Russell Simmons’ Daughter Calls Out Her Non-Black Friends Failing To Speak Out On George Floyd

Like so many others, Russell Simmons’ daughter Aoki Lee is outraged over the death of 46-year-old black man George Floyd, who died on Monday (May 25) after white Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin placed his knee on Floyd’s neck for roughly four minutes while detaining him on the ground.

On Wednesday night (May 27), Aoki shared a statement to her Instagram account, explaining in the caption she was “feeling black” and chastising her non-black friends for not speaking out about Floyd’s murder.

“My non-black friends, I cannot begin to unpack your silence,” she wrote. “I am scared of what it will tell me. The things you are here for and the things you are not, what do they say about you? About me for choosing you? I am ashamed that this is as far as I’ll go, a toe in the water of truth.

“Just a shade of the other side of myself, that side buried or surfaced that is blackness beyond color. Beyond my hair taking longer to style, while we sit side by side in the salon. But see you see, and I see your silence.”

Aoki continued, “I understand now, that you will only interact with the girl you can understand. Because she’s just like you, at a good school like you, good family like you. But blackness? I guess that’s not like you. I don’t expect you to be a mind reader. You’ve been told explicitly in black and white and subtweet. You know the brutal message I have received.

“If black people need you, I need you. And you know me right? Your study buddy, your dance partner, your romantic interest, the very same. So don’t say you didn’t know, I’ve just told you. Be honest, and for that side of me, you didn’t care.”

In the wake of Floyd’s death, countless people have expressed their anger on social media, calling for justice. In an interview with CNN on Tuesday (May 26), Floyd’s family said simply firing the four officers involved in the incident wasn’t enough — they are demanding they be charged with murder.

Ice Cube, T.I., Common, Ice-T, Chuck D, Snoop Dogg and Aoki’s father are among the many joining the fight.

    1. I’m shocked that she is shocked. Most not all but most mayonnaise ppl do not get themselves involved in black ppl affairs. For every one Karen that involves themselves in black ppl affair for the right cause, there is 500 Jennifer’s, Jill and Adams that go nope not my problem. When you live in a bubble for way too long.

      1. Dont forget about all the racist Shaniqua’s and Malik’s that literally hate white people and constantly lash out at them then are dumbfounded when nobody extends a helping hand to them.

      2. Well, they care as much as black people do about native Americans, Latinos, LGTBQ people… this dummy said Mayonaise. You are using a smartphone, on the internet that is powered by electricity. All white inventions. LOL. The reason you have all of your limbs and make more than $2000 YEARLY is because you are in the US. Your welcome. Maybe study and work hard so you won’t have to blame others for your shortcomings. We get it. You never met your dad. Move on.

    2. That’s natural. I wasn’t really moved when the Tsunami happened, nor did the Chinese care much about the Trans Atlantic slave trade. Which Africans are really bothered by the Holocaust or the North Korean situation? We are all prejudiced.

      1. To be fair. The Chinese; more so the government don’t care about anything other than their grasp of power.

    3. Why would white people get involved when you spend every other waking minute generalising and villifying them for every little thing? Aren’t white people usually told to STFU and mind their business when it comes to so called “black issues”? Here’s a suggestion… Maybe next time a tragedy like this happens you stage protests outside of the courts and police station rather than using it as a pitiful excuse to smash up your own area and loot local stores.

      1. That’s facts. You have a platform to bring people together. She makes a statement that does the opposite. Right on.

      2. No, you see, white ppl are told to stfu if they have a differing view on black issues. Wait, hold on, Eminem just reminded me of something… I’m wrong on this one. You’re right lol.

    4. I’m trying to unpack the silence in regards to the white teen killed by 5 of her black peers. No outrage? Southside Chicago has more killings a year than all US mass shootings combined, mostly black on black with the occasional black on white murder, quiet on that one as well. The silence on your father’s history of sexual assault and predatory behavior also needs some unpacking. This dumb little THOT. Am I the only one that see a coincidence in… BLM was HUGE before the last election. IMO it helped Trump win. It all but disappeared until recently, now for the last month or so it’s ramping up again. Strange right?

