Snoop Dogg’s Latest Studio Session With Dr. Dre Sparks ‘Detox’ Album Hype

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre brought 30 years of Hip Hop history to the Super Bowl stage in February. If a recent Instagram photo proves to pan out, they’ll also be giving life to one of Hip Hop’s most rumored albums in over 20 years — Detox.

On Thursday (March 31), Snoop shared a photo of him and Dre in the studio with the caption, “The Chronic is bac home.” While the photo was merely alluding to the two longtime friends getting back in the studio together and not the return of early Death Row classics such as The Chronic to select streaming services, the devil happened to be in the details on the whiteboard behind them.

A Twitter user pointed out in the background a tracklist for Detox, Dre’s long-awaited proper follow-up to his 1999 album, 2001. The concept of the album has shifted multiple times over the years years, including several stops and start teases by collaborators who’ve contributed verses, wrote for the album and more.

In 2015, ahead of promotion for the film Straight Outta Compton and Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre, Dre explained to Beats 1 Radio why the mythical album never materialized.

“This is something you’re not gonna hear many artists say: the reason that Detox didn’t come out was because I didn’t like it,” he said. “It wasn’t good. The record, it just wasn’t good… I mean seriously, I worked my ass off on it, but I didn’t think I did a good enough job. I couldn’t do that to my fans, I couldn’t do that to myself, to be honest.”

Dr. Dre's Attorney Refutes Snoop Dogg's Claim He Owns 'The Chronic'

Nevertheless, the Good Doctor is always working and tinkering with things behind the scenes. It’s unclear what the future may hold for early Death Row albums under Snoop Dogg’s care, but the duo haven’t fully put to rest the final chapter of one of Hip Hop’s long-awaited albums.

      1. Of course they do. If Dre actually confirms he’s dropping Detox after all of this time, they hype and clamour to hear it would be insane.

        1. Revival was pretty terrible. Too many songs, too long songs, and personally I didnt like that he didnt put any of his Shady Records artists on it.
Kamikaze was better but the mixing and mastering was terrible. It should be remastered asap because sonically is sounds like amateur hour.

    1. The new album Detox will be made available this July 2023.

With an all star studded line up of artists for a 21 track album.

It has been in the making for well over 20 years since 2002.

But because Dr Dre had other commitments of working on others artists singles and albums Detox got delayed for well over 20 years,

But the album is coming finally.
