Young Dolph’s legacy will be commemorated by his hometown of Memphis. According to TMZ, Memphis City Council announced plans on Friday (December 3) to rename a street in the fallen rapper’s honor at an intersection near the Memphis Depot Industrial Park.
There will be an unveiling ceremony for the street on December 15 with family members of Dolph’s present. City councilman J.B. Smiley reportedly led the charge for the street renaming once he received the Thorton family’s blessing.
“[Young Dolph] sent the message that someone who went to the same schools as them, and walked the same streets that they do, was able to not only create a successful legacy for himself, but also prioritized family and community,” Dolph’s family relayed in a statement.
Young Dolph — born Adolph Thorton Jr. — was gunned down on November 17 while grabbing some treats at Memphis staple Makeda’s Homemade Cookies. The Paper Route Empire boss was in town for his annual turkey drive ahead of Thanksgiving.
Doph was laid to rest in a private ceremony on November 30 in Memphis. Photos and clips surfaced online of the funeral procession and the program featuring heartbreaking photos of the late 36-year-old with his family. He leaves behind his girlfriend Mia Jaye and their two kids in daughter Aria and son Tre.
This is a nice gesture. It still pisses me off that some pussies gunned him down. I know dolph wasn’t a saint but definitely didn’t deserve that. If u hate someone to the point of killing him like they did, that energy should be redirected to ur own life and improving it. Karma will get its vengeance.
And what about the mother that got killed in the same damned neighborhood? the fuck is her commemoration at? You Americans honor stupid shit everyday just stop already. Honoring a codeine slurping money hungry black joo boy. Don’t listen to his shit go read the lyrics, codeine and money. The end. Nice gesture you’re a fuking enabler with that shit
Its the culture…dont hate. CHHUUUCHH!!
horrible stuff to say about someone you don’t know
Young Dolph wasnt making as much money in rap as you might think. It was mostly drug money. Rap was just a front for money laundering and self promotion!
Stfu hoe!
he was an unsung man of the people i was reading the other day of all the things he did to make memphis a better place. i think one of them got shot by another one of the suspects. interesting.