      1. That case doesn’t fit the narrative. All deaths are tragic, but only ones regarding a specific race being in the receiving end will be reported. Especially during election year. Funny how that works. These kind of things supposedly weren’t happening when Obama was president. I imagine that if Jump Off Joe Biden aka Mr Magoo were president these things wouldn’t happen either. But what do I know, I don’t have money to buy the influence of masses without spending a dime.

    5. Hilarious…white people can’t speak on black issues, unless you expect them to shit on their own and take blame for something they didn’t do. It’s like they think we don’t understand that shit. Bottom line is people just like to point fingers…this has become a “race” issue when it’s really about a shitty cop, which is why nobody gives a shit about these things anymore for longer than a couple weeks. Funny tho, all these race issues seem to always get worse around election time. BLM got a big push right up until Hillary lost, then nobody seemed to really give a fuck no more…I’m assuming BLM will make a big comeback this summer and the “protests” will be in full effect. Wake the fuck up people

    6. Its so similar to womens rights. Men are shit on for not speaking up for women and then male feminists are told theyre just speaking up for their own benefit. Thats why most people just stay quiet and try not to step on anyones toes.
Also, just because someone doesnt post about this tragedy on their social media doesnt mean they dont care. Quite the opposite. Shit is sad either way.

    7. this the dumbest thing ever and this girl is stupid and every one in america is stupid. the guy wasnt killed cause he was black. not every death from a white cop against a black man who didnt wanna just comply n thought resisting was smart. and yes, he did resist. they always resist. always. always non compliant. stop doing it to yourselves, black people. the guy was innocent, so why not comply? why not say ‘this is bullshit but whatever, just follow the rules n theyll figure it out.’
dont start getting mad going ‘this is racist and im a victim and no officer i will not listen and yes im gonna disregard your instructions and act more aggresively, acting as if my people dont openly threaten to murder your people and any people that witness or tell, ouch ouch oh shit, i cant breathe, im ready to comply n………………………’
stop acting like grown ass babies with a death wish just cuz ‘u a victim and u grown and no one especially a white cracka ass cop gon tell u wat to do.’ and this girl needa stfu, ‘either you say you hate cops and acknowledge or sorry sorry victimness or youre a racist and hate black people.’

      1. and at same time, wtf are cops doing leaning on peoples necks? are they trained this way? and why when a cop is an altercation with a person, people swarm, holding objects up pointed at the cops (phone), and they think this isnt gonna cause the cop to maybe not think clearly cuz theyre people just like you retards who might panic when trying to do their job and then surrounded by all sides. maybe its literally everyone involved who is at fault. the cops, the black guy who is dead, the person who called the cops, and for sure the crowd. and dont forget the media who wants to use this story and all stories like it to spread fear/anger into black people in hopes theyll act this way again and get themselves killed so the media can take another story and cash in $$$. and then the white people who are terrified of being called a racist but love to point fingers at others, they eat the shit up, throw money at the stories, shining light on them, acting like thatll help any fucking body. if people care about black people, theyd actually help. but it also takes the black people to accept that help. right now, no one is helping any one. and it sucks.

      2. “Part of the arrest was filmed by a bystander and streamed to Facebook Live.[1][25] This video went viral.[26]

When the video starts, Floyd is already pinned face-down to the ground, and Officer Chauvin is kneeling on his neck.[3][6][27] Floyd repeatedly tells Chauvin: “Please,” and “I can’t breathe,” while also moaning, groaning and sobbing.[1][27][28] A bystander tells the police: “You got him down. Let him breathe.”[29]

After Floyd says, “I’m about to die,” Chauvin tells Floyd to relax.[27] The police ask Floyd: “What do you want?” Floyd repeats: “I can’t breathe.”[28] Floyd continues: “Please, the knee in my neck, I can’t breathe.”[27] The policemen taunt Floyd to “get up and get in the car,”[30] to which Floyd replies: “I will … I can’t move.”[31] Floyd also cries out: “Mama!”[28] Floyd protests: “My stomach hurts, my neck hurts, everything hurts,” and requests water.[28] The police do not audibly respond to Floyd.[28] Floyd begs: “Don’t kill me.”[32]

