Steve-O has unearthed never-before-seen footage of when Raekwon threatened to do bodily harm to him over an Ol’ Dirty Bastard tribute that he felt was “disrespectful.”
In a video shared to his Facebook page on Tuesday (June 13), the former Jackass star explained exactly what happened between himself and The Chef during the Wu-Tang Clan’s headlining performance at Rock The Bells festival back in 2006.
Steve-O said it all began when he was arrested for multiple felonies in 2002 and was held in the same Los Angeles jail cell previously occupied by ODB, which was a “big deal” for him as he “loved” the late rapper.
“[ODB] was the king of not giving a fuck, way before Kanye did it,” the 49-year-old comedian said.
Steve-O then recalled watching Ol’ Dirty Bastard perform in New York City two years later and being blown away his on-stage antics, which included being “on stage with his pants down, dick out, smoking a huge blunt of PCP” before nodding off in front of the crowd. “I just thought, ‘That is my hero,'” he remembered.
After ODB passed away in 2004, Steve-O said he struck up a friendship with Method Man and spoke to both Meth and RZA about his idea for an ODB tribute during the Wu’s aforementioned Rock The Bells set.
Steve’s plan was to “get butt dirty-ass naked and flip my balls back” before doing a “perfect back flip and land with a standing mangina.”
Shortly before hitting the stage, however, Method Man advised the comedian against doing the stunt as he would most likely get beaten up. Rather than opting out, though, Steve-O told Meth: “Dirty would love that!”
Once the Wu and Steve-O were onstage, ODB’s mother, Cherry Jones, was brought out. Steve-O then got on the mic and told the crowd about being in the same jail as the late rapper before executing the comical tribute — which didn’t go down well with Raekwon.
“All of a sudden, Raekwon stops the show completely,” the former MTV star said. “He grabs me by my neck and drags me to the front of the stage.”
The video then cuts to footage of Rae with his hand around the back of Steve-O’s neck and telling him: ‘I didn’t appreciate that, and I’ma tell you right now in front of all these people, you gonna apologize or I’ma knock you out in front of all these people. ‘I’m not playing, straight up, that was disrespectful. I’m ready to fuck you up, so you better apologize right now. And I’m going to jail, straight up.'”
Steve-O quickly obliged and apologized to both the crowd and ODB’s mother, saying: “I honestly did not mean any disrespect. I came here because I love Dirty.”
“I’ve never considered myself a tough guy, but even I was surprised by what a bitch I was in that moment,” Steve-O joked while reflecting on the tense encounter. “After that, I was allowed to go — and security told us that I really should go because I was definitely not safe.”
He added: “Of course, I was totally humiliated by the experience, and ever since then, I’ve done everything I can to express that I meant no disrespect. I really tried to make it right; I talked to Method Man, I talked to RZA.
“I’ve reached out to Raekwon to try to make it right with him as well, but Raekwon is not interested in talking to me about it. If I ever get the chance to meet Raekwon, I hope that we can be cool, but if he makes me apologize again, I absolutely will, very quickly.”
Raekwon shared his side of the story during a 2013 interview with VladTV, saying he was “livid” at Steve-O’s naked stunt.
“I was livid behind that because I ain’t think no n-gga would ever dare have the balls to do some shit like that,” the “Ice Cream” rapper said. “You got a lot of stupid n-ggas that think shit is funny but, I was shocked. I was like, ‘Yo, this n-gga is on stage naked.’ I ain’t catch him. He came from the back, so whoever he was standing around was it was like, ‘How the fuck you gone let a n-gga be so close to you naked.?’ ”
“At that time, it was a great show,” he continued. “We had my man mom’s there. It was a speech, and he just popped up. When we seen him, everybody was like, ‘Get the fuck outta here.'”
Man, Steve O would’ve mopped the floor with him. But I hate seeing my brothers fight. Everyone remember to mask up and get your booster shots and love each other
I have no idea why Steve O thought that shit was somehow paying tribute but I’m glad Raekwon shut that shit down and made him apologize especially with ODB’s mom being present.
But when odb stands on stage with his dik out smoking pcp in front if everybody its not a problem…. Ok got it, hypocrite! As if his mom never seen anything worse than steve o’s microdik…..
I loved Steve I coming up, that was my middle school) highschool years, I’m sure his heart was in the right place, but it just wasn’t the right time…. I’m glad they all are mature to look back and laugh at it, it’s all luv
rip odb
I hate ‘shock value’ culture. Even ODB went way too far with it. It’s one thing to be edgy, it’s another thing to just be an out of control crack head.
“Unseen”? Definitely saw this before smh
Did you not watch the whole video stalker,Rae didnt shut shit down Steve O still did the stunt. Rae was just being a lil snow flake about it, why didnt you tell him how you felt when he told you what he was gonna do Rae, RIP ODB. He no doubt would of loved to see the whole thing knock out n all. Prolly would of been Stev-o with the K.o punch tho
