Vince Staples has raised expectations for ScHoolboy Q‘s Blue Lips album with a lofty claim about the upcoming project.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (February 15), the Long Beach rapper praised Q’s forthcoming effort by calling it his finest body of work so far.

The high praise from Vince Staples comes as ScHoolboy Q has been steadily building anticipation for Blue Lips since announcing it earlier this month.

The Top Dawg Entertainment MC has so far released three songs from the album, with the first two being “Back n Love” featuring labelmate Devin Malik and “Blueslides.”

The latter is somewhat of a tribute to Q’s late friend and collaborator Mac Miller, whose 2011 debut album was called Blue Slide Park.

He also reflected on Mac’s 2018 death on the song, rapping: “Lost a homeboy to the drugs, man, I ain’t trying to go backwards/ But I realize that [shit] hurts and think, ‘Was it worth it?’/ Man, I gotta shake this shit, wake up and move with a purpose.”

The album rollout continued earlier this week with a third single, the Cardo-produced “Yeern 101,” which was accompanied by an abstract music video featuring scenes of glass-smashing destruction.

While further guest features have yet to be revealed, ScHoolboy Q recently confirmed that Freddie Gibbs will appear on Blue Lips. He also admitted that the Gary, Indiana rapper “lowkey washed” him on their collaboration.

“We make classics bro congrats on the album glad to be a part of it [fingers crossed emoji],” Gibbs tweeted in response to Q’s praise.

Blue Lips is set to be released on March 1 and serves as Q’s first album in five years following 2019’s CrasH Talk.

As for Vince Staples, the newly-minted Netflix star has previously commended ScHoolboy Q’s craft. In a 2014 interview with Vlad TV, he said that artists like Q are needed because of their encouraging lyrics that make people want to improve themself and their lives.

“The sincerity in ScHoolboy’s music, to me, just comes from the actuality of the situation,” Vince said. “A lot of my family is from the hood or whatever, so a lot of my people, they still on that shit.
