The Weeknd Dedicates ‘After Hours’ To Everyone Pitching In During COVID-19 Pandemic

Shortly after dominating both the Billboard 100 and 200 charts with the fervor contained on his fourth studio album, After Hours, The Weeknd is stepping back and giving a salute to those individuals who are tackling the coronavirus head-on.

“When I started making this album, I never imagined it would be released as we face a worldwide pandemic,” The Weeknd tells TMZ as they debunk an erroneous report about higher-ups at his label being a roadblock in the process. “I always felt that music helped me in hard times and I hope that this body of work can do the same for others.”

As of press time, the United States is reportedly on pace to surpass China in total COVID-19 cases as the White House has ordered social distancing guidelines to remain in place to at least the end of April.

Due to the quarantine, everyone has been relegated to their home but even a big star like The Weeknd can’t help to take notice of the climate.

“It’s been amazing to see the real heroes shine in our world right now, the healthcare workers, the grocery store clerks and staff, delivery people, first responders – everyone putting their lives on the line to help others,” he continued.

“This album is for them and any small joy or relief it can bring.”

    1. Well, whether the label agreed with his decision, seems to me he made the right move. Always go with your instincts.

      1. I though about that once, “going with my instincts.” Almost went raw dog in a chick i know who stays prayed up in church. Couple weeks later I heard from one of her good friends that homegirl got a bunch of alphabet diseases.

Don’t trust your instincts, trust the science #guaranteedfanbases #durex #allfactsnocap

    2. These labels are fucking retarded but most of these artists are even dumber if they keep getting played by them, props to Weeknd for not listening to them

    3. Stop with these lies! An album can not and will not be released without the label’s approval. I know the new wave is to make it seem like artist are pulling boss moves but no that’s not how the business works.

    4. That’s because these labels are stupid. Why WOULDN’T this be the best time to come out? When people are bored to death and have nothing to do but listen to music and watch television?

Like, who raised these dumb asses?

      1. Nah, they were actually right. Album would’ve done even higher numbers if it had the full marketing behind it. Look at the sale of this vs his last album and how his popularity has been trending up.

    5. Well seeing that pop music is down in streaming numbers and genres like classical, kids music, etc are up! the labels have a point a lot of people are not emotionally connected to these artists dropping at the moment cause people are worried bout putting food on the table and if nobody remembers the album right now because people are not truly paying attention whos gonna care about the hype of your tour, who has the money to buy your merch or CD right now? you will probably have to create another album before that as well which they have 2 fund. Not saying it’s right or wrong but they have justified on why not too.
