Royce Da 5’9 Speaks On Eminem Wanting To Work With DJ Premier, “Success Is Certain”

With his Hell: The Sequel EP with Eminem hitting stores tomorrow, Royce Da 5’9 is hoping to put his partner-in-rhyme in touch with longtime collaborator DJ Premier. Speaking with Bootleg Kev, Nickel Nine said that Primo contributes to his upcoming solo album Success is Certain and that Em is open to working with the producer veteran.

“He only did that one, but he’s currently working on the single to the album called ‘Writer’s Block.’ He’s working on remixing that right now,” he said, turning the conversation towards Marshall working with Preem. “Yeah, everybody’s saying that, man. Everybody’s saying that. The crazy thing is, he’s not opposed to that at all. He’s a huge Preem fan.”

Touching on his final independent solo release Success is Certain (July 26th), the Detroit, Michigan rapper explained that it’s connected with his 2004 release Death is Certain, but not a sequel.

“It’s kind of like a spinoff of it. When I look back in retrospect, where I was at in my life at the time, it was a dark period in my life. Where I am now, it’s the exact opposite of where I was then. So it’ll have the same dark feel to it, but it’ll speak on triumph, overcoming adversity, the things I went through in the past. The content will be brighter, but it’ll still have that dark feel.”

After his solo album wraps up, he’s teaming with his Slaughterhouse members to lay down their Shady Records debut. “We got a lot of records done, and that’s actually about to be my complete focus, the Slaughterhouse album. Mine and Em’s. We gon’ get this project out and see what it does and shift gears pretty fast,” he said. “We definitely want to get it out this year, sometime towards the end of the year. That’s definitely the goal. We don’t have a date yet, but we did the first album in six days, so it’s not really a long process. It’s not something that’s going to take too much longer than it already has. Everybody’s wrapping up their prior obligations and getting them out of the way so we can focus.”

      1. Lol? If you’re saying that because you think I’m hating, I actually am a huge fan of Royce and Em. I’m just saying its getting kind of annoying.

      2. u would rather read articles about Drake and Gayne ??i dont think so…let them make articles about real dudes…

      3. Sigh. My point is royce talks about Em too much. Thats it. Not that they should put up articles on Drake or any whack mc.

      4. Did you stop to think it’s because he is in a group with Em, and because he has an album to promote right now?

      5. Royce got skillz but he suckin Feminem’s cock so much it’s sickening to see another nigga suckin up to this lame ass pop sellin white boy. Face it niggas, Feminem sucks now and Royce is nothing more than a glorified Uncle Tom wit good lyrics. BTW keep Feminem away from a Premo beat, he’ll ruin it with his emo crying rap.

        Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      6. fuck outta here with “he has an album to promote” the nigga cant keep Ems name outta his mouth n hasnt been able to since they became friends again dude personifies the term “GROUPIE”

its sad as fuck, dudes been corny as fuck since he started fuckin wit Em, ive supported him for 10 years n he’s changed the last 2

i’ll still listen to his music but im never payin for the shit again dudes turned into a cornball

      7. Yes i understand he has to promote his music but dont u think its gone outta hand? oh and rickrosstheboss u have no idea what ur talkin bout

    1. Bull crap!! Em has had several submitted Premier beats, and chose instead to rhyme over gay ass beats and collab with Rihanna, a pop tart that he would’ve dissed back in the day…

    2. Em’s House Negro says what?

Da 59 IQ hath spoken (after a White Boy said it was ok.)

      Fuck you, Slave.

      1. whoa, stereotypical angry black guy in the house huh… hey bud get a clue, the civil right movement was in the 60’s; since then, the last 20 yrs or so its actually been cool to be a black guy. no repirations for you my friend, i mean TOBY

      2. haha black celebrities been cool since the 20s. regular black people have never been, so shut the fuck up. no 18 year old white kids need to be dropping black history and reparation knowledge when you don’t got a clue. black people don’t have it as sweet as seen on tv you retard.
most of hip hop is porch monkeys. that’s why the industry is clinging on to this dying genre, not for the profit on itunes, but because white people get paid more the more black people look bad

      3. I’m white you ignorant fuck. When you’re wrong do you admit it and learn something? Or pretend it didn’t happen? Faggot.

      1. I was about to say me either, because em is more pop. but preem did work with aguilara and sold mega (I dont know the song tho, it might suck, fuck her and pop)

    3. Royce calls out Young Buck and Game in writer’s block…

“I’m about to fall out with Young Buck while I attempt to fuck the fucking game up.”

Game and Buck would destroy his old ass.

      1. Oh the kids these days, just don’t understand the lines so you hate. The line is this,

“Niggas be quick to call me the new 50 Cent because of my relationship with Marshall/ used to make me a little partial/ but here’s the brain-fuck/ we the same cuz, I’m probably about to fall out with a young buck while I attempt to fuck the fucking game up…”

If you need that explained, hold the hate till you figure it out.

      2. So you do need it explained…shocking. It’s called a play on words, he’s not actually calling out Young Buck or the Game.

