Royce Da 5’9 Celebrates Eminem’s Sobriety Birthday

Eminem hit a major milestone on Friday (April 20) when he celebrated 10 years of sobriety. Fellow Bad Meets Evil MC Royce Da 5’9 took to Twitter to congratulate Em on his accomplishment.

“Happy sobriety birthday to my mentor @Eminem,” he wrote. “Keep fighting the good fight homie … I love you for life.”

In 2007, the Detroit rap goliath nearly died from an accidental drug overdose. During a 2011 interview Rolling Stone, Em opened up about the severity of his addiction.

“On the Anger Management 3 tour [in 2005], I was fucked up every night,” he said. “I was taking so many pills that I wasn’t even taking them to get high anymore. I was taking them to feel normal. Not that I didn’t get high. I just had to take a ridiculous amount. I want to say in a day I could consume anywhere from 40 to 60 Valium. And Vicodin … maybe 20, 30? I don’t know. I was taking a lot of shit.”

Em checked himself into rehab in 2008 and started working a 12-step program.

In the years since, Shady has released several albums addressing his experience with drug addiction, including 2009’s Relapse and 2010’s Recovery. On his most recent album, Revival, Em details the night he almost overdosed on the song “Arose.” [apple_news_ad type=”any”]

    1. This 40 year old negro really called this white man who is barely older than him his “mentor”. He has eminem’s name saved in his phone as “GOAT” too. smh This man is a fucking clown.

      1. i know what an asshole for revitalizing 5’9’s career and helping him sell to the mainstream. white man holding royce back he coulda did it on his own!

    2. I think 10 years of sobriety when you’re that close to death and horribly addicted is incredible. We need more of this.

    3. What’s wrong with him saying Em was his mentor? They’ve been partners for over 20yrs! Em has helped when he could and let him do his thing when the time came. Ain’t nothing wrong with acknowledging his(Em’s) importance in his life and career. Some of you need to learn the importance of humiliy and quit letting racism cloud your judgement.

    4. I for one hope Em gets back on them drugs for a little bit so we can get another classic cd instead of what he’s put out lately

      1. I agree, what a bunch of pussies being sober and shit. I don’t think Eminem ever even really did all those drugs, it was just part of his character that he stole from Cage (who actually did that shit and was even in looney bin).

    5. I don’t think that his falloff has anything to do with sobriety. He really fell off and started sucking before he stopped doing drugs anyway.
I think he actually fd up his brain too much in the early days.
Should have slowed down earlier in my opinion but that is what happens when you just don’t give a fck. A day late and a dollar short.

His last album that he was still on drugs was actually decent compared to lately in all fairness.

IT’s really just that the young kids that laughed at his jokes at the time and liked him so much have all grown up and gotten over it.

And now the modern idiot kids can’t follow it. He is out of touch with the kids now.
No little punks want to hear a responsible older white man tell them not to do drugs and be a stand up citizen.
      That shit wouldn’t sell then.
especially now that all of the kids want unintelligible songs about nothing by tallness artists. Nothing has changed.

Most people are stupid and want to hear stupid shit and are fine with it.

      wocket in my pocket-all day

    6. This hip hop site has the nastiest group of anti-Eminem retards posting comments that I’ve ever seen. Can’t you be happy for a man who overcame a horrible drug addiction 10 years ago? And happy for the fact he was able to help Royce 5’9” out of his? Seriously ya’ll need to grow up.

    7. LMAO Royces praise and love for em is mad suspect to me. 10 years sober and 10 years of straight TRASH musically. even that trump freestyle was ass. it was so wack trump didn’t even respond and we know he LOVES to hear himself talk / tweet. you might need to atleast a maintainable amount of pills to get ya mojo back homie. you’ve been a pop artist for the past ten years.