A bystander points out that Floyd is bleeding from the nose.[1] Another bystander tells the police that Floyd is “not even resisting arrest right now.”[3] The police tell the bystanders that Floyd was “talking, he’s fine”; a bystander replies that Floyd “ain’t fine.”[1][33] The bystander protests that the police were preventing Floyd from breathing, urging them to “get him off the ground … You could have put him in the car by now. He’s not resisting arrest or nothing. You’re enjoying it. Look at you. Your body language.”[1]

Floyd eventually goes silent and motionless, but Chauvin does not lift his knee from Floyd’s neck.[6][27] The bystanders protest that Floyd was “not responsive,” and repeatedly ask the police to check Floyd’s pulse.[1][3] A bystander questions: “Did they fucking kill him?”[15]

An ambulance eventually arrives, and Chauvin does not remove his knee until emergency medical services put Floyd on a stretcher. Floyd is loaded into the ambulance and taken away.[1][32][33] A male bystander says that the police “just really killed” Floyd.[1][27] Chauvin had knelt on Floyd’s neck for at least seven minutes, including around four minutes after Floyd stopped moving.”

        1. and what happened before that? what happened in the missing clip between when he was sitting against wall to when he was on ground regretting what he did in that missing clip?

    8. What isn’t being told is that there are people in every position of power who are racist or abuse their power. It’s just cops. Politicians on the left and right do it. But no one says anything about it. Currently democrats are holding their states hostage and not letting them reopen along with other states. Where’s the outrage in that? Can we keep the same energy for other people in power? Or we just going to keep the I hate cops thing? Cause on the other end of that the people who support democrats are the ones who without knowing it are supporting a police state as well. You can have it both ways.

    9. the media loves this. they go through all the stories of people dying by cops, pick out the black ones, show them, put anger/fear into them, so that blacks think theyre being hunted and killed by cops, so they act out in any confrontation with police, increasing the likelihood of this happening again.

and the white people, terrified of being called racist, eat these stories up, so they can talk about it and talk about how theyre not racist and point a finger, while also seeing this as entertainment at the same time, so when altercations happen on the streets, they crowd around pointing their phones at cops, increasing the likelihood of this happening again.

and the black people just openly hate cops and openly talk about killing cops, and killing any witnessess or any one who tells, and you ‘aint a real one til you kill one’ and gotta have bodies, and because the white people dont actually care about the black people, they act as if what the black people do and say has no connection to how their perceived, and those negative perceptions that they create themselves increases the likelihood of this happening.

and the cops arent being trained, are being sent out to gang neighborhoods where they are in danger a lot, peers have died, the stories go around, theyre on edge, undertrained, afraid that entire people are out to kill them because of their profession, its hard to help people who dont want to be helped and shit on your for helping and for not helping in a weird post-slavery brain disorder (its real and it needs to be addressed or it wont get better!). The cop killed a guy, he fucked up completely thoughout the entire situation, he was wrong, he should be punished.

cops need to be punished and understood.
white people need to stfu and actually help.
media needs to be crucified in the….media?
black people need to allow themselves to be helped and guided and all of us need to do that, without the negative blaming and getting victim-complexes.

    10. What you all that are blaming him resisting as his cause of death are utterly retarded. When someone resist you SUBDUE them. You don’t kill them. You match force not use excessive force. Then taunting the person shows he was being malicious and abusing his power. So yes the officers were 100% in the wrong. Another no we don’t need white people to speak for us but they need to stop sabotaging shit. The cops were wrong. And American people of color need to stop vilifying white people. People mostly live within their own bubble so teach them instead of chastising them for their lack of knowledge.

      1. im blaming many factors. and the cops were completely wrong. didnt say they werent. its horrible, the man didnt deserve to die, but the guy didnt die cause hes black. the story is out cause hes black.

      1. Black People get horny when they see a black kid kill a black kid and go make a song about it.

      1. Seriously she can’t relate. She was better off posting the incident and moving on.?‍♂️?‍♂️

    11. A few quick questions. 1. What happened between the time he was sitting there and on the floor? Why was that edited out? What was he being accused of? Has he ever been convicted of a felony? These facts matter.

    12. Its funny how so many whites can complain about her post and STILL NOT POST ABOUT GEORGE FLOYD. I’m convinced that some of yall will never get it.

