Canadian battle rap vet Pat Stay was laid to rest at Arbor Memorial on September 11, roughly one week after his was fatally stabbed in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The memorial service was livestreamed on YouTube, giving fans unable to attend the funeral in-person access to the solemn affair. Much like Stay’s vivacious personality, the nearly 90-minute service was filled with humor. As attendees filed through the door, Stay’s Game diss blared over the speakers and lended some comedic relief.
From there, several of his friends and family took the podium to share a few words about Stay. Perhaps the most moving was a tearful eulogy from Stay’s young step-daughter who called him the “nicest and funniest guy” she’d ever met.
Stay called out The Game for his attempt to bait Eminem with “The Black Slim Shady” diss track via Instagram in August.
The text at the top of the post read: “Dear Slim I Wrote You But You Still Ain’t Callin,” a nod to Em’s 2000 song “Stan” about an obsessed fan. In the caption, Stay condemned “The Black Slim Shady” and suggested he was disappointed in his actions.
He also challenged him to a battle, writing, “You seem very eager to battle. Specifically a ‘white boy.’ Well why don’t you do a real battle and come see me. We can do it in LA. Yeah, you’re way bigger than me in the music world, of course.”
But Pat Stay never got the chance. Instead, he was killed at The Yacht Club Social in Halifax on the morning of September 4. According to Global News, 31-year-old Adam Drake was arrested in Tantallon September 10 on charges of first-degree murder.
A tweet from reporter Graeme Benjamin included video of Drake walking into court in 2019 in connection to another shooting death.
“Adam Drake is now facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection with Pat Stay’s homicide,” Benjamin wrote. “Here he was entering court in 2019, after being charged in the 2016 shooting death of Tyler Keizer. Those charges were withdrawn last year.”
Fellow battle rap vet Lush One spoke to HipHopDX on Monday (September 19) and revealed he’s planning a fundraiser and memorial for Pat Stays’ family in Los Angeles on November 5 in partnership with his battle rap league GTX.
Lush One confirmed to DX it will feature appearances from “some of the biggest names in battle rap culture.”

White on white crime. Stop the white violence!
I hate darkies.
…especially from south Asian countries, yuck.
So you will be remembered for dissing a man for another man who could care less about you. Corny
A. He was a huge figure in the battle rap scene which is likely what he’ll be remembered for. B. All the Game does is diss other men that could care less about him. That and being a cornball are the main things The Game will remembered for.
Like how Eminem dissed Michael Jackson, who didn’t even know he existed?
No, Pat wasn’t an industry rapper…but he was on stages world wide on battle rap…he faced some real mc’s, some of the best the battle world had to offer and stood tall…his delivery, crowd control and composure showed through.
