Mac Miller Says He Ignored Major Label Offers

Fresh off of an impressive number one independent debut – the first since Tha Dogg Pound did it in 1995 – Mac Miller is reveling in his decision to keep it indie.

“It’s crazy. I’ve been trying to take it all in,” said Miller in an interview with MTV. “I’ve just been in constant motion, so I haven’t gotten a chance to really stop and realize how crazy this is that we got the first #1 in 16 years. It’s nuts, man.”

“I never really got far enough to see an offer for real,” said Mac, clarifying his stance on majors. “I got no hatred towards major labels or anything. I never got a chance to hear what they had to say. We just really wanted to stick with our home team and keep it in the family.”

Mac Miller’s Blue Slide Park moved an impressive 144,000 units in its first week.

“The fact that I got a #1 album on my first try independently is just something that no one could ever take away from me,” he added.

    1. Saw what you want about his music, but he is someone with a plan and it has so far worked. Every popular music started out independent, and we all know hip-hop became what it has become due to the efforts of the major label system. However, someone is able to work with an indie label or put it out themselves and get on the chart, if chart success is what you seek. But anyone can make music and be heard, there’s no limitations or restrictions. Make the effort, and your efforts will be heard, simple as that. Who’s the Mac? Mr. Miller.

    2. The only reason his album is #1 is because major labels were sucking his dick so hard hoping he’d sign with them. Without major label SUPPORT, regardless of if he signed with them or not, Miller would have sold half as much as he did, if that.

His musics shitty too, but thats beside the point.

      1. Jamel the look on your face is a look of surprise when Mac Miller whips his wang out and is ready to cum on your face…and you like it. oh yes, you like it a lot. infact, you look almost identical to the kid himself

    3. Folks, if you have to preface everything you say about this kid with “say what you will about his music”, you don’t really need to say anything else.

      1. Truth. When ever I see people covering for wack Miller, Its the usual “say what you will about”. People need get of his dick and get a life.

    4. never used to check for Mac, but BSP is hot. the nigga can spit. And after listening to that Take Care bull i needed to hear and actual RAP album

      1. man busta go that 90’s money what yall talking about while MM just started geting money

if it was roc nation you dudes would be jumpin up down dont front its all about the label

    5. Below average white rapper with a good machine behind him gets a #1 album and now he is the second coming? If he was black he wouldn’t even got this far, quite simply, he is wack. His advantages is his skin color, the fact that his target audience comprises roughly 80% of the U.S. population (lesser when you factor in the fact that they are predominately white males in their teens, but hey, they still outnumber every other group in that age bracket by like 6 to 1)and it is easier to market a white rapper to a white audience than it is a black rapper to a white audience (Elvis Presley anyone?). Dude is no Yelowolf and no Eminem, he is a bum. Shit pisses me off, just like soulja boy selling records, this guy is wack. Not going to get an ounce of support from me. White disagreement with my statements are understandable and expected, however, if you disagree and you’re black either you’re a stereotypical product of the historical ramifications of being an oppressed minority, i.e. ignorant, disadvantaged, broken-family, uneducated, self-hating and plain stupid or you’re just an Uncle Tom. I’m out.

      1. Being white helps, but making sugar coated vagina anthems is what sells these days. Drake is black and though he’s got more skill than this homo he basically makes the same music – for faggots.

      2. “if he was black he wouldn’t even got this far” I’ll guess we’ll never know. And what do you mean it’s easier to market white to black then black to white? Stop trying to make this a race issue. I’m black and find his music fun and laidback. Rap doesn’t always have to be so serious.I’m black too and i’m not in the two categories that you made. So stop trying to take credit from him. The dude’s enjoying his job. That’s what we all want.

      3. you have to realize tho that he made that so called “machine” behind him. This dude worked his ass off to get where he is, you dont gotta like his music but at least respect the hustle.

“If he was black he wouldnt of got this far”?????? hmmmm lets see Mac is a rapper from pittsburgh that raps mostly about weed and swag in a laid back style with some occasional pop-ish hooks. sound like anyone else you know? DUH WIZ KHALIFA!!!!!! AND GUESS WHAT HE IS BLACK JUST AS SUCCESFUL AND JUST AS MEDIOCRE OF A RAPPER AS MAC.
this is 2011, it aint about race

    6. His label, Rostrum, is distributed by INgrooves via Fontana Distribution, which is part of Universal Music Group. He’s indie on a technicality.

      1. thats just distribution. there is no indie on the planet that doesnt get distribution through a major.
iTunes doesn’t even accept indie music, you have to go through a larger corporation like tunecore to get on it.

    7. I dont listen to him I dont think hes real dope but he did his thing.I havent listened to his album so Im not gonna comment on that but when I do I think it wont get past the 3rd track for me.

    8. this will be good for hip hop i hope it will be good for people independently making music that the want to make

    9. this will be good for hip hop i hope it will be good for people independently making music that want to make real music and not sell out to the radio like jcole did
