Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial got underway in Washington D.C. this week after Democrats charged the disgraced former president of inciting violence at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6.
During the trial, Rep. Stacey Plaskett managed to inject some entertainment into the typically sterile affair by inserting lyrics from Run The Jewels and a Wu-Tang Clan member into her argument. On Wednesday (February 10), the U.S. Virgin Island delegate quoted RTJ’s “Early” and GZA’s “Breaker Breaker,” to the delight of Hip Hop fans everywhere.
“During my presentation in the impeachment trial yesterday, I made two references from the hip hop genre,” Plaskett tweeted. “‘The truth is usually seen and rarely heard’ from GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and ‘Truth is truth, whether denied or not,’ from Run the Jewels.”
Plaskett’s covert nod to Hip Hop is reminiscent of MSNBC news anchor Ari Melber, who routinely drops Hip Hop lyrics during his broadcasts. Last month, Melber spit a few lines from 21 Savage and J. Cole’s 2018 collaboration “a lot” while discussing Trump’s seemingly grim future.

Just like Melber, Plaskett not only caught the attention of Hip Hop fans but also the artists themselves. Shortly after the clip started making the rounds on Twitter, both El-P and GZA reacted on social media.
“welp apparently i was quoted during the impeachment trial today and i can’t say i didn’t see it coming,” El Producto wrote on Twitter. “Ok i didn’t see it coming.”
GZA simply shared the clip on Instagram and tagged @killermike and @runthejewels in the caption.
