Nas Teases Summer Album Release

Fans may not have to wait much longer for the next Nas album. In a new interview with the New York Times, the Mass Appeal Records founder hinted at a summer release date for his 12th solo LP.

“We coming this summer, baby!” he said. “It’s going to be a hot summer up here, man!”

When asked specifically about the album’s status, Nas confirmed it was not done. Elsewhere in the article, which was published on June 5, Nas also mentioned he’s always “two weeks away from finishing.”

The anticipation for Nas’ project has been high ever since the release of DJ Khaled’s 2016 track “Nas Album Done.” The song’s title obviously led to speculation about an impending release, but months went by with no album.

HipHopDX spoke to Nas in August 2016 and asked if “Nas Album Done” was a preview of the LP’s sound. The veteran MC kept his cards close to the vest and instead focused on his bond with DJ Khaled.

“I can’t say that because everything is its own thing,” he told DX. “I just got a lot of love for Khaled and that’s the moves we make. That’s what it is. I love working with that dude.”

A summer release date for Nas’ album would certainly make sense considering he already has a 17-city tour lined up with Lauryn Hill that kicks off in September.

    1. One of the GOATS. Production will be crucial to this album. Nothing else needs to be questioned. The beats will make or break this album.

        1. You sound stupid.. Ross production? How was the production on Life is Good? Great. Hip Hop is Dead? Amazing. So what are y’all talking about. And Ross production isn’t ground breaking or amazing. It’s just ok and sometimes great. Sometimes lol fools.

      1. He needs that ross production. I’m not a ross fan, but his beat selection and production are clutch. Nas narrating over those scores could be legendary.

      2. Nas doesn’t need to be a mainstream or have a crossover hit. Just make good music for Hip Hop heads. Let Jay Z pretend to be a 17 year old drug and make all the club bangers with Justin Timberlake, Cold Play, Beyonce and Linkin Park.

    2. Simpnas anova wite boi favorite. Dude ain’t even al dat doe. FUCC any wite boi wit a “topp fi5ve” dat got simpnas an feminem in it. Y’all fuccin cancer ta rap an da real dudes who bump real chit doe. 90’s WEST CIZZOAST fa lizzife doe! Dude prolly got nikki name tatted all on hisself succa tricc. Real spit doe.

    3. Nas will still be broke after this album. He has to pay the promoters, the producers, his A&R, Def Jam, and his video directors for music videos. And then whatever is leftover goes directly into Kelis’ pockets. That’s a major L. Whenever King HOV releases an album, he earns most of it back since he owns the masters. He’ll just have to pay the producers but that’s it. Now, THAT’s a major key. Nas’ new album will be called “BrokeMatic”. Ask Russell Simmons why Nas doesn’t own the masters to his music.

      1. Hahahaha spending everyday in the comment section hating on a man that doesn’t even know you exist. That’s a major L right there. Hold that L boy.. hahahaha keep hating in the goat.

      2. Maybe you should ask Russell Simmons why Jay Z still doesn’t own all his masters? Reasonable doubt, doesn’t own those. FACTS.

      3. There will come a day when you become tired of trolling here. I assure you. Noone has this much time on their hands.

      4. “Nas net worth: Nasir Bin Olu Daren Jones (better known as “Nas”) is an American rapper, actor and entrepreneur who has a net worth of $50 million.” What’s in your wallet?

      1. C’mon… At least he has released an album. Life is Good was what 5 years ago? He’s not one of these young dudes that has a new thing out every six months.

    4. Not to mention all the beats on this album will suck donkey dick, unless the rumors about Rick Ross executive producing the album are true. That’ll be the only good thing about it. Ask Russell Simmons why all of Nas’ albums have dogshit beats.

      1. Can’t be any worst then the last 10 years of Jay Z albums. Unless, you’re really into Justin Timberlake pop beats.

    5. His last three albums have ranged from very good to excellent. The real question isn’t if it will be good or not, he has had the recent quality issues, well last 10 years of output, of Jay Z. The question is if it will be a mainstream crossover hit or not

    6. Hold the Swizz joint this time please, son. We don’t need that shit, nor will that type of record gain any traction in the streets or radio.

      1. I don’t know. That Bath Salt preview was hot. That’s a Swizz joint. Jay, Nas, Kiss, and DMX. Heater for the streets.

    7. Lol, Fuck Queensbridge stays hating on Nas. In all honesty, I anticipate a new Nas album more than a new Jay album nowadays. He’s been disappointing me constantly after the Black Album. Minus American Gangster, I’m cool with that one.

      1. Well if it’s on the internet it must be true.

Funny how broke dudes go online to talk about another man’s money.

      1. Who the fuck cares how old that news is? IT HAPPENED. And now you Nas stans gotta live with that forever, just like Bill Clinton has to live with the oral sex scandal story for the rest of his life.

    8. “Fuck Queensbride” you sound stupid. Nas is no longer under Def Jam he has his own label you dumb fuck. Google. Why do people continue to compare him to Jay Z like yeah we get it Jay has been more commercially successful. But really that’s like comparing McDonalds to Ruth Chris. I’m pretty sure McDonalds makes more money than the latter but does that really mean they have a better quality of food? But there fries are the fucking bomb! And um… them apple pies yo.

    9. Come on Nas we been waiting long enough! Kendrick dropped a good album but we need that raw uncut. No saalaam remi no swizz and no more of that random lyric rushed flow you’ve been using.
