Ne-Yo Doesn’t ‘Understand’ Why Kids Are Allowed To Undergo Gender Transition

Ne-Yo has mused about “kids today” thinking differently than he did when he was growing up — and then touched on the controversial topic of gender transitioning.

During an interview with Gloria Velez for her podcast — which was subsequently aired on VladTV on Saturday (August 5) — the “Miss Independent” singer revealed that he doesn’t agree with children being able to do what he referred to as “choosing their genders.”

“If your little boy comes up to you and says, ‘Daddy I wanna be a girl,’ you just let him rock with that? Where did he get that?” Ne-Yo said. “If you let this five-year-old little boy eat candy all day, he’s gonna do that. Like, when did it become a good idea to let a 5-year-old, a 6-year-old, a 12-year-old make a life-changing decision? When did that happen? Like, I don’t get that. I don’t understand that.”

Velez then talked about the process of gender transitioning, saying that she didn’t agree with puberty blockers or “cutting off his pee-pee,” to which Ne-Yo replied: “He can’t drive a car, but he can decide to change his sex?”

    Check out the interview below:

With his comments, Ne-Yo may have subjected himself to a similar backlash that Boosie Badazz faced back in 2020, when he decided to speak his mind on Dwyane Wade’s 12-year-old transgender daughter, Zaya.

Following the retired NBA legend’s Good Morning America interview where he and his family further hammered home their support of Zaya, a visibly frustrated Boosie appeared to halt his gym workout to vent on Instagram.

“I gotta say something about this shit,” he fumed. “Dwyane Wade, you’ve gone too fucking far, bro. That is a male. A 12-year-old. At 12, they don’t even know what they next meal gonna be. They don’t have shit figured out yet. He might meet a woman at 16 and fall in love with her, but his dick be gone.”

Subsequently, Boosie clarified his comments, claiming that he has no issue with the LGBTQIA+ community.

“I got gay people around me,” he said. “I ain’t got nothing against no gay people. I got gay people [who] work for me. I got gay people in my family. All I said [about Zaya] was don’t do that, man. I ain’t even say it. But that’s all I said, man.”

That said, however, Ne-Yo has previously shown support for the LGBTQIA+ community — including transgender women — as well, telling TMZ in 2018 that it was time for Hip Hop to embrace transgender models, after Travis Scott received backlash for editing out a transgender model from the Astroworld album cover.

    1. 385, 000 children born a day. I believe the statistic for early gender transformation is around 1,000 a year in America. I may not necessarily agree with minors transitioning before puberty but the amount of idiots feeding into this controversy without seeing actual numbers is fucking insane to me. The dumb have truly inherited the earth. Meanwhile no one has a place to live or food to eat but yes let’s spend our time worrying about the most minuscule percentile of people transitioning instead of addressing any of that. We all going extinct.

      1. You’re an idiot because the goal is to increase that number if you don’t read the propaganda. If you think that number will remain fixed you are a transgender yourself probably, acting like you can’t rhink.

      2. So by not reading the propaganda it’s increasing that number, which is the goal? What are you even saying? Looks like you got some rhinking to do, OJ. This is a perfect example of why lack of funding for education is more of a concern here.

      3. I could not agree with you more. This is way too much about nothing…we are very very very disprportionlly focused on transgender issues when they represent less than 1 in 10,000 of ALL AMERICANS. Whereas we all need fresh food, air, and water yet if you bring thos issues up you are labeled “crazy” and a “liberal”. We have a former President ry and execute a coop that involved members of US Congress, Fed judges, US Supreme court justices etc. How about we worry about how we will grow food with global warming and lets stop worrying about the medical issues of a very very very small minority of of population.

      4. We are focused on it because they want us to be. This subject matter shouldn’t even be on most websites but here we are discussing it on a hip hop site. They don’t focus on the other things because they have nothing to do with degrading morals and shaping the minds of humanity. It is and always has been a minority community but they are being put on a pedestal now because as humanity is going from bad to worse…..tik tok tik tok!

      1. Some people cut their balls off. Other people are born without balls, like you. It’s nature.

    2. Isn’t it strange a kid can change gender? But can’t drink..smoke and too young to have sex. But can make a life changing decision that will affect the rest of their life. That doesn’t make any sense..it’s just weird.

    3. Transitioning should be illegal until 21.
No nightlife people should be reading to kids, including drag queens/kings

Leave the kids alone. MAGA is gon win and destroy this country for good all because people on the left didn’t know when to quit.

    4. I am a transgender woman, and while you may assume that’ll start encouraging people to boycott Ne-Yo, I won’t, because it’s understandable that he was basing his comments on the deliberate misinformation about Transgender people by the far right. There are 2 misconceptions about transgender people:

      1. Children do not undergo any form of medical transitioning. In the US, a person needs to be 18 or over to get sex reassignment surgery. For people below the age of 18, they see a therapist who diagnosises them with gender dysphoria: a diagnosis characterized by distress caused by their gender identity being different from the sex they were assigned at birth. Sometimes minors with gender dysphoria may be prescribed puberty blockers until they are phycologically confident that they want to transition.

      2. Most people think that every person diagnosed with gender dysphoria mandatory has to get hormone replacement therapy and sex reassignment surgery. Not true, these are personal choices, same goes for puberty blockers, most transgender people do not undergo hormones and surgery, as that discretion belongs to the patient, and is not forced.

Also, for those of you who don’t know how sex reassignment surgery is performed, in transgender women the only thing that’s removed are the testicles, everything else is tucked in and there’s no “chopping.”

I think that instead of listening to fearmongering and politics, we should be informed and treat each other with respect.
