The Rock Celebrates “Hobbs & Shaw” Success While Dumping On Tyrese

The first official spin-off from the Fast & Furious universe, Hobbs & Shaw, opened in theatres August 2 — and has since topped the box office grossing just over $330 million worldwide. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (who stars alongside Jason Statham in the film) took to social media to celebrate its success, while subtly slanging some mud at its largest detractor, Tyrese Gibson.

“Thank you everyone for makin’ this an exciting first week of box office for our lil’ spin-off,” he wrote. “And remember, the best way to shut the mouth of a [clown] is to flex with success and a smile.”

Tyrese had long voiced his displeasure with Johnson over the project, citing delayed production (and paydays) for the ninth installment of the Furious franchise.

“Breaking up the family clearly doesn’t have the value that one would assume it does. #FastFamily has more value as the #FastFamily,” the singer wrote in an extended response.

“$180 million dollar global opening on Hobbs & Shaw is NOT a win … my respects cause he tried his best.”

Hobbs & Shaw saw $60 million domestic box office during its opening weekend, which didn’t fare quite as strong as Fate of the Furious (the eighth film in the franchise), which cracked $100 million.

Fate of the Furious also became the third-fastest film in history to gross $500 million worldwide, passing the milestone in just five days.

Despite the seemingly one-sided hard feelings, it appears that Fast & Furious 9 is in the works — with Tyrese posting what seems to be facial scanning for the film to his Instagram on Tuesday (August 13).

The movie is slated for release in spring of 2020.

    1. This is the worst era of movies, comedy, and music in modern American history. Every movie is a tired unnecessary sequel, every comedian is shook, every rapper is wack, and every singer is some raunchy wanna-be rapper on a techno beat.

      1. Seems most of them motherfucker are doing it for the money or fame. Shit is over saturated with very wack acts with the exception of few very good ones.

        1. FACTS! Unfortunately everything is saturated. Every special interest group has there own sources of media. If you are a”black midget lesbian rapper” there’s a Lane for you simply bc you want one. There are spin offs of every group and you can have your own tv series on Netflix, Hulu or YouTube. Doesn’t have to be any good, all you have to do is create something. If you create a show about jacking off with popsicle and pickle juice I bet someone will buy at least one season of it.

      2. Man the 90’s and early 00’s had crazy films. Menace 2 society. Friday, Dead presidents, house party, new jack city, cb4 man the list goes on even ice t’s shitty straight to dvd Films are better than 95% of the stuff coming out today. And don’t get me started on this generation of retarded rappers.

      3. Then go make something. All these so called movie, music, television, and entertainment experts, artists, etc and nobody got the balls to go try to make something to fill the void they claim exists. Doesn’t have to be a blockbuster movie. If you like great writing, great cinematography, and great production in films and you cant find anything to your standard, then go find some friends, make a short film, and put it on youtube… its free. If not then stay home but can we all please stop bitching about “things not being what they used to be?”

      4. The only part of your comment that is WRONG is the part about Comedy. We are living in the “Golden Age” of stand up comedy right now. There has never been a larger following, or pool of talented stand up comedians making millions on tours, as there is now. Burr, Rogan, Haddish, Heart, De’lia, Koy, Sebastian, Segura. Most of these guys have ZERO interest in movies or TV shows. They no longer need all that. Check out some of their shit. You will be pleasantly surprised.

    2. As if Tyrese wouldn’t take a spin off movie if he’d been offered one, like he ever would be. Salty little b!tch.

    3. Tyrese ain’t hating on him he just need the money fast not later fast. He gotta burger king in his backyard and them n**gas gotta get paid thats all.
