YNW Melly received some serious news just days before heading into the courtroom to finally begin his long-delayed murder trial.
On Friday (June 2), Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy sided with the state prosecutors’ motion to follow a new statute that allows juries to recommend a death sentence with an 8-4 vote, XXL confirmed. Previously, it had to be via unanimous decision.
The trial began on Monday (June 5), following jury selection that began in April. It’s been over four years since Melly was arrested and accused of murdering YNW Juvy (Christopher Thomas Jr.) and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony D’Andre Williams). The trial was delayed multiple times as both sides continued to deliberate the framework of evidence being used in the courtroom.
As the trial finally crept closer, YNW Melly’s mother shared a heartfelt letter the “Murder On My Mind” rapper had written to her, and again reaffirmed her son’s innocence.
“Hey ma, damn y’all made my night my whole month,” Melly wrote with hearts. “So glad I seen y’all. I hope y’all seen me. I know y’all did right when you went screamin ‘I SEE HIM’ they made you leave. [annoyed face] I’m so glad I seen you ma! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Tell Grandma & Silas I love them and appreciate them so much. It was good to see them as well.
“Dang B Slime still looked tall from way down there lol,” he continued. “You looked so small lmao jumpin up and down when u seen me. I seen your smile from way up here! Lit da whole jail up! Even tho they tried to make it da worst, still you found a way to make it the BEST. I love you ma I’ma give you the world, Pluto and Mars when I get out. What u want da most too? Lol.”
The post also included a photo of Melly’s family while they were outside, holding signs that wished him a Merry Christmas.
“I will always be here to make your darkest nights bright even if I have to bring the light to you son,” his mom wrote in the caption of the post. “I love you @ynwmelly so much my 1st born.”
Death is not a punishment. They should sentence him to forced labour for a good 50 years without Internet, tv and visitors.
China and N Korea have the right idea. Make it so you don’t want to be locked up. Jail time is glorified when it shouldn’t be. But I understand that it’s a money making business, with black folk being the cash cow.
No disrespect to the dead but I lol everytime I read the name “YNW Sakchaser”
i laugh at the stupid people who actually believe this dumbass is getting out of there. bring on the death penalty and send this idiot to hell where he belongs
OK! People !I don’t know if the people that have commented understand what the real issue is ! yes they say he committed a crime ,But go into his neighbor and school try walking a mile in his shoes our children have become victims of a society that has and continues to oppress degrade, and literally hunt and beat and shoot and kill our children like they have no value ,when they hunt and kill animals the killing is generous compared to how they hunt and murder our children . Our children have become desensitized victims of there environment .Because of the hand we have been dealt crumbs we’ve been given from generation to generation how can success flow! Can we please show empathy their are victims in this story , mothers will continue to bury our Kings and visit them in prisons that are designed to finished the job they started kill them mentally. Change needs to take take place then and only then will our young men realize their brothers are not their enemies then and only then the blinders will fall of of their eyes and they we be able to see clearly that they need each other. I read the letter the young man wrote his mother heart breaking and to the parents that have to bury their children as a parent I grieve with you, no parent should have to bury their children. Prayer changes things there’s is hope for our communities we do it better we come together .We as parents have a responsibility to constantly to teach our children our history , when you know your history it changes your mindset in a positive way mindset Because we can never forget the blood that shed so we can be here. Don’t let the Ron Desantis’s of this world wipe the black man’s plight,
People perish because of lack of knowledge
