Ever since its breakout moment several years back with the Drake-assisted “Versace” remix, Migos has managed to make a mark on pop culture over and over again.
From giving the world “the dab” to making “pipe up” everyday language for many and promoting potato chips, Quavo, Offset and Takeoff burst into 2017 with their biggest hit yet, “Bad and Boujee” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. Let’s not forget a certain co-sign from Donald Glover during this year’s Golden Globe Awards, which led to a significant spike in streams.
Speaking with The Fader, Migos had this to say about their impact on culture and the meaning behind their upcoming sophomore album, Culture.
“The new album title is about the culture of Hip Hop music,” said Offset. “It’s time to let the culture be known. It’s time to claim it. And it’s time to claim that we are the Migos, and for people to understand that this is what we did. We did a lot for music. Migos is the culture. Seriously. There are artists that are way bigger than us that get recognition off our flow.”
During the conversation, Quavo also spoke on the creative process of Culture.
“I want people to know that we great artists and that we’re funny guys,” Quavo said. “We’re multi-talented. We’re very creative. We got long vision. We can make all types of music, all genres. We can dress. We record ourselves. We engineer ourselves. We mixed and mastered the whole C U L T U R E album ourselves.”
Culture is slated to drop Friday (January 27) through Quality Control and 300 Entertainment.
Impact on CULTURE?? I’ve heard of fake news and now I’ve seen it! Whatever culture that is, I’m glad I’m not a part of it…
Mentioning these idiots and culture in the same sentence is fucking laughable!
Anybody else get the urge to throatfuck quavo?
i told dat bich versaci?
“There are artists that are way bigger than us that get recognition off our flow.” migos stupid as hell loll!! they got their flow from bone
Alex I can see where you think that and you may be right because Bone was more popular than Three 6 Mafia. That type of flow and cadence was started by Lord Infamous who was DJ Pauls brother. That was around 89-90. I understand how you see it that way but do your research and you will find out. One
“Very creative” pffft yeah indeed. That’s evident from the chorus of the songs Versace and Hannah Montana and the subject matter of bad and boujee. Smh. Mentioning these clowns and culture in the same sentence should be banned.
