Twitter Has Spoken: “Black Panther” Soundtrack Is A Hit

Black Panther: The Album was released on Friday (February 9) and much like the response to early screenings of the Black Panther film, people can’t stop raving about the 14-track effort.

Co-curated by Kendrick Lamar and TDE’s CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, the soundtrack features contributions from SZA, 2 Chainz, Vince Staples, Khalid, Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee, The Weeknd and Anderson .Paak, among others.

According to TDE’s in-house producer Sounwave, Lamar started planning out the soundtrack during The DAMN. Tour.

“[During] The DAMN. Tour, we probably came up with 50 percent of it — the production, the hooks and ideas,” he told NPR. “When we got back from the tour in September, that’s when we were able to execute our ideas and reach out to people we respect and whatnot … kind of just put the stamp on it. So, I want to say those two months was the most vital on that tour, in terms of creative process.”

Black Panther (the movie) hits theaters on February 16.

In the meantime, check out some of the reactions to the Marvel film’s soundtrack below.

    1. Before the Movie people were b*tching about authenticity now the got an americanized Soundtrack and no one complaines. laughable

      1. The album had Music artists from Africa what are you talking about? Sjava, Babes Wudumo, Yugen Blakrok

        1. apparently you dont know what authentic and/or americanized mean. Just because you springle 3 africans as feat on an american album of an american music genre doesnt mean its athentic.

    2. Remember in the 90’s when so many movies had hip hop soundtracks that were fire? Yeah this takes me back to that time. This is a nice mixture of tracks. It finishes with The Weeknd but that’s ok I usually walk out during the credits anyway

      1. Yeah back then there was some dope soundtrack albums. A good example would be “Soul in the Hole” soundtrack.. Wu, Mobb Deep, Dead Prez, M.O.P., Big Pun, Xzibit, O.C..

    3. Listened to it this morning
It was put together well give it a 8/10.
They needed to put Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Isaiah Rashad on a track. Lauryn Hill would have been cool to or Erykah Brady.

Seasons with Mozzy and Reason was fire
S/O to KDot for putting Mozzy on a track.
Everyone on the album did their thang.

      1. I would have liked to see Dead Prez, Nneka, Damian Marley, or Hieroglyphics on this album

        This album was awesome nonetheless.

      1. Says who?? Who are you?? Nobody… u jus dick ride what u think is real hip hop don’t know talent if it smacked u in the face

    5. I dislike the tone of the album, its not fun & upbeat. This is a Disney/Marvel movie, mainly for kids. Someone more versatile & transcendent in the music industry, like Pharrell, Will.I.am, Timbaland, or Jay-Z should have curated this album. John Legend & Mali Music would have made an awesome hero ballad. It’s still going to make money, but it could have been better. Where are the Nigerian artists: Yemi Alade, WizKid, Tekno Miles, Jidenna, P-Square, Patoranking, Timaya???

    6. Slluuuuuuurp!!!!Did you think this was going to be a social conscious album just because it’s called Black Panther? This is more watered-down corporate marketing…it’s official. Kendrick is on the tit of interscope. Creativity is being controlled. Shame.

    7. Y is everyone hating, Title Track, All The Stars, X, Opps, Paramedic, Bloody Waters, Kings Dead (without future’s la di da di da part) and Pray For Me were all good tracks. Also the production on I Am was outstanding

    8. This was the 3rd to last rap/hip hop album I will ever buy. Now I’m just waiting on the Black Thought solo album, then Blackstar and I’m done. The rest of the shit ain’t even worth buying. Maybe a song I like here or there but for real most of these albums coming out only have 1-2 songs I would actually want to hear again. I guess it’s a matter of taste but at least I know I’m not a dickriding stan like a lot of rap fans. If you can’t spit you can’t get no spins from me!
