Safaree Samuels Says He Helped Nicki Minaj Write Her Raps

A very public breakup — centered around The Pinkprint album — has placed Nicki Minaj and her former boyfriend Safaree Samuels in a position where they’re sparring with one another via social media and press appearances.

Today (January 13), Safaree stopped by Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club to speak openly about his relationship with Nicki and why things seem to have crumbled.

“That was my soulmate,” he says about their once-discreet relationship. “Me and her were calling all the shots.”

Safaree also explains that their relationship originated in a group they both belonged to called The Hood$tarz. When things didn’t work out, Nicki decided to go solo and SB supported her.

“Every time it came to writing raps,” he says, “it was me, her and the beat. It got to the point where the respect was gone. I’m the one who packed my stuff and left.

“Everyone around her works for her,” he continued. “I was being treated like an employee instead of her man.”

Nicki’s rumored relationship with Meek Mill was brought up and DJ Envy asked Safaree if he was the one that introduced her to Meek.

“Yeah,” he replies. “But if that’s who she decides to move on with, it is what it is. I’m not mad. I’m not bitter. If I wanted to make it work, I could’ve made it work. She can take a picture with whoever she wants, she can get married tomorrow and be pregnant the next day I will wish her the best, but when you try to pull me down and discredit what I’ve done for you, that’s what’s weak to me.”

Safaree emphasized to the hosts that the “respect was gone.” So, when he heard the harsh lyrics on Nicki’s track “Only,” he says that he was numb to it.

“As far as the ‘Only’ song, that’s something on the outside people take as disrespect,” he says. “Maybe, I’ve been dealing with it for so long, it seemed like the norm to me. I got numb to it.”

Although it appears his ex has moved on, Safaree says he’s not trying to rush into a new relationship.

“I need to learn myself right now because I lost myself, so I’m trying to build myself back up,” he says. “I’m getting used to being around people again.”

    1. I can respect where SB is coming from. If Nicki has indeed moved on, there’s no need to bring SB down to her highschool level mentality. If it is what it is, then keep it movin’ Nicki.

    2. this is all about $.
listen carefully to what he is saying. he is not making his own $. she don’t want to fuck with him. got to be independent especially as a man.

      1. I don’t believe you dean, maybe if you had more experience in your words instead of contrite gossip then I would.

    3. Mess at SB implying he wrote the raps. You just need to listen to his own songs to find out, the lyrics are all Nic

    4. You know, he did not say he wrote raps– he sd when they were in the studio it was me, her and the beats. That does not mean he wrote it. He means they were always together even when she was writing… they were a team. People are saying he is a gentleman– but what I get from him — is a smoke screen– he says all these supposedly honorable things but what he is doing with that ambiguous statement is seeking to take a dig at her… leaving it open to multiple interpretations. This is what happens when you are in a relationship and you do not give each other space to be themselves and grow…. so now he can come now and make ambiguous statements that seem contentious. (Smh) Honestly, I do hope they can come to some amicable terms and stop discussing things with the media.

      1. lol can tell u didn’t see the interview and only going off this poorly written “article”. either that or you’re just a simpleton.

    5. Ive never had a girlfriend in my life but if I did she would probably discourage me from rapping and break my dreams nevermind writing raps for her LOL.

    6. The fact remains that If you listen to his music he didn’t write her music. If anything he sounds like her, she did say he helped with picking out the beats. There is many videos of her sitting there writing her stuff as well as other artists seeing how she sat there and wrote her part. He came off as a humble person but really was he going to say crazy stuff about young money. Meek Mill, or even Nicki because his contacts are HER contacts. Dj Envy and then used him and he fell for it because they didn’t ask him about his music all about getting dirt in Nicki since she doesn’t fuck with them anymore. He definitely wants her back but pride is a ruler. It seems she stop respecting him because he didn’t demand it early on in the relationship and when he finally spokeup it was too late. Do wish dude well because he wanted to take his life for this, why go to hell for love Jesus is real!!! But dude lied when he said she could get married today and pregnant tomorrow and he will be okay…..Bye Felicia…. Man after 12+ years and she get marry/kid within a year of a breakup you really would take his life. She will go after him though on her music as well Meek, hope is ready for the heat.
