The Game Pushes Back ‘Drillmatic’ Album Release Date Following Greatest Hip Hop Albums List Snub

At the same time The Game was shaming Rolling Stone for not including his 2005 debut The Documentary on its list of the “200 Greatest Hip Hop Albums Of All Time,” he slid in some bad news for his fans.

On Friday (June 10), the proud Los Angeles native tweeted his forthcoming album, Drillmatic, had been pushed back to July 1. The project was originally scheduled to arrive on June 17 with a whopping 30 new tracks.

As he wrote in the tweet, “@RollingStone how is ‘The Documentary’ not on the list for 200 Greatest Rap Albums Of All Time? I carried an entire coast for 20 years on the back of my 1st album. Cause I don’t walk red carpets, play dress up, smile or fake laugh at brunches I don’t count ? #Drillmatic July 1st.”

Drillmatic is executive produced by Hit-Boy but not much else is known about the project other than the cover art. Game announced he was coming out of rap retirement in a rare interview with HipHopDX in March 2021. During the conversation, he lamented the lack of substance in the majority of commercialized rap but was optimistic things were going to change, especially with his return.

“It fucking sucks there’s no real substance in music anymore, but we have to go through it until it’s fruitful again,” he said at the time. “Logic is working with Madlib. And of course, Kendrick and Cole, and then I’m coming back again. Shit’s coming.

The Game Addresses Scam Allegations: ‘I’m Just Trying To Uplift Aspiring Artists With Dope Opportunities’

“Kendrick and J. Cole can only sit quiet for so long, so you’ll get some good shit. And again, I like the fucking Polo Gs, the Pooh Shiestys, and of course Lil Baby, I love it. I’m in my car, I throw on Lil Baby, but everybody’s not Lil Baby. So again, we got to pick and choose what has substance.”

    1. he gotta remind us. documentary had 3 good songs on it. far from a classic album. rest of it was filler trash. even the shady collaboration was average. game salty…like an ex wife

      1. A bunch of name drops. YG is clearly a much better rapper and represents Cali much better, didn’t even have to make up his whole persona using Dre’s content. Without Dr. Dre and 50, Gayme’s career has been going downhill. Priscilla got him for all his wages so now he’s struggling.

        1. YG lmao I’m not a big Game fan and I don’t think that much of him as a lyricist, but he’s definitely better than YG. My Krazy Life was a great album and Still Brazy was cool, but after that he didn’t make anything up to that level. The sound got kinda stale. Anyway Zero Grav better than both ?

    2. You can hate all you want on Game for his behaviour etc. but I agree 100%, the Documentary definitely deserves a spot on that list. Still playing that shit in 2022

        1. You sound like a 50/Em stan, you already wrote that comment under a different name loser. Lol you act as if 50 is a lyrically superior rapper than Game, he ain’t. Game destroyed 50 on wax

    3. Lame. Trying to make soMe new sound for the west coast from Slim Jesus. That is Chicago’s thing. Time to retire Game. Don’t worry you are #1 on the list of how to get your money taken by a Thottie.

    4. He honestly would be on everyones top 10-20 and listed everywhere if he wasn’t such a damn cornball. People don’t even want to mention his name for fear of being associated. How to ruin a hiphop career by talking too much and being to loud

    5. 30 Tracks of THIS NYGGA?? aint nobody tryin to hear this dude for 30 damn songs bruh. shave it down to like 9 or 10

        1. facts! just like i didn’t buy yo mammy that birth control and now you here making goofy ass replies to strangers gahdayum look at gawd. respect yo daddy BOY. stay out of grown folks bizness

      1. even dre told him peoples attention spams arent too high. he should have 12-13 songs max. this retard didnt listen again and came out with a garbage double album (documentary 2) filled with throw away tracks.

    6. It’s a slap in the face to him that he’s not on the list – which he needs – and even hilarious when you look at a lot of the albums that are

      1. Yeah you’re so wrong about that. Man every time you comment on something I cringe because of how stupid you sound.

      2. I’m one person who’s checking for it and most fans of west coast rap will be checking for it. Fuck numbers. This album is gonna go hard. I feel sorry for your taste in music that you feel otherwise.

      3. What? There are MILLIONS of black and white people…. now Hispanic, I think there’s at least a few thousand on earth. What makes you think only 10k people exist on earth?

    7. Why would Documentary be on the list when Doctors Advocate is his best album?? He even admitted it himself…

    8. This dumb SOB really believes he carried the entire west coast on his back for 20 years? Documentary was his best album and it was only memorable because of 50, Dre and Kanye

    9. “Drillmatic” Dude stays stealing other peoples legacies, Chicago and now Nas. Shit is wack, and not like his rat manager.

    10. You may have to pick and choose but Game got cuts. Documentary 2 might be his best album. Production is amazing. Bro can sound like everyone, but when a everyone sound like Future it’s ok.

    11. Carry an entire coast on his back??? When did this happen bro??? This dude needs to lay off the cocaine because it’s a Hella of a drug.

    12. Why is the Game always trying to diss someone and then always copying another? Go ahead I’ll wait…. #ClownAss

    13. Lupe finna drop an album called Drill Music in Zion on the 17th. We can’t have 2 vets calling their albums classics way before they release with young boy genre in the title.

      1. U relate Drill Music to Youngboy ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️ Naw my g, Lupe from Chicago, the birthplace of Drill Music, Youngboy just joined the movement. I’m not a Lupe fan fr but him doing his rendition of Drill Music could be pretty dope #IJS #DrillMusicFromChicago

    14. I just hope this bi-polar bish has an Em diss on the album. Then we can all see the white boy destroy his clown a$$.

    15. He did carry the west on his back from 2005 to 2010 this was before Kendrick lamar came out. . 20 years he over exaggerate

    16. How this man plan to drop June 17th when Gates Dropping June 17! Nobody even listen to this clown!! KHAZA!!!

    17. dude is so delusional- “I carried an entire coast for 20 years on the back of my 1st album” – yes you were likely the biggest Cali rapper at the time when the album dropped, thanks in large part to being with Aftermath and G-Unit.. but where you getting 20 years from? Dude’s star power and quality of music petered out as the Aftermath/G-Unit associations came to an end.

The Documentary is a great album, but IDK if its necessarily top 200 ALL TIME hip-hop LPs. and it never went no damn diamond like dude falsely claims/twists stats.
