The Top 10 Most Popular Hip Hop Singles The Week Of 1/9/2012

Sometimes events happen all in one week that shift the tides so dramatically. While music is just a mere fraction of what this world offers, the happenings in the lives of artists generally affect more people than we’d like to believe. This week, we were met with some surprises – some happy ones, some sad ones, and some confusing ones – and they’re all reflected in some way on this list. That’s the beauty of music – it always provides the soundtrack to what’s going on in real life. So take a look and se what we mean.

Common Sons Drake, Jay-Z Gets a Daughter

Everyone was wondering who Common really targeted in the song “Sweet.” We all assumed it was Drizzy, but this week it was completely confirmed. Com dropped a remix to Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin” and at the close of the track he says, “Make no mistake; I’m talkin’ bout Drake.” Yikes. He called Drake a hoe who makes hoe music and other fun gems. Some say Common is above this behavior; others think Drake deserved a much needed spanking (Pause). Whatever side you’re on, chances are you checked out the track. It made #1 on our chart. In happier news, Jay-Z and Beyoncé welcomed their daughter Blue Ivy Carter (aka B.I.C.) into the world this past week. Hov put her right to work, adding her coos to his celebratory track “Glory” which made #2 this week. Blue Ivy got more listens on DX in her first week of life than alot of artists due in a lifetime. Salute to you, little lady.

Amber Rose Checks In, Justin Bieber Returns

It was only a matter of time, and you knew that. Amber Rose had to start taking her music “seriously.” While rumors swirled that she’d be doing something in music for real for real, who knew she’d rope in her boyfriend Wiz Khalifa? Well, her track “Fame” hit these streets and made it to #3. Wiz was on the check in, so that was probably a big help. Amber Rose even beat T.I. and Dr. Dre at #4 (“Popped Off” ) and Rick Ross and Nas at #5 (“Triple Beam” ). That doesn’t seem right, does it? In other shocking news, Justin Bieber’s “Who Shot Ya Freestyle” returned to our list at #9. Did a whole slew of Bieber fans flood our site this week or do our faithful readers have something to tell us? Mystikal rounded out the week with a return to the charts at #10 with his Birdman and Lil Wayne assisted “Original.” Just another week in Hip Hop.

    5. ——–TUPAC’S ALLEGED MURDERER——-
The first male artist from the west coast that Russell ever signed Def Jam was Mel-low from Compton, CA. Mel-low’s first Def Jam single BLAZE IT UP feat Redman would become the first Def Jam video ever to get banned from being played on both BET and MTV.

Did you know that the BLAZE IT UP video also has a short clip of Orlando Anderson aka “Baby Lane” of the South Side Crips in Compton, CA? Orlando Anderson has been linked as the murderer of Tupac. You can see Orlando in the BLAZE IT UP video at min 1:48 – 1:51. In the video Orlando is squatting down in the middle of the dice game wearing a stripe shirt, holding a fist full of money while singing the hook. The night of Tupac’s murder, Orlando is the person that can be seen on security video getting beat up in the casino by Suge Knight, Tupac and several other guys. Orlando Anderson was murdered in Compton a few years after Tupac was killed.

Here’s a link to BLAZE IT UP and a few more Mel-low music videos.
