Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have gotten fans excited by giving a concrete update on the status of their long-awaited new album, Missionary.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday (June 9), Snoop shared a photo of Dre sat behind the boards, coffee in hand, as he reflectively chips away on some new tunes.
While a release date still remained elusive for the project, Snoop confirmed in the caption that fans will soon get their hands on some new music from the West Coast legends, writing: “Coming soon.”
Conway The Machine was just one of the people who expressed his excitement at seeing Dre back at it, writing “yes!!!!” in the comments with multiple fire emojis.
The pair were first spotted reuniting in the studio last March, with Snoop announcing on Instagram: “The Chronic is bac home.” Snoop then confirmed during a red carpet appearance last summer for ET that the two of them were in fact “cooking up” something new.
That announcement was followed by an appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast last October, where Snoop said they were in fact working on a new project called Missionary.
While the duo have otherwise been relatively silent on what the album could entail, Grammy Award-winning producer Smitty, who has collaborated with both West Coast legends, previously spoke a bit more on the overall vibe surrounding the new tape.
“It’s gonna be great music,” Smitty said in an interview with AllHipHop. “That’s not even the given. What people won’t expect is the level of execution that Snoop is committed to. Snoop’s in his bag.
“I was in Hawaii working with other projects last week. He called me — I’m three hours behind, it has to be eight in the morning — he’s like, ‘Man, this is Snoop. Little bro, I ain’t seen Dre this excited since The Chronic. He’s really excited about what we’re doing.’
Missionary will serve as Snoop Dogg’s 20th studio album and his the follow-up to his aptly-titled 2022 release Bacc On Death Row, which marked his return to the storied West Coast gangsta rap label as its proud new owner.
Snoop most recently linked up with Ice Cube, E-40 and Too $hort earlier this year to form the supergroup Mount Westmore, who dropped off their debut album last December.
Yea yea we know.. the albums dropping soon. Right after Detox it’ll be released 🙄
Smh we get a picture of Dre in the studio every other week. Doesn’t mean anything
You’re right. Just like I get pictures of your mom every week… doesn’t mean I’m going to let her ride.
Yeah, we know you prefer male bottoms, so no surprise there.
Anybody dumb enough to actually believe this nonsense that’s been going on for 2 decades now about all this new Dre material “coming soon” I got a bridge I want to sell you
Dre released an album worth of Music in Jan 2022 with GTA, its on spotify… he released the Compton album in 2015… he released Detox lost vault via apple radio… that narrative is not true….
The GTA soundtrack was 6 songs, most of it lackluster and sounded old af. The Compton soundtrack was nearly a decade ago and nobody cared.Fact is he hasn’t released a full length album in over 20 years
S123 You definitely get it and I agree 100 percent. Facts101 on the other hand is entitled to his own opinion but not his own “facts”
On a side note if this magically does get released on Death row / Aftermath records does anyone else think that is a crazy concept.
