Meek Mill has revealed plans to release his own weed strain, despite previously saying he has issues with the drug.

Posting on Instagram on Thursday (January 4), the Philadelphia rapper wrote underneath a photo of him at what appeared to be a cannabis dispensary: “Of course I’m starting a weed strand to go along with the new album!”

His plan contradicts previous comments Meek has made about weed, including that smoking it negatively affects his mental health.

In a confessional tweet in 2022, he wrote: “I smoke weed everyday and get depressed as soon as I get high … I be happy as hell sober lol it just helps me think deeper and more realistic lol.”

After Snoop Dogg said he was going to stop smoking weed last year (which turned out to be a marketing stunt), Meek vowed to follow suit.

“Ima go to Dubai and completely stop smoking,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “ima follow snoop, my doctor said I got a lil bit emphysema in a chest if I don’t stop smoking it cuts my lifeline in half.

“I was addicted to the nicotine and this new weed got too many chemicals and too risky to play with my mental!”

The Dream Chasers founder has also suffered with drug addiction in the past and has discussed his previous habit of taking Percocet daily.

He also called himself a “junkie” and added: “I ain’t never seen a millionaire, bossed-up pill popper in my life.”

Meek has since managed to kick some of his unhealthy habits and recently brought in the New Year by offering some advice to young people.

On X, he wrote: “Being gangsta will get you hurt put in jail or killed …… being smart will get you out of poverty and your family and friends living better. It’s no comparison, being smart is the only solid way out the trenches… everything else is wide range life risk just to survive!”

As for his new album, details remain scarce, but Meek recently fueled excitement for the project by declaring its opening song will “top” his classic 2012 anthem “Dreams & Nightmares (Intro).”

The upcoming album will serve as the follow-up to November’s Too Good To Be True, a full-length collaboration with his longtime collaborator and MMG label boss Rick Ross.
