Native American: You penis has entered my ass like snake crawling inside of a cave to escape the harsh weather. Enjoy this feeling my friend because this hole is a portal to pleasure.

These are real sex facts feel free to add more

    11. every song sounds alike, made me push fast forward on each track,i thought autotune was dead, even the songs with features are wack

    12. This album is bangin’!!! Instead of all this hatin’, you should be thanking Chief Keef for bringing that real gangsta shit back…One of the best albums of the year…Gangsta rap has been saved!!!

    13. If this is “real” gangsta shit, I hope it never comes back. I’d rather bump Ke$ha’s new album than this trash.

      1. Being from Chicago is no reason for this dude being as whack as he is. Hip hop heavyweights have come out of the Chi. What’s going on out there isn’t brand new. Stop trying to make excuses for this cornball and be real with yourself. He’s fuckin ASS.

    14. Chief Keef makes music for people with no purpose in their lives. With that being said, the album is exactly what I thought it was gonna be. Pure poo. 2/5

    15. This dude will not be around in a year. He Makes Music for people with nothing going on in their lives. The Production sounds the same on ever track…

    16. I used to love you with all my heart, defended you passionately, spent my last cent on you, listened to your words everyday all day. You lifted my spirits when I was low, your words were music to my ears…..NOW, things have changed, love has died, I now find it hard to spend my hard earned cash on you, your words no longer make sense and now sound gibberish, repetitive and childish. I can’t even defend you anymore, all you talk about is money and sex. Every time I try and listen to you I feel more depressed……I am sorry to say It’s OVER between you and me dear rap music!!!!

      1. How can you not like miller?? Or lump him with 2 chains?? Kids nice… Im 32, been listening to hip hop since 88, and I still dig him!
Put on an incredible show here in toronto in the summer too!
Cause kids white peeps talk shit, I’m black, and I can honestly say I’m a fan!

    17. Wow! Another 3 X rating, not seen one of them in a while! These reviews are terrible. You spend the first half writing about Chief Keef and then give a poorly thought out review of the album in question. Seriously, Hip Hip reviews need a new format and some originality.

    18. I was looking forward to the album for some strange reason but was very disappointed they should have taken their time with the album but it seems Jimmy made him rush it.

      1. don t agree with that at all, review is pretty spot on. callowness and modern gangland attitude brought forth this album. the shock effect will make some listeners buy this some good catchy tracks on there like ‘I don t like and i love sosa’

    19. what i dont understand is why none of the dudes in the background of his videos release music. no way they dont make worse shit than him so most likely theyll get somewhat famous

    20. all you niggas need to stop hating. my dude be doing his thing, and all you hating ass nigga aint doing shit except making him more hype. you niggas hating but i bet you still bumpping this niggas tracks in your whip

    21. Y’all some damn hater he da shit nd makin money if I wasn’t mkin movies for a living I would b rappin wit him……BANG BANG!!!!!

      1. The fact you want to rap with “Sosa” or whatever lame shit he calls himself proves you’re not only an idiot, but you’re a disgrace to your mother and everyone else involved with you.

    22. fuck da critics. fuck da bloggers. Chief Keef is da realest nigga out dere bitchez! diz God MC is teachin me how to be a better MC and gangsta. he is my idol wit da likes of Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, French Montana and Gunplay. swag

    23. THIS ALBUM GO I BLAST THAT HIT FINALLY RICH EVERY MORNING HATE BEING SOBER IS ALSO A HIT ON IT SPREAD THE WORD ETC SOOOOO MANY HITS IDK HOW PPL ARE GIVING KEEF BAD REVIEWS!! AT LEAST HE KNOW HIS YOUNGINS (INCLUDING ME IM 15) HOLDIN HIM DOWN MY WHOLE SCHOOL KNOW ALL THE LYRICS TO LOVE SOSA WE SUPPORT HIM AND LOVE HIM 🙂

    24. This guy is whack as hell. His flow is remedial, his cadence is corny, and his lyrics make little to no sense. Ever. Anyone who feels as though he is a voice for them needs to evaluate their lives, immediately.

