In her Instagram caption, SZA hinted at the imminent arrival of her long-awaited sophomore album, writing: “Happy birthday to me. Clock starts now.”
The video teaser arrives shortly after SZA dropped her latest single “Shirt,” along with an accompanying video co-starring Atlanta’s LaKeith Stanfield.
SZA has been teasing her long-awaited sophomore album for months now. In October, she told TMZ she’s recorded over 100 tracks for the project, which she said should arrive “any day.”
The New Jersey native previously said she wanted to release her Ctrl follow-up this summer and blamed Top Dawg Entertainment executive Terrence “Punch” Henderson for the album delay.

However, Punch dispelled any rumored tension between him and SZA in an interview with Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast in September.
“It’s not really a secret. SZA’s coming very, very soon. We pretty much have the album done…We know exactly when it’s coming out,” he said. “But on the internet, you only get a certain amount of characters. You don’t have time to really go into a full explanation of what’s going on like that when you’re in the moment and tweeting something.”
Meanwhile, SZA made her acting debut in the fourth season of HBO’s Insecure in 2020 and is set to star in a movie called Tuna Melt alongside writer/director Eddie Huang and Euphoria star Chloe Cherry.
