Nicki Minaj gave conservative commentator Ben Shapiro the attention he was looking for after he criticized her Sexyy Red collab “Pound Town 2” on his show.
On a recent episode of his self-titled show, Shapiro did a dramatic reading of the song’s lyrics and made jabs about the lyrical content.
“‘Pound Town 2’ is the sequel. More pounding,” he joked. “‘Pound Town 3’ has I assume has Ewoks because this has Nicki Minaj in it.”
Before launching into the lyrics, he added, “I’m hesitant to read these lyrics out loud.”

When the clip came across Nicki Minaj’s timeline, she retweeted it with a rolling eyes GIF and added, “[My alter-ego] Roman said leave his ass out of it sir! No pun intended.”
Of course Shapiro couldn’t resist issuing a response, and a short back and forth ensued.

“Not possible, @NICKIMINAJ, since you have apparently never recorded a song that left your ass out of it,” he wrote, to which she responded, “Next time I’ll be sure to add my dick. So you can suk it. Love you.”
Ben replied: “Surprise twist: @NICKIMINAJ was the one with the anaconda all along.” The exchange ultimately ended there with just a retweet from Minaj with a confused face GIF.
Sexxy Red performed the raunchy hit as part of Uproxx “Sessions” and even explained that there are rules to venturing into Pound Town.
According to Sexyy Red, “Condoms are a must, the tongue has to get involved, leave your morals at the door, there’s no nuttin’ allowed. And make sure you wash first because no one wants to deal with the smells before things get wild.”

As for Nicki Minaj, she is gearing up to drop her first album in nearly five years, recently announcing the release date to her forthcoming fifth studio LP.
After releasing a string of one-off singles in the years since 2018’s Queen, Minaj will finally give her Barbz what they’ve been waiting for later in 2023.
“10/20/23 The Album,” she announced in a well-received tweet earlier this month.
Queen arrived in August 2018 and featured appearances from Eminem, Foxy Brown, Future and more. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 185,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.
In 2019, Nicki Minaj released the platinum-selling one-off single “Megatron,” followed by both the Lil Baby-assisted “Do We Have A Problem” and the record-breaking “Super Freaky Girl” in 2022. She’s also recorded a handful of high-profile collabs, including the recent chart-topper “Princess Diana” with Ice Spice – which led to Minaj becoming the rapper with the most No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart.

As she began her album rollout in 2023, she dropped the teaser single “Red Ruby (Da Sleeze)” as a warm-up in March. She later promised that this will be her best year yet with her upcoming album and tour, vowing to “raise the bar to new & unreachable heights.”
As part of a recent Twitter conversation with her Barbz, the rapper proclaimed that the tentatively-titled NM5 will be the “best thing that comes out of 2023” and that it will be hailed as “genius.”
