TDE’s Ray Vaughn Calls Out Mal For ‘Hating’ On Kendrick Lamar — And Gets Response

TDE rapper Ray Vaughn has called out Mal from the New Rory & Mal podcast for “hating” on Kendrick Lamar.

The Long Beach native, who signed to Top Dawg Entertainment in 2021, took to X on Monday (May 27) to blast the podcast over his comments about K. Dot.

“That ‘MAL’ dude is obsessed with hating on a DOT & it’s weird asf,” he wrote. “only time I see him go viral is hatin.”

Mal quickly came across the post and simply responded with laughing emojis.

Ray Vaughn’s comments appear to be in response to Mal contesting good kid, m.A.A.d city‘s placement on Apple Music’s 100 best albums list.

The streaming platform ranked Kendrick’s major label debut at No. 7, but Mal completely disagreed.

Speaking on his aforementioned podcast, he said: “Fuck it, man. good kid, m.A.A.d city is not No. 7 of all time. Let’s stop the shit. Spotify with these fake streams. Stop the shit, bro. We all fuck with Kendrick but stop the bullshit. No. 7 of all [time]?

“Yo, he’s five slots behind [Michael Jackson‘s] Thriller. Are you fucking kidding me? There’s nothing personal, but good kid, m.A.A.d city is at No. 7?”

He then said to co-host Rory: “I’m asking you — fuck this list — you think that good kid, m.A.A.d city deserves to be No. 7 and Illmatic is No. 48 or whatever it is?”

Mal has also sided with Drake in his feud with Kendrick Lamar, calling out the Compton rapper for allegedly assaulting his fiancée and claiming that Drizzy’s “Family Matters” was the best diss track.

“You, Mr. Lamar, you hit your girl because she’s bigger than you,” he said in an earlier episode of his podcast. “You put your hands on your girl. You’ve been engaged for years, you’re not married yet. You living in New York, she’s not. Let’s talk real shit.

“All this 11-year-old daughter shit y’all talking about. ‘Oh, ’cause he released it right after ‘Family Matters,’ it’s a better record.’ Get the fuck outta here with that shit.”

He added: “[‘Family Matters’] is the best record that’s been released in this entire beef.”

    1. Agree with Mal 100% on THIS take. In no world, universe or galaxy does any true fan of hip hop belong GKMC is the 7th Greatest album ever and Best hip hop album ever. The Kendrick fandom is sickening. I can probably name 20-30 better hip hop albums better. The problem is, most hip hop fans don’t know shit about hiphop, and are narrow minded. Their spoonfeed 3-4 artist signed on major labels they automatically assume they must be the GOAT because they’re played all the time. I’m
not even a big Jay fan, but im sure he was beside himself by this list. GKMC over Reasonable Doubt? GKMC of Dark side of the moon? Lauren at number 1? This is a joke

      1. Reasonable Doubt is good but let’s not get ahead of ourselves because there’s probably 20-30 albums better than Reasonable Doubt. GKMC is good as well but it shouldn’t be placed at #7 but it’s probably should be placed somewhere near where Reasonable Doubt should be placed. Me Against the World is a wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better album than Reasonable Doubt and GKMC. Illmatic is Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than GKMC and Reasonable Doubt.

      2. There’s not many flawless rap albums, reasonable doubt is close whether it’s your taste or not. And damn is Kendrick’s best album imo, by a lot.

    2. He’s right but he’s also the worst podcaster in history. Seriously. He doesn’t know nothing, doesn’t understand anything, doesn’t want to talk about, or address, nothing. Fronts like he’s some solid, thorough dude and clearly corny asf…but he turns up over Drake??

    3. GKMC is not a top 7 album of all time, but Luaryn Hill also doesn’t have the top album of all time. Most of the list was horrible. But it’s not my list, so who gives a fuck. Also, Mal is a fucking hater, a horrible podcaster, and I’m not sure why his opinion matters. His entire career is built off being the other guy from the old Joe Budden’s podcast who wasn’t the redhead.

    4. “You, Mr. Lamar, you hit your girl because she’s bigger than you,” he said in an earlier episode of his podcast. “You put your hands on your girl. You’ve been engaged for years, you’re not married yet. You living in New York, she’s not. Let’s talk real shit.” it’s a bag on bendrick head for this that’s why he has a death wish and started the nonsense. he can’t show his face in Compton
