YNW Melly has requested prayers ahead of the second day of his double murder trial in which he’s being accused of shooting and killing two friends of his in October 2018.

The Florida rapper (real name Jamell Demons) took to Instagram on Tuesday (June 13) to ask his fans for their support as his life currently lies in the hands of a judge in Broward County, Florida.

When YNW Melly’s trial officially began on June 12, the rapper appeared to wipe back tears as footage of his alleged victims was played in court.

Reporting on behalf of Law & Crime, Bryson Paul remarked that the prosecution played footage of the rapper’s two alleged victims — YNW Juvy (Christopher Thomas Jr., 19) and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams, 21) — being wheeled away on a stretcher.

It was the sight of these two deceased men that brought many in the courtroom — including the “Murder on My Mind” rapper — to tears.

“#YNWMellyTrial: As video footage shows @YNWMelly deceased friends put on stretchers at the hospital, all but one of the women (4) in victims’ families exit the courtroom in tears. Melly even appears to wipe his eye lids,” Paul tweeted.

It has also been confirmed that the State of Florida will seek the death penalty against YNW Melly if he is, indeed, found guilty in the case, as long as the verdict of guilt is unanimous in the case.

Last week, Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy sided with the state prosecutors’ motion to follow a new statute that allows juries to recommend a death sentence with an eight-four vote in the penalty phase of trial.

YNW Melly was arrested in 2019 for his alleged crimes in Miramar, Florida. “Jamell Demons, a.k.a. YNW Melly & Cortlen Henry have been arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder. The victims, Anthony Williams & Christopher Thomas Jr., were killed on 10/26/2018,” Miramar Police wrote on Twitter at the time.

“The investigation, supported by forensic evidence, has concluded that Demons shot and killed Williams & Thomas Jr. and that Demons and Henry staged the crime scene to resemble a drive-by shooting.”

The two victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were taken to Memorial Hospital Miramar. Following the murders, it is alleged that Melly and Henry drove around concocting an elaborate story about a drive-by shooting with their bodies in the trunk of their car.

Henry told police he and his two friends had just finished a late night studio session and as he was getting off the freeway, a vehicle pulled up to his driver’s side and opened fire. Police confirmed there were eight bullet holes on the right side of the car where Williams and Thomas were sitting. Henry wasn’t hit.

YNW Melly has so far been incarcerated for over four years for his alleged crimes.