      1. Its funny that she is part Asian and has absolutely nothing to say about the racism towards Asian people this year particularly by African American people punching, stabbing, spraying Fabreze, spitting on or ransacking shops and restaurants. It is quite scary that YOU STILL DON’T GET IT! George Floyd was a tragedy and the cops will be prosecuted but you don’t give a flying fuck about anybody else suffering in this World.

        1. The Asian people you’re referring to are still alive ain’t they? Same Asian that played crowd control while this man died, same kind of Asian cop (google Peter Liang if your nuts hang) that killed Akai Gurley, didn’t administer treatment, called his supervisor over calling the ambulance. Annnnnd, why did all this happen … your President pointed the finger at Asians and mercilessly, continuously called it the China virus. Didn’t see any mention of that in your post either. Coward heart beat loud and yours sound like Sasquatch feet … THUNDERING!

          1. Now that we are on the topic of stereotyping an entire race of people based on individual incidences, where is your mention of Kenneth Franklin raping and murdering Rina Shimabukuro in Okinawa, Japan? How about Alvin Thomas killing 2 Chinese men in a parking lot in Chicago? (since you are playing Google wars) Does this mean an entire race of people is to blame over individual deaths? You do you though and go spit on the faces of Asian and white people because they are responsible for deaths of people they don’t know on opposite sides of the country. Live and learn!

          2. 13. What happened to this man is a tragedy and the police officers involved should be prosecuted. But to automatically assume a cop who is negligent and incompetent to say the least is by default racist because of the skin colour of himself and the victim is ridiculous. This was not some racist attack! It was a bunch of shitty cops who deserve to be in jail. People act like white people dont die in custody lol. None of this is ok regardless of skin colour. Notice how the media only choose to show the black victims of these Incidents because it perpetuates their narrative to seed division.

      1. I definately see the point your making. There is substance to it. Its just that the incidence of such deaths happening amongst Black people is far higher to the point of being incomparable and the fact that racially motivated killings are well documented in history provide ample reasons for the Police officers to be measured in their approach. Lest we also forget that there is nothing about law enforcement that provides for the killing of unarmed, handcuffed, subdued and outnumbered civilians.

      2. Although I see what your trying to prove here. I highly doubt if that was a white man that he would’ve been treated like that. I don’t think he intentionally killed him but he definitely had no regard for him as a human and that resulted in him killing him. I know that race card gets thrown around so much it can seem exhausting but in this case I’d bet this was a direct result of him being black.

    14. God bless Aoki’s soul for being bold enough to tackle a hard truth that no-one wants to talk about. I’m going to this opportunity to include anybody else who identifies as black but is not taking action. To be silent is to be complicit. Let’s all take action and speak out.

      1. Did Rachel Dolezal get her bravery together to say anything? Or is she too busy being sued for welfare fraud? I’m getting tired of these rich privileged people telling us what they think. Especially when it’s divisive comments like she made about her non black friends. If aren’t black you aren’t allowed to say anything because “you can’t relate”. Instead of looting and rioting why don’t people get into politics and law enforcement and make the changes you claim you want. Or maybe stop listening to mainstream media who don’t know what a common person of any skin color goes through.

        1. I hear your point about entering into politics and law enforcement but the powers that be have a hold on those areas that would still force people to a grassroots movement and fight because they won’t allow for change. If you go into the police force they’ll only maintain a certain quota of minorities so you won’t have enough support if you try to make calls for reforms. If you try to make waves as a small group in the force, you’ll get fired. If you venture into politics, you’re dealing with a straight jacket. If you try to change a system that’s set in its ways they cut your head off. We have examples, Martin Luther King, Malcom X etc. Get the picture. The fight starts from the ground up. No surrender and no retreat till you get what you want.

          1. In order to get what you want you have to do these small changes to get that. I don’t where you get the idea that there is this quota of minorities to get into the police force. Would like to know your source for that. If you out in the work to get in, you get in. Martin Luther King Jr and Malcom X are great examples. I’m happy you brought them up. It was also Malcom X who warned of the Democrat party that Black Americans are still voting for en mass. Even though they have failed them time and time again. I bright up Rachel Dolezal because she said she was black but really isn’t. Just a fun fact to see if anyone is paying attention to the lies, and the blatant pandering the Democrat party uses to get votes that they think are owed to them. Thanks for the well thought out response. We can at least have a good conversation even if we don’t agree on everything.

