Playboi Carti is getting active in his direct messages, where he has fired off messages taunting Frank Ocean about previewing some new music.

On the heels of the elusive Ocean teasing a snippet on Thursday (December 7), Carti slid into his DMs over the weekend daring him to repost the unreleased clip.

“Twin post a snippet or some if it’s up den it’s up? Wat? U scared,” he wrote. He then posted a screenshot of the private message to his Instagram Story.

It’s unclear why Carti went after his “RAF” collaborator; but posting DMs appears to be part of a rollout toward a project of his own. As of posting time, Ocean left the DM unread.

Frank Ocean’s recent in-studio footage could be a sign that he’ll be releasing new music for the first time since 2020.

The teaser finds Ocean messing around in the studio with Olaolu Slawn’s son, Beau. The video then transitions to the Blonde singer head-bobbing and flexing his muscles to sounds of his latest creation, which features him harmonizing over a slice of warm production.

Frank Ocean’s last album Blonde was released in 2016, while his most recent material arrived in 2020 in the form of the singles “Dear April” and “Cayendo.”

An unreleased song called “These Days” leaked online earlier this year after reportedly being purchased by a leaker for $6,200. Frank acknowledged its existence by sharing the correct lyrics in an Instagram comment.

As for Carti, he’s been teasing a project tentatively titled Music for over a year and looks to finally be in album mode, with some help from Pharrell.

On Friday (December 8), the mysterious “Magnolia” rapper unleashed a new song titled “Different Day” with an accompanying video.

The visual features him lip-syncing the lyrics to his heavily processed vocals — “I can’t trust my eyes/ How do I see?” — while standing by his car in a parking lot, holding a cigarette.

The upload immediately sent the internet into a frenzy, with the 27-year-old’s fans and fellow musicians alike expressing their support for his reemergence. Soon after the song went live, Carti took to his Instagram Stories to reshare shoutouts from Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Nav, Destroy Lonely and Ken Carson, among others.