    25. Respect
      4 of 5
Not the best of the year, but no way worthy of all the hatin. Must be a murder city thang. Bless

      #ThatsARap @Dying_of_Thirst

    26. This album is bangin’!!! Instead of all this hatin’, you should be thanking Chief Keef for bringing that real gangsta shit back…One of the best albums of the year…The streets are back and gangsta rap has been saved!!!

      1. THAT’S THE PROBLEM…WE WANTED GANGSTA RAP DEAD.

Chicago needs more rappers like Common, Kanye, and Lupe Fiasco, and fewer like Chief Keef, Lil Reese, or any of them wack ones.

      2. You want some REAL hard shit to listen to?…go pick up some Scarface,Get Boys,Comptons Most Wanted,South Central Cartel ,Kool G Rap, Old 3-6 Mafia,UGK if you wanna really see some Gangsta shit cuz this shit is retarded ass clown bitch shit. Kids with tight pants and gunz are different than real G’z or Lil BG’z playboy.

    27. Everybody knows sosa is not a lyrical genius but neither are a majority of the rappers out now. That being said, he does keep it real. I like the fact that he lettin the world know whats goin on in the chi.

    28. “Chicago needs more rappers like Common, Kanye, and Lupe Fiasco”

Why, so the city’s population can fall into a coma?

    29. HATE BEING SOBER SOUND JUST LIKE LOVE SOSA
POOR PRODUCTION ON LAUGHIN TO THE BANK AND CITGO GOT THEM BANDS WAS CORNY.OVERALL NON IMPRESSIVE, EXPECTED MORE HITS ON THE ALBUM.LOVE SOSA, HALLELUJAH, KAY KAY, DIAMONDS AND DONT LIKE ARE ABOUT THE ONLY DECENT TRACKS

    30. i like how people try to say keef goes hard so the album was good. i only give keef credit for having a good ear for recognizing a good banger. all keef does not screw up a good beat which he sometimes cant even accomplish

    31. Chief keef I fuckwjx u hard keep it lil hxmie fuck thm xther nigga…….trust me al6um dxn leave da da car real shit 6ang xn thm nigga

    32. all the songs sound the same and i cant understand what he’s saying sometimes at one point i thought he was speaking a different language

    33. I like Sosa but to let your guests ruin the vibe on your debut album tells me there is no future for this halfway-prodigy

    34. I got a play copy of this album through a Radio station that I work at, and I must tell you its one of the worst rap albums I’ve heard in my life and I’ve been listening to hip hop since I was 5 or 6 and now I’m 30 and I can’t remember hearing something so terrible DX’s review is on point, He has no lyrical ability No flow and he mumbles way to much and a ton of repetitive hooks, I mean to each their own But there are waaay better hip hop artist out there who deserve a major deal than this waste of space. Blu comes to mind as an example. I’m not a hater but come on ppl this is horrible he made it just because Kanye helped him buy using his single as a remix, I’ll never listen to that album again Trash just straight trash!!! When I heard it I couldn’t believe that a lable would actually release this garbage!! say what you want about Rich Boy but his Debut was alot better than this one and it got slept on.

      1. Thanks God that there are still people out there who understand what the fuck is going on

        COSIGN

CHEIF KEEF GARBAGE LOL, am i hating?? No because i dont want to be a high school drop out black kid lolllo

    35. Even being a hardcore Lupe Fiasco and conscious rap fan, I kinda liked “Love Sosa”. But his album was terrible. Terrible flow, terrible use of auto-tune, terrible singing, terrible lyrics. Not saying this in a hater kind of way, but I can’t see Keef going any further than this. If he doesn’t sell, Interscope will have no problem dropping him immediately.

      1. I think they’re afraid to give it a low score because despite the fact this record being complete trash, he will likely move some healthy units. No one will remember who this kid is in 2 years though. I’m also really surprised how many features he got.

