The Hip Hop Week In Review: 7/25/2011 – 7/30/2011

This past week was defined by the unusual. An Oaktown rapper without melanin justified her strong language, while one of Hip Hop’s biggest voices traded up in sales by making a label move. As that happened, fans were surprised to have to say goodbye to Tim Smooth. From OFWGKTA to 50 Cent, singles were big this week, but nothing was even close to “Otis” is traffic or copy-cats. As Hip Hop mourned the loss of a voice and personality we felt kin to, it was a strange week indeed.

V-Nasty Justifies Her Use Of The “N-Word”

Seven years after The Source famously did an exposé on Eminem’s teenage use of the word “nigga” in a verse, a member of Kreayshawn‘s White Girl Mob, V-Nasty, is vehemently defending her choice to do the same. The Oakland, California-based rapper appeared in a video that surfaced this week, justifying her allowance to use the slur. Beginning her video statement, “on some real nigga shit,” the rapper whose name comes from her birth-name Vanessa boldly asked, “Is it a fucking race? Am I offending people or using it in a disrespectful type of way? Y’all mad at that? Y’all need to be mad at this album I’m about to drop on y’all ass. You fuckin’ haters…don’t be mad at me just because I’m doing me.” The story raised eyebrows, and is the latest part of a publicity melee since Kreayshawn signed to Sony Records earlier this year. This was a top story this week, for an artist without an album out.

DJ Khaled Wins At Cash Money

Longtime E1 Entertainment star DJ Khaled released his first major label album, We The Best Forever. The New Orleans, Louisiana native linked with the city’s Cash Money Records, historic affiliates, to release the project feature CMR’s Lil Wayne, Drake and co-owner Birdman. Khaled sold over 50,000 first-week units in a Top 5 debut, nearly doubling the first week performance of last year’s Victory, which debuted at #14.

Game Prepares For R.E.D. With Media Blitz

In last week’s media blitz, Game said a whole lot. After dropping “Uncle Otis” , Game went on to tell outlets, including HipHopDX, that R.E.D. will be 2011’s “album of the year” as well as the fact that he plans to sign to Cash Money Records after fulfilling his Interscope/Geffen Records contract. Along with the grabby headlines, Jayceon unveiled “Infrared” from R.E.D., produced by Cool & Dre.

Amy Winehouse Remembered By Hip Hop

It’s been over a week since news of Amy Winehouse’s death hit the Internet. The songstress was at work with longtime Nas producer Salaam Remi at another album at the time of her death. The British singer who was produced and largely discovered by onetime Roc-A-Fella Records affiliate deejay/producer Mark Ronson, was mourned by various Hip Hop personalities on Twitter, Facebook and in song. HipHopDX profiled Amy’s Biggest Hip Hop Moments.

    1. Is VNasty wearing frames without lenses?! That makes me hate her even more. Fuck that whole Wack Girl Mob, doing far more damage to hip hop than any good. I can’t wait to hear her new album and laugh. No talent.

    2. Khaled would have sold more but they undershipped to my place of employment fye. We were sold out half way through the week wtf.

    3. That’s it my moral code has expired today , at this exact moment. I will personally beat this girl and this guy up for disgracing an art that many people have devoted their lives to. White girls and guys who talk like this and act like this assume cause they may have grown up around black girls or guys that it allows them to use this stupid ass word. If I was black I still wouldn’t use the N word in any form , it is a tired tired word , period.

Back to these clowns above. Are they serious ? The dude with the blunt or cigar has an MTV tattoo. Need I say more ? These turds need to be packed in a dumpster with Odd Future and the rest of these imbeciles.

    4. That bitch’s voice is like gonorrhea for my ears.

Your style is trash, your music is trash and you hold yourself like trash.

…and to Hip Hop DX: you know how the New York Times’ motto is “All the news that’s fit to print”? You need to take a lesson from them… because you give shine to a lot of bullshit that isn’t worth the light of day. Stop feeding the shit machine.

    5. Honestly I was more entertained by V-Nasty and everybody making vlogs about her saying NIGGA. Shit was more entertaining that than whack shit Jay and Kanye put out.

And at least with V-Nasty HIP HOP Fans can FINALLY talk about RACISM WHITE SUPREMACY again it’s about time we talk about this shit instead of bitches blunts and alcohol. It’s 2011 “Black President” doesn’t mean shit Black people are still getting LYNCHED in Mississippi and the System of Racism White Supremacy is still BIG BUSINESS it’s never going to stop unless we ELIMINATE it and replace it with a system of Justice.

But on some real nigga shit though hit up the clubs tonight and get drunk you pathetic hipster bitch-made swaggots!

    6. Yo, v nasty has gotta be the biggest moron I’ve ever seen. Fuckin clueless, lowlife trashy ass bitch. Then she starts off the video sayin “yo on some real nigga shit though…”. Fuckin stupid hoe. Hope she gets jumped!

    7. Yo, for anyone whos curious, that dude is Riff Raff in the video, a white rapper from some old MTV show (From G’s to Gents, i think). Check out his videos on YouTube, he’s on a level of clown shit unheard of before now. Ri-dic-u-lous

    8. Who cares about vnasty, that aint hip hop news to me. I aint interested in her nasty vagina. Plus she look BAD.

    9. Google RIFF RAFF Texas Tornado…

This is a fucking joke, right? There are countless REAL hip hop artists busting their asses everyday for the culture. The fact that Kreayshawn and her talentless crew are getting exposure without any skills is a SERIOUS problem. Listen to Kreayshawn’s Kittys x Choppers mixtape, its BEYOND HORRIBLE. VNasty’s freestyles makes me want to poke out my eardrums. I don’t give a rats ass if she’s being “real” and actually grew up on the mean streets of Oakland. This is about music and she has zero musical talent.

      1. More fans? Really? 2Pac “eventually” goes diamond with an album that came out 12 years ago when ‘Life After Death’ did the same in, roughly, half that time. Nice (and extremely biased) evaluation, OSN. Keep up the good work.

    10. She be chewin rock’s instead of gum. She the only girl I know who can bite into a jawbreaker and split it in half. Big ol crocodile mouf. Don’t ever get this bitch to say “cheese” when she’s about to take a picture.

    11. V-nasty look like Gianna Michaels…but wit grill like a crip set hand symbol. And I would chop that niggas braids off.

    12. Ok honestly, I could careless about a white girl using the “N” word. But I actually took the time out to research V nasty and im not impressed. She lacks substance and lyrically she doesnt hold a candle to half the female emcees out. That’s where all the hate is coming from. Now I would love to see a white girl rap, but I’m talking some serious rhyming, then she’ll get my props.

    13. After watchin that bitch talk like that if i was a black chick i would want to beat the fuck outta that stupid bitch SMH

    14. I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2-64GB and my girlfriend loves
her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there
arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail
prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED
TV to my boss for $675 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is
the website we use to get it all from, PriceCent.com

    15. You are absolutely wrong. I live in Oakland, and I would like nothing more than to murder this bitch with a tire iron.

    16. V-nasty doesn’t deserve to be called a rapper, and neither does anybody in her little group. They make white MC’s look like a joke. Wannabe skanks who snorted too much coke and while they were tripping thought they were rappers….

    17. Hiphopdx I’vebeen checking ya’ll since ’07 I believe. Can you please not post anymore bullshit from any more white girl rappers? And please never none of that Lil B nonsense. Thanks. I only like real rappers who work on their craft and talk realistic
