Genius Releases Debut Album “A ’98 Story”

After a heap of anticipation fueled by a few buzzworthy leaks, ATL’s own Genius dropped his debut album, A ’98 Story, on Friday (January 12). As Rare Sound’s official DJ, he’s been steadily building his name with well-received collaborative projects like 2016’s A East Side Story and last year’s A Come Up Story.

His inaugural solo album — a reference to his 1998 immigration from Jamaica to Atlanta — aims to officially put his name on the map. The project features artists like Kap G, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Eearz, Money Man, Sy Ari Da Kid, Ray Jr. and more.

Two years in the making, the 15-song project also features the track “One Year Later” with K Camp and Sonny Digital, which was released last year.

Production-wise, things are mostly held down by in-house Rare Sound producers Bobby Kritical and Musik Majors with a little help from names like DJ Plugg and JV.

    1. No u didn’t…NO BITING…no 1 rule in hip hop. What a chump, he’s just as bad as Young Guru (REAL G.U.R.U R.I.P)…this is getting ridiculous…who’s next Two Pac? There’s probably a new group coming out called Woo Tangg KKKlan. This nu generation is full of dumb fux.

    2. Dude. Seriously? How does HHDX even humor this? Are we going to have a new Phantom Faced Killer álbum coming out? Maybe the Ressusitator? Ability man?

    3. Lol y’all childish….I haven’t heard of this dude ever and I rock with Wu back to 96 but tripping over “Gza” vs “Genius” is stupid. Like Genius was some made up name and wasn’t in the dictionary.

      1. Childish? C’mon SON, why can’t he just come up with his own name though? Oh, right, originality within the “rap” community is nonexistent.

        1. I swear, when I bring up G-Eazy biting off Eazy-E’s name, people get mad and say he didn’t bite off him. It’s so painfully obvious.

    4. Has this guy never heard of Gza aka GENIUS. SMH. hip hop is terrible these days. These guys shouldn’t even get a shot. I wouldn’t even give it a chance. It’s either this or Maxo Cream. Lmao. No in between

    5. Why this guy chose to name himself after the rap lyrics w e b s i t e is beyond me. I hope at least he’s getting well compensated for the product placement.

    6. Kanobeen killing the grime scene as a solo artist idiot. That’s like saying “2 chainz was part of playerz circle. They had a hit over 10 years ago!” You see where I’m going with this? Do your research twerp

    7. Hi guys! I’m a new rapper by the name of Rakim. Please give my album some shine on this website too, when it drops! You guys really seem to know a lot about Hip-Hop. Thanks! The 18th Letter

    8. WTF Bobby Kritical too? What’s next “Johnny Glaze”? “Lou Deamon”? “Tony Sparks”? “Rollie Toes”? or my favorite “Folding Arms”? SMH