    36. This album got 3 stars…damn…the only song i like is “Kobe” other than that the only thing you can try and enjoy are the beats…the music makes no sense whatsoever…and having 50 on a track called “hate being sober” when we know 50 is not known for getting high…is puzzling…50 should have been on a street trac..but hey!! i guess thats why Keef stiffed his own video shot with Wiz & 50

      1. just because 50 is sober doesnt mean he likes it, maybe he hates being sober

no worse than a 17 year old rapping about hating being sober, im sure 50 done more drugs and drank more than keef in his day

    37. i don’t know what people are talking about but Chief Keef (aka sosa) album Finally Rich was tight. Its not about what hes saying you ignorant bastards its the entertainment.

    38. i thought soulja boy was bad but at least soulja boy had hit records, soulja boy sold mad units too, i dont see any reason for interscope to not drop this bum

    39. Chief Keef, Wiz Kalifa, B.O.B, Wale, Meek Mills these are our new shining artist in Hip-Hop? Hell no!!! All these cats are wack as hell. Kendrick Lamaar, Lupe Fiasco, and Big Krit is as good as it gets in this new era of Hip-Hop. Chief Keef is garbage, it took Kanye remixing your song and the team to make it hot. Garbage!!!!

      1. Agree!! With both lists. Wales first couple mixtapes were aight. Wiz had a couple good ones with B.A.R and K&OJ…After that all downhill. Mothafuckas get a check and a deadline and creativity goes right out the window. Kendrick, Lupe, and Krit, all spitting real shit. Don’t even have to listen. Read the damn lyrics.

    40. finally rich? lol… this nikka couldn’t even afford to hold a Zippo lighter for his album cover.. TRASH

    41. Damn bro!! I’m seriously trying to understand how he received a record contract. This album is trash juice. Wow!! I couldn’t believe how acoustically irritating it is.

      1. hahaha. And you’re the new richard pryor with jokes like that, fuckin idiot. Comparing cheif keef to tupac is like comparing filet mignon to fuckin dog shit. You don’t know shit about music do you?

      2. Have you ever heard Tupac? Tupac uplifted the community, Chief Keef corrupts it an gets paid well to do it.

    42. Damn, the reviewer went too hard. Finally Rich was pretty good if you into that kinda music, at the end of the day its a matter of preference and whats pleasing to your ears. Personally I fucks with it especially Hate Bein Sober & Kobe.

    43. So you gave Saigons great album 3,5 and you give this shit with trash beats and no lyrical content 3 stars???
You must be smoking crack people! Or the corporate world def took over this page.
I used to love this site but Im considering not coming back to DX.
You didnt even include Public Enemy in the list of 2012 best albums, and you didnt even review their two 2012 albums. I recommend you to listen to Sai album again, and to listen to PE albums for the first time (because you obviously didnt listen to them)
      This site is done.

      1. Generic garbage, I’m now dumber for listening to love sosa. Love Sosa, homey I will Smoke ya, selling dat coke-a, strippers popn chocha. he’s not even that good with rhymes and thats average. Somebody needs to give this guy what he want bro, nigga I would choke ya.

    44. fuck this album this is shit on top of shit, nasty ass dreads, this nigga cant fucking rap, love sosa? love these nuts nigga, fuck chief keef bitch made ass 17 cock eating ass nigga, i hope this muthafucker get hit by a car

      1. really tho..wtf, “I dont like” beat bangs but this kid is whack as fuck, ill never listen to music again if this bitch ass punk gets more famous

    45. Anyone seen this cat in an interview. dudes fuckin retarded. I don’t think he knows how to communicate with people. How he ever talked to prodcuers or agents is beyond me. Look at his back and forth shit with childish gambino on youtube. Kids fuckin slow. We really do need to fund more schools cuz these new cats can’t read or speak.

