Queen Latifah Thinks Some Rappers Have Gone “Soft”

Queen Latifah stopped by Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning show this week and covered some of the many high points of her nearly 30-year career. The show opened up with talk of Latifah’s latest film, Girls Trip, which also features her Set It Off co-star Jada Pinkett Smith.

While she may not be a household name among today’s youth, the culture is dear to the New Jersey star. The veteran rapper, actor and executive shared some insights on Hip Hop as it currently stands, while also challenging rising artists to use their voice.

“I feel like a lot of rappers, they lost they balls, they got soft,” Latifah said. “When things are going on in the world, like with Trump or elections, this was the stuff we [rap artists] chewed on.”

Latifah also revealed she hasn’t abandoned Hip Hop, but wants to see diversity and innovation return to the music.

Earlier in the interview, Latifah spoke about joining Remy Ma and several other women rappers of her era such as MC Lyte, Rah Digga, The Lady of Rage, Monie Love, Cardi B, Lil Kim and more at Hot 97’s Summer Jam in June.

Coincidentally, that moment took place ahead of Remy’s “SHEther” performance, but Latifah shot down any connection to Ma’s feud with Nicki Minaj. Latifah added that women in Hip Hop should remain unified in an attempt to bring balance to the male-dominated industry.

    1. We can’t be hard without saying “bitch” or “hoe” which you prohibited rappers from doing Ms. Latifah!

    2. Says the one who was first a rapper and then a singer. Do i need to say more ms Owens?

      1. SAYS HER BANK ACCOUNT!!!! DO I NEED TO SAY MORE MR. BROKE SORRY ASS!!!! LOLOLOL!!!! GTFOH!!!!

        1. Wooow.. You really must be a fan of hers since you are willing to fight her battles.. Haha. You probably broke as well. Punk ass..

    3. She is the head of Flavor Unit, gained a nomination for a grammy, another for the Oscars, worked as a TV Host and won the Golden Globe and is a fine singer too. Tragically, there (still) are a lot of immature male ignorants out there.

      1. You mean the same Flavor Unit that has not had one lick of success in over 20 years? The Same Flavor Unit that was considered the hip-hop equivalent of the black hole when it comes to active management companies?

        1. C’mon, she did pave the way for women in this industry! Who runs a management or company succesfully from the start-up without it’s flaws? And she was even more successful as an actress in the last 15 years and won awards in a row!
Who would have heard about Naughty by Nature anyway? Grow up, or this mission failed already.