    15. I thought girls her age and sometimes boys buy that makeup which looks like paint in different colours. it’s like, oh I think I will be a white girl next Tuesday they apply it all over their bodies. I understand this to be either race related politically etc… or a fad. people in the seventies did it. heaven forbid it is supposed to be an aphrodisiac. if so, ewe.

    16. Man I see so many white people in these comment sections trying to make excuses and dance around this shit. Stop trying to prove your lame ass points about black on black violence or some other case in buttfuck Egypt about some white family. This isn’t your time. This isn’t that case. All you are doing is looking like a dumb ass and a racist. And before anyone starts crying I’m not black. If I can grasp this so can you.

      1. Man fuck these white boys…that’s all they ever do….the point won’t get across because that’s what they do, time and time again. I’m learning that actual violence and fighting back is the key to winning freedom…freedom wasn’t begged for during the wartimes, it was fought for. Fuck these folks and go riot. I might sound all crazy, but if you just read it intelligently, you’ll see what I am trying to say…peace!l

        1. You dumb motherfuckers. Yea o riot and destroy all your shit just like ferguson and Baltimore…except it was other blacks shit dumbasses. People like you never admit the statistics and act like white ppl are the boogeymen. Black ppl kill black ppl, white ppl kill white ppl and police don’t care they’ll kill you either way. But read a book, or some facts.

      2. Police kill more whites than blacks each year. Either way them motherfuckers need to be held accountable

    17. This shit is heartbreaking, I’m not ADOS or even American but this shit right here isn’t right. It’s not justifiable.

    18. For the 10000000th time, yes black on black crime is a issue. Police brutality is also an issue, two different issues that both need addressed. The reason why we, the “black people”, speak out about Police brutality in particular is because too many times these officers get off with no repercussions. If a black man kills another black man, IF they catch him, he WILL go to prison for it, if not get killed himself right on the spot. Police? Shit….it’s 50/50, maybe 70/30, how is this hard to understand??

      1. No. They aren’t different issues friend. If you work at a zoo, and tigers are most likely to kill other animals, you, and other tigers, Logic would dictate that you would be more aggressive with tigers, and that tigers die more often. What happened to dude appears to be murder. I find it strange that the video is edited, we only see him sitting there, then on the floor with a knee on his neck. Them all being fired is a sign that they really messed up. They will all be charged I’m sure.

    19. Imagine if some white person called out her black friends for not speaking out on some white victim? That would be white supremacy right?

      1. I like when you guys try to reverse the the role, true sign of a closet racist, what problems you white folks have compared to black people, do other races look down on you no matter how intelligent you may be, or were your ancestors were taken away from their homes and stripped of their culture, or how bout white women being trained to hate their race, how bout being ridiculed over every advancement your race makes, you right it is a double standard that your white ass sites there blind to all the shit we go through, mad because you probably trash in a trailer being treated like shit

        1. And YOU are blind to reality buddy. Are you blind to what Native Americans go thru? How about Latinos or LGTBQ people? Most of the protesters nation wide are white dummy. Black women are trained to hate their race by men who cheat on them and a father who abandons them. EVERYONE’s ancestors were stripped from their home and robbed of their culture. UK had Vikings. Italy the moors. Christians and joos were slaves. You are an excuse making, sorry ass racist my friend. Everyone sees it for what it is. Maybe that’s why no one cares. Now go out there and work, get an education like the rest of us. Whitey isn’t your problem. Your mentality is.

