Usher recently sat down for an in-depth conversation about his new album Coming Home with some of his famous friends, including Jermaine Dupri and Lil Jon.

Hosted by Angie Nwandu from The Shade Room, Into The Groove gives fans an intimate insight into the making of the recently-released album. J.I.D., Gayle King, broadcasters Cari Champion and Molly Qerim, music exec Shawn “Pecas” Costner and songwriter Johnta Austin also joined the conversation as Usher spoke about his process in making the new album, the meaning behind select featured songs, and more.

He also spoke about his Super Bowl halftime show, saying, “The city gave me an energy and it gave me an opportunity to realize that people love our culture.”

Coming Home, Usher’s first album since 2016’s Hard II Love, was released on February 9, just two days ahead of his Super Bowl performance. The 20-track project features the previously-released singles “Good Good” with 21 Savage and Summer Walker, “Ruin” with Pheelz, “Risk It All” with H.E.R., and the “Usher Remix” of Jung Kook’s “Standing Next to You.”

In addition, there are collaborations with Burna Boy, Latto and The-Dream.

Usher explained the album’s title in a statement.

Coming Home is an ode to going back to your roots, whatever or wherever that may be,” he said. “I’m Coming Home to where I’m comfortable in being exactly who I am right now. My hope is that you identify with the new album no matter where you are or what you’re going through, too.”

“Usher’s latest album, Coming Home, is a testament to his artistry and evolution as a musician,” label head L.A. Reid added. “With each track, he invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery and reflection.”

Following his record-breaking performance at the big game, the R&B legend saw a 550 percent increase in streams on Spotify. In addition, four of Usher’s hits saw a 1000 percent uptick in streams.

The largest streaming increase was for “Caught Up” which saw an increase of 2000 percent.

The singer’s music has also been climbing up charts around the world, with his classic 2004 hit “Yeah!” currently No. 9 on the Spotify U.S. Chart.

While Usher was not paid for his performance at the annual sporting event, he has reaped the rewards in various other ways.

The 45-year-old has expanded his recently announced Past Present Future Tour, almost doubling the number of dates from 24 to 44.

The North American trek is now expected to be his biggest in history, with over 360,000 tickets sold already.
