Travis Scott has received a Grammy nod for the first time, and his reaction to the nomination for UTOPIA was refreshingly wholesome.

Cactus Jack sat down with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday (December 21), where he revealed that his first reaction to seeing his fourth studio album among the list of Best Rap Album nominees was: “This time, we just gotta bring it home!”

“It means a lot to me,” he told Fallon. “I love music and I love the Academy. I think some of the most amazing artists and talented artists have achieved that. And as a producer and as a writer and as a musician, I take music very seriously. So I love it. It’s amazing.”

While Travis Scott has nothing but love for NARAS now, he didn’t always feel that way.

Back in 2016, his second studio album, Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, was met with strong reviews and commercial success and served as a solid follow-up to his debut, Rodeo. But Scott’s musical achievements went unrecognized by the Academy, prompting many to call out the snub.

The 2017 Grammy Awards nominations arrived with some of the expected big names from Hip Hop and R&B, and it was generally expected that Scott’s work behind the boards and on the front end would have garnered some notice from Grammy voters.

While Scott himself didn’t make any posts from his personal accounts about the snub, Sickamore, the Vice President of A&R and Creative Director at EPIC Records, posted a photo of Scott via Instagram and Scott later reacted.

Scott chimed in via comments writing a somewhat enigmatic, “So hurt man,” amid the well-wishers and supporters who wanted their hero to get the nod. Whether he was seriously emotional or just having some fun playing along with the photo is up to the reader.

BITTSM collaborator Mike Dean also went to bat for the album on Twitter, saying the Grammys are out of touch with “what’s really popping.”

Scott wasn’t the only glaring omission according to some fans. Many thought Rihanna’s ANTI deserved to be in the running for Album of the Year, and that her major hit single “Work” should be up for Song of the Year. Still, she managed to score eight nominations in other categories.