    46. At first I was kind of skeptical about chief keef but I did some research and he was created
By his environment and his surroundings not to mention he’s from Chicago I got some fam
In Chicago and believe me thier hood is crazy a lot of youngsters puttin in work
So for a seventeen year old kid to have a chance to tell thier story and make it out of hell on earth
Is some real shit so I could understand if some of u critics don’t feel or understand where he’s comin from but real recognize real all day and that’s one thing you can’t take from lil homie…

      1. I think that’s a fair assessment. I’m from Chicago and my people as well. I moved but still know what the scen is like. In my opinion, I can’t hate on anyone getting money… But, he is absolute Ignorant Garbage. I feel like we shouldn’t give someone a pass because they “real”. Lyrically he is probably the worst in the game. I also feel like his music appeals and relates to kids in the Chi on a dangerous level. It’s very influential… Not saying hes responsible for 11 murders in 22 days but, his shit don’t help. I was just their a few days ago and I heard Hella cars banging that shit… Niggas acting a fool bruh!!! Jus being observant ya dig. At the end of the day he’s a GARBAGE RAPPER on HARD ASS BEATS.

      2. Yes he is a product of his environment. he was on house arrest and getting in trouble, he made youtube videos got alot of views and interscope thought they could bank off of his gangsta image. They gave him 6 million dollars and said just be you. DOnt you realize now he can never leave that life alone. A true success story will be if he signed that deal and spoke against violence, used the platform and that 6 million dollars to help shed light on the violence in chicago. He’s not telling his story, he’s glorifying it. He was a young man who didnt give a fuck and now he’s getting paid to not give a fuck.

    47. if there was a way to post no stars i would do it what has hip hop come to police is concidered the best and this clown talkin about nothin my ears hurt

    48. haha dam all of you are way off, fist of all you gotta know the difference between rap and hip hop, this dude is a rapper so you cant compare him to hip hop’s saigon. second of all he’s not a lyric’s based rapper he’s a hardcore rapper like tupac so if thats not your shit then don’t even try to listen to this… third of all he’s not a kid he’s a man. when you we’re 17 im sure you knew in your head you wern’t a kid no more. bringing back gangster rap no doubt about it u pussys are way too sensitive now a days and wonder why your kids get bullied

      1. I didn’t even read your whole shit…I saw the line “second of all he’s not a lyric’s based rapper he’s a hardcore rapper like tupac so if thats not your shit then don’t even try to listen to this…” and had to reply. Are you seriously placing this tool within the same sentence and category with 2Pac?? 2Pac wasn’t a lyricist? Your opinion is officially dismissed with that line as you clearly know nothing about wither Hip-Hop nor Rap.

      2. Oh… and 17 IS a kid…not a man by any stretch of the imagination…. and he’s nowhere near a “gangster” rapper… you need a serious education in Hip-Hop/Rap music as you are clearly delusion with your comparisons and categorizations. No one here is a “pussy”. Last time I checked, making a video shirtless with about 20 dudes, also all shirtless, hanging on each other and saying the line “That’s the shit I don’t like” over and over isn’t quite gangster. This dude just sucks… Chief Keef = ZERO SKILL

      3. there is no difference between rap and hip hop. that’s a stupid arguement. hip hop is rapping, djing, bboying and graffiti.

      4. When you was playin Pac Man it was the jams I packed
Peeps would swarm when I was perform in, black I’m all that
Back before they turned hip-hop to rap
It always a place to party at, remember that? – Rakim

Hip hop and rap are NOT the same.

      5. this shit is lame, this dude cant even rap. to breath his name in the same sentence as tupac should be against the law.

      1. Everyone that offends him says the same thing. Its his beats. thats saying alot to defend your favorite artists.

    49. album got at least 6 bangers, decent sales.. NO FAIL at all
ok, no lyrics but I dont care about quantum physics in rap songs.

      3/5 for Keef
      5/5 for Young Chop

    50. I gotta feeling that chief keef one of those niggaz who’s music gets better wit time age like wine. give young homie a few years to figure shit out. he gonna be top of the charts 1 day no doubt

    51. smh at all the talk about chief keef bein a bad rapper i would love to see you making it as big as him keef gettin more ass and paper then u ever will **** 5 damn stars for this true ass gangsta showing u how to be makin it

    52. This is just garbage, people crying ” he’s only 17″ he looks like fucking 25 so must act like that because he calls himself gangster, and a lil 5 year old can write these lyrica

    53. He’s as bad as Soulja Boy. Seriously, my little niece could write better lyrics than this ignorant clown.

Another one setting the black race back 100 years.
