This week’s New Music Friday feels like Christmas come early thanks to a stocking’s full of musical gifts from some of rap’s finest, past and present.
Leading the bill is Nas and DJ Premier‘s decades-in-the-making joint album Light-Years, which not only strengthens their legacy as one of hip-hop’s greatest rapper-producer duos but closes out Mass Appeal Records’ epic Legend Has It… series.
Extending his own prolific run in recent years, 21 Savage returns with What Happened to the Streets?, a star-studded State of the Union address featuring Drake, Lil Baby, Metro Boomin, GloRilla, Latto and more.
Not to be overshadowed, Conway The Machine continues to prove he’s larger than life with his majestically-titled new project You Can’t Kill God With Bullets. No Griselda features on this one, but guest spots from Roc Marciano, G Herbo and Tony Yayo make up for it.
Elsewhere, Max B and Pooh Shiesty celebrate their respective releases from prison with new music, Bun B and Statik Selektah show no signs of slowing down with their fifth TrillStatik album which was recorded in a single day, and Nas-approved newcomer Chris Patrick capitalizes on his recent viral “Mafiathon 3” freestyle with a new EP called Pray 4 Me.

Ya. Disappointed. Wanted vintage preemo beats. Although Nas lyrically killed it.
Nas and DJ Premier finally delivered after 30 years of “we’ll do it when I’m dead” nonsense. 21 Savage’s album is basically a rap holiday gift from the devil. Conway The Machine? Still trying to prove he’s a god with a bulletproof jacket. And Pooh Shiesty? Oh, that’s just a prison release playlist with zero soul. This week’s New Music Friday is like a cult meeting with a bad Wi-Fi connection.
Nas – NY State of Mind pt 3 might be the worst beat I’ve ever heard
Nas and Premier album is incredible!!! This is grown man rap and evolution of an artist and producer! Preemo and Nas delivered for sure! 4.5 stars
Nas & Premo, that’s the biggest event of the week, I was a bit leery of the beats on here, but as I continued to listen, i realized it’s channeling the NY Boom Bap sound, which premier helped architect with his beats….Nas has the lyrics for it to smooth it out, I think I had to realize the sound they’re producing and I love it….
Conway’s album is another banger, i enjoyed from front to finish as the Nas/Premo album.
21 Savage album is enjoyable also…but comes in 3rd due to my preferences in hip hop.
4th, i don’t have a 4th. The Nas album i’ll agree with “The Ice Cold Phenom” it’s a solid 4.5!
oh, trillstatik, dope album, but i will not be paying for it. too much for just maybe 30 minutes.