          1. Ignorance is bliss. I do not usually do this but I’m willing to comment on this. Why us it when it comes to black people, men especially it always gets flipped around to other races, groups of people etc. We are talking about the unnecessary killings of innocent people because of the color of their skin. If white, purple, rainbow or any damn kind of color people are getting killed for no reason it would not be right!!! The problem is racists morons and ignorant as people don’t want to acknowledge the issue of unarmed black men getting killed. There are always stereotypes towards black people. I am a black woman I have my Bachelor of Science Degree in Paralegal studies and planning to go to law school. My parents were married and had four children and my father is in my life still today at 28 years of age. Black women are not the only ones who face dealing with cheaters, all women have at least faced this challenge ,so stop the stereotypes and focus on the issue at hand. Each and every soul in this world is different you can place a stereotype on every person of a certain race, sexuality, eigious group etc. When u assume you make an ass ojf of you and me. How would you feel if your brother, father, cousin, friend, uncle etc. was killed for nothing but the color of their skin? I lost my 16 year old brother due to a heart attack last year,I miss him dearly RIP baby. What I will tell u I do not condone violence I still have black brothers living and God forbid anything like this happens to them I would give CNN live a story to tell. If you do not like me for the color of my skin then do us all a favor and kiss my BLACK ass. All I can say is if you come for me and mine with that racist shit then you have another thing coming. I am knowledgeable in law and will protect me and mine by ALL means. This is ridiculous it’s a shame and this is supposed to be America where we are “free” when unarmed bkack people can get killed for chewing a damn burger the wrong way and the “defense” for that would be ” I felt threatened by the way he was chewing he could’ve had a gun hidden in his mouth”. As ridiculous of an analogy that is,is as riduculous as these “defenses” to these obvious crimes sound. May God have mercy on all the hating ass racists with malice in their hearts. May all the souls of the unarmed black men and women rest in peace, we will never forget your names.

          2. Again another person who is not black and probably never been around black communities or if he had any black friends you don’t listen to anything they say unless it’s some ignorant shit that makes your day, Native Americans at least are given land, casinos, all kind of tax breaks and medical, black people cant own a store outside their own neighborhood if they can even get that, we got Europeans moving to this country getting paid to to move here, I’m going to say this once, black folks if they dont want to give us our respect then we will take it from any and every race that looks down on us, stop befriending these rats that dont give a damn about your feelings, we need to stop accepting these other races into our culture just so they can get a quick bag, support yours

    20. fuck this mutt, disgusting result of race mixing. her mom is what we here in russia call ink bottles.

    21. Not every one is interested in being a human rights activist. It is OK to keep quiet, is not like running your mouth is gonna change anything. I mean they have been many instances(Trayvon Martin, etc) of police brutality previously, people whined, twitted and then went about their business like nothing happened.

    22. Waahhhh I have my daddies money and am a privileged spoiled loser like all those other kids. I used to feel the same way as these comments but y’all are pathetic. Since 1970 y’all went from 20% single mother rates to almost 75%…blame gang culture and all this “protect the criminals cuz they black”..start being actual CITIZENS and blaming whte ppl for your problems. Crybabies

      1. There are no single mothers in the Caucasian race raising simple minded boys unlike YOU? GOD FORBID there are gangs in the White Community…….Protect criminals????? APPARENTLY YOU AREN’T AWARE OF WHAT AN ACRYONYM MEANS MAGA…Oops Ask YO Single Mother ?

    23. so how many other black men were lost due to police intervention that night? the media picks and chooses something racist such as this to piss everyone off and have people divided. it ain’t the police, it ain’t black men, it is the media. and actually, I am getting a bit pissed myself the media should be put back in their place. the media in the u.s. should be neutral report the facts not have fox right wing and cnn left wing that does damage even moreso.

      1. If you watch both. You see the same story, but what you see is that one side cuts out more of it than the other.

    24. Crakkkers man! ask native american ask black ppl in europe ask aboriginal ask zulus and xhosas, ask the whole continent of africa, go ask Japanese ask arabs ask chinese ppl. and shit didn’t start yesterday. don’t @me wit ur bs talmbout wassup wit black on black violence? Stfu olready

    25. This whole situation is and continues to be a wake up call to all of us, not just people of color! There needs to be an ongoing conversation, for all of us, not just celebrities. So many of us don’t have a platform to speak out and be heard. Communities need to come together and keep this conversation going…WORLDWIDE! Not just, young folks, but especially people of color. We need to learn to love and respect one another, first of all. I am a 70 year black woman and I’ve experience just as much hatefulness or what have you, from my own kind…which is really sad. I’ve been around to witness the ugliness for a long time, not only from whites, but people who look like me. “I say let there be peace on earth and Let it begin in the Hearts/Souls each of us,