      3. Alright, I’ll gonna be nice about this.

The word “game” has a long history, but it also refers to the rap “game.” All he’s saying is that he’s gonna start some beef with one of these young candy rappers (“fall out with a young buck”) and take over the rap game (“fuck the fucking game up”). It’s clever because he’s talking about it within the context of 50 Cent’s fall out with Young Buck and the Game since people like to compare Nickel and 50 just because of each of their relationships with Eminem.

      4. He’s saying he’s like 50, he’s having a falling out with a young buck (50 did have a falling out with young buck) but he means a young kid. someone else.
50 tried to fuck the fucking game up. royce says it meaning the rap game.
metaphorical comparisons to 50. not shots. those things transpired with 50.
young buck knows they had a falling out. game knows 50 tried to fuck him.
nothing offensive you fuck. why do you listen to rap if you don’t understand it?

      5. nick crookshank you pussy ass wanksta, u quick to jump on what u dont know, wack ass rap noob, understand the concept son, u wack

      6. Nick is a re-re. It’s always the dumbest people being loud when they don’t know what they’re talking about.

      7. @Heatitup thanks for schooling this dumbass, clearly he’s on the wrong site. To actually think Game or Young buck could murder Royce is just… Uuuuhhh. What’s next? Lil Boosie got more skills than Elzhi? Crookshank stick to that ringtone raps you blow all day on MTV little twit. Leave Boom Bap to the rest of us. Don’t ever post an opinion you have on a site like this without permission from a true hip hop head, Good look holdin’ down Soulja Boi. Effing Scrotal sac.

      8. heatitup….thank God that there are people like you to keep all these dumbed down music listeners in check…lol

    4. House Negro sold how many records solo? And how many chances did he have?

Keep swirlin’ your tongue on the tip of Em’s cock Royce, that is just the way your White Massa like it, boy.

Em says what? Move them puppet strings so Royce can speak!

      1. @Anonymous

U right nigga, Royce became an uncle Tom by suckin off Femineme so much. They ain’t a sentence I hear from this nigga that don’t mention him. Fuck Royce u got skillz but u don’t need to suck Feminem’s cock every damn second. Sad to see a nigga wit skills ride the white boys dick so hard.

        Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      2. WOW YOU ALL ARE MORONS….HALF THE MUSIC YOU ALL PROBABLY LISTEN TO BACK IN THE DAY ROYCE WAS WRITING….HE GHOSTWROTE FOR LIKE EVERYBODY….HE IS SECOND BEST IN MUSIC RIGHT NOW ONLY BEHIND EMINEM….F*CK ALL THE COMMERCIAL AND NURSERY RHYME MUSIC….RICK ROSS SUCKS, LILWAYNE SUCKS, JEEZY SUCKS, ALL OF YOUNG MONEY SUCKS, WAKA (NEED I SAY) SUCKS, ALL OF THESE NON INTELLIGENT, WORTHLESS, NURSERY RHYME RAPPERS SUCK….I AM NOT FOR DUMBING DOWN OUR MUSIC LIKE ALL OF YOU IGNORANT PEOPLE….I DONT GIVE A F*CK ABOUT HEARING UNEDUCATED RAPPERS RHYME THE LAST WORD OF EVERY LINE AND DO NOTHING COMPLEX WITH NO RHYMING SYLLABLES BETWEEN….YOU ALL ARE MORONS!!!!

    5. If you are friends with Eminem, putting out an album together, and just signed to his label of course he’s going to talk about him. Probably one of the first questions he gets asked in every interview. “Tell us about your relationship with Eminem?” If he was signed with Jay-Z and put out an album w/ him, who do you think he would be talking about?

    6. 2,3 years ago Eminem was a sucka for not putting his childhood friend Royce on. Now Eminem is putting Royce on and Royce is a Toby for talking about Eminem when he & Eminem have an album hitting retail stores this week.

    7. Man I have always wondered why em never did any joints with preemo during the 90’s. I think that this should of been done a long time ago…

    8. should’ve been 90s Em over Premo. At the very least Em with his Eminem Show flow. It’s too late now. It’s gonna be like M.O.P. the white boy version with Em screamin all over Premo’s beat.

    9. Don’t get me wrong though M.O.P. was dope. Em’s new IMA DOUBLE TIME EVERYTHING then end with some wack off beat punchline that he has to scream isn’t.

    10. Eminem & Premo together just doesn’t sound right, Eminem doesn’t use a heavy amount of samples like Premo does. Premo also is more jazz rap which is far from anything that Eminem has done. Eminem now definitely couldn’t spit over the beat he’s completely done after three bad albums in a row.

      1. Yeah, completely done after selling millions of records and winning awards for thos albums, call it a day for that has been

        *Rolls Eyes*

      2. He has only Had ONE bad album….”Relapse”. Recovery was possibly his BEST EVER….If not second to marshall mathers lp. Eminem is the BEST BY FAR and Royce is Second just like implied by royce on Hell the sequel…That is all

    11. I think 90’s Em with Premo would sound kinda like Scary Movies, I’d still like to see what it sounds like nowadays though.

    12. royce da 5’9″ is the best lyricist in the game especially when he’s not on the same track as eminem. he tends to fool around when em is on the track.
