YNW Melly is currently battling a double murder trial, but a lawyer who represents one of his peers is optimistic about the Florida rapper being found not guilty.

Leading up to the second day of Melly’s trial, Bradford Cohen, who has previously worked with DMX and currently represents Kodak Black, shared his thoughts on the case. In an Instagram post on Tuesday (June 13), he said he believes the prosecution will have a tough time proving that Melly is guilty.

“Day 2 is coming up on the YNW Melly case,” he began. “The first few days of trial are not that interesting in regards to a story or the real meat of the case… This case is going to be very technical with phones and date etc.

“But again, they can’t say someone else didn’t get in the car or someone else did the shooting. I think the case has built in reasonable doubt, and I saw a lot of the discovery while I was on the case. Like i said, this will be a tough case for the prosecution.”

Prior to the second day of the trial, YNW Melly asked his fans and supporters to pray for him in a since-deleted Instagram post: “Go watch and support me during trial [light green heart] send a prayer for me [praying hands emoji][Earth emoji] Day 2.”

The “Murder on My Mind” hitmaker has been accused of killing two people in October 2018: YNW Juvy (Christopher Thomas Jr., 19) and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams, 21).

The two victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds, after which they were taken to Memorial Hospital Miramar in Florida. Following the murders, it is alleged that Melly and Henry drove around concocting an elaborate story about a drive-by shooting with their bodies in the trunk of their car.

When the trial commenced on Monday (June 12), the prosecution played footage of the two victims being wheeled away on a stretcher. After watching the video, Melly appeared to wipe back tears.

It has also been confirmed that the State of Florida will seek the death penalty against YNW Melly if he is, indeed, found guilty in the case, as long as the verdict of guilt is unanimous in the case.

Last week, Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy sided with the state prosecutors’ motion to follow a new statute that allows juries to recommend a death sentence with an eight-four vote in the penalty phase of the trial.
