Missy Elliott took to Instagram on Tuesday (January 16) on what would’ve been Aaliyah’s 39th birthday to share four photos commemorating their friendship. The post came with a lengthy caption that expressed how much the late R&B singer is missed.
“Aaliyah so many people LOVE your Style & Music TIL this day!” Elliott wrote. “I wish they all got a chance to meet you to see how CARING you were to EVERYONE you met! I CAN STILL HEAR YOU LAUGH & us cracking up all the time & me you @Timbaland joking.
“we MISS YOU so much!” she continued. “but I know you are surrounded by ANGELS and yall dancing doing a Dope routine a sick 8 count for your BDAY. WE LOVE U from The Supa friends! and YOUR FANS! Prayers for mama DIANE & your bro RASHAD.”
Aaliyah died in a plane crash en route to Florida on August 25, 2001 after filming the video for “Rock The Boat” in the Bahamas at the age of 22. She was at the height of her career and had already released three studio albums, including her 1994 debut, Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number, and 1996’s One In A Million.

Elliott and producer Timbaland worked on the aforementioned One In A Million, which went on to sell over eight million copies worldwide.
Fellow artists and collaborators such as Timbo, Usher and Sean “Diddy” Combs also took to Twitter to pay their respects.

I hear Missy Elliot is a fat lupus d y k e. Also a talentless hasbeen.
Yeah you’re wrong there, fucko
Not lupus but Graves’ disease. Something to do with her thyroid not functioning properly. So only thing he got wrong was the disease. 2/3 correct is not too bad if you think about it.
Sorry i meant 3/4 because she is a talentless has been. Hasn’t had a hit in like 15 years or so.
You gotta have had a hit in the last 15 years to avoid being a talentless has been? Bad luck for the Beatles, great news for Lil’ Pump, I guess.
I also heard that you were a piece of shit. “Correct me if I’m wrong”
