The third and final memorial for George Floyd, the 46-year-old black man killed at the hands of Minnesota police on May 25, was held at the Fountain of Praise church in Houston on Tuesday (June 9). Ne-Yo, who attended the service and performed a song, is now facing criticism after referring to Floyd as a “sacrifice.”
“50 states are protesting at the same time, this man changed the world,” he said. “I just want to thank George Floyd for the sacrifice so my kids can be alright. I appreciate the sacrifice, I really do.”
Following his speech, Ne-Yo got visibly emotional when he sang Boyz II Men’s 1991 hit “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” in honor of the 46-year-old Floyd.
Even so, Twitter immediately pounced on Ne-Yo for his seemingly insensitive remarks. Many people couldn’t believe he would say such a thing, while others just implored celebrities to keep their mouths shut.
Check out the reactions below.
I don’t see anything wrong with what he said.
George Floyd sacrificed his life so that Joe Biden and the Democrats could vastly improve their chances of winning the presidential election, after all the sheeple get riled up about racism and blame Trump for what’s happening with blacks being killed by presumably racist police officers and all the riots and civil unrest nationwide which were provoked by this latest incident, since Trump is supposedly a racist white supremacist who emboldened white racists across the country after being elected president in 2016.
Another Trumptard who claims life vastly improved due to a man we collectively called a mean, bigoted, retard when he was on a reality show but now that he’s president he’s a genius lmao
Lmao!
Pretty sure while he was a reality star he was rubbing elbows with people that turned into detractors like Snoop and Eminem. Police operate on a local or state level, Trump didn’t encourage anything. Treyvon Martin happened during the Obama administration and that guy was set free.
Shit is a clown show. They never knew the dude. Dude was a criminal and never have anything valuable to society.
Who cares about the fact that he wasn’t a clean living individual. This shouldn’t be so hard to understand (but some of you all are so scared of the police and authority figures, so I get why you guys never look at issues from a perspective of right/wrong, morally). He didn’t deserve to die, period. Don’t care if he had a record, affiliated with the wrong people, etc. At that moment in time he did nothing to warrant his death. That’s what the outrage/support is about. Recognizing that there needs to be some serious changes in many departments all over the U.S.
Blue thought, why do the cops need to change and not the criminals? Lol this pandering to a dead criminal is why shit never seriously changes. All of this ‘police brutality’ is happening by large in blue states run by blue failures. If Democrats claim to be all about uplifting minorities, why are their cities full of crimes involving minorities and confrontations with cops? They can’t get their shit together in Minneapolis after nearly 50 years of Dem control. Really! Stop and think about who is the problem here. I’ll give you a hint. It’s not white supremacy or cops.
What law did George break that warranted his death? If you cannot see that a man died for no reason at all that’s your problem, I don’t have time for all that other Dem vs Rep bull you’re throwing around. The cops that abuse their authority need to be held accountable, it’s as simple as that. This is not about simply looking out for “criminals”. You yourself just stated that police brutality happens by large in blue states, then end your paragraph by not including them on the list of those who’re being (and have been) problematic.
from which rock did ne-yo crawl out from?
Everyone on social media is so quick to be someones judge. He obviously misspoke and even that being the case how many times have you heard people say “because of Emmitt Till’s sacrifice…”. Of course neither one of them asked to be murdered but its a way of saying that their deaths had meaning and weren’t for nothing.
Bingo.
Firstly… And i can’t stress this enough… No grown adult gives a flying pubic follicle what Twitter thinks of anything. The site is a colostomy bag. Secondly… BLM need to stop telling people to “speak up” if they can’t listen to an opinion without trying to please it. Ne-Yo’s statement doesn’t touch any of the social media approved mental illness I’ve seen out there. This entire thing has been nothing short of ridiculous and has shown just how full of shit everyone is.
He held a gun to a pregnant woman’s stomach. The guy was a total piece of shit.
I understand what he is trying to say to be honest. Georges death might help things move forward. As long as people do their part. It’s sad that it happened and should never have happened. But hopefully it will bring a change. Both sides have to hold up the mirror.
When will twitter learn that they don’t really give a damn about celebrities and what they have to say. Many just want something to be mad about. Don’t understand why madness excites them so much. Ne-Yo used a poor choice of a word with “sacrifice”, but I get what he was trying to say. First they wanted to hear from celebrities, pressuring them to speak out, now that they don’t like what they hear, they ramble smh. This is why celebs hesitate to say anything (or release statements), because many of us are too damn sensitive.
Seriously, no one cares about Floyd’s death anymore. At this point it has become an election tool that will backfire on dems. 10% of people would have protested had the C19/qurentine shit not have happened. It IS sad. A 5 time felon was trying to pass a stolen check and was ruthlessly murdered by a cop. Everyone is talking about how dude was trying to “start his life over” and overlooking them felony he was committing. Not that that gave the cop the right to kill him. Trump is going to BBQ Biden over the flames of the cities that have defended the police. Watch.
Why are you on here?! Seriously! If you hate Black folks so much… why are you on here!? Individuals like you keeps us Black folks motivated. Your negative impact gives us energy. So… thank you very much!
Your negativity is the very thing that keeps this ignorance, arrogance and idiotic attitude thriving in the country. You have little faith, belief or trust in anything and as the saying goes; “Misery loves company”. You don’t like yourself and want everyone to feel the same about you. Well, I don’t dislike you but feel extremely sorry for you.
This criminal MOFo had like five funerals and a president like JFK only had one. This world is a joke. Honoring a dude that lived his life in sin and died being a sinner. Now more minorities had their lives ruined due to organized riots and looting done largely by white liberals lol. Newsflash: this isn’t about GF. This is a attempt to destroy America and destabilize us. Idiots are so blind. Thanks for ruining innocent lives, assholes.
Your welcome friend see you on the battle field??
